Ratings For Couric Iraq Trip Tie For Record Low

AP:

If some people thought traveling to Iraq and Syria was a ratings stunt for Katie Couric, it didn't work out that way.

The "CBS Evening News" tied a record low with just under 5.5 million viewers last week, Nielsen Media Research said Tuesday. Last week and Memorial Day week are the two least-watched CBS evening newscasts since at least 1987, and probably far earlier.

CBS said it wasn't surprising, and argued that last week's numbers were artificially deflated because of U.S. Open coverage.

My money is on Katie to break that record.

I guess I am the lone hold-out as someone who see's her as a talented journalist. I much, much prefer her to Diane Sawyer or Barbara Walters, she doesn't hedge the way those two do. She asks what she wants to ask, and she knows how to get the answer to her question. Some of the comments on here sound as though they were written in blood, with an ax in hand. I wonder why.....

Every attempt to bolster Couric's ratings failed. Every attempt is like the straw that broke the camel's back.

CBS is like Dubya, neither will admit they are wrong.

["How about Keith Olbermann???!!!"]

Or how about Olberman & O'Reilly.

Keith: "Good night Bill".

Bill: "Turn off his mike. Turn off his @#$%ing mike, right now."

Please! Another "Hannity and Colmes"?

Gimmicks won't cut it! It's not about gimmicks and cute tricks. It's about substance, and Katie doesn't have that. Period! When they put the "News" into the "Entertainment Division," they destroyed it! How about putting it back where it belongs, and giving it back to a leader who values it, and a journalist who can do it like it's supposed to be done! They need another Walter Cronkite. How about Keith Olbermann???!!!

1-2-3 Is this thing working?

maybe is she showed her crotch... she could sit on a high stool and cross her legs just before going to commercial. That would certainly help the ratings and the advertisers would love it too... no, wait, all the sponsors are for incontinence, skin rashes, old age symptoms.. never mind, might cause too many heart attacks among the geezers who comprise CBS's audience.
Still,......

They should of had a split screen showing
Couric in the "Peter Pan" suit and wire
she donned for her Halloween bits when she
was on the TODAY Show. She literally wore
a wire in that "costume" and flew over -
Rockefeller Center. Couric is a joke and she
should be hawking junk jewelry on a home
shopping network channel.

I'd rather see the news read by Lenny and Squiggy than the "Chipmunk" Couric.

How about Christiane Amanpour?

Oh ya that's right, she's a real journalist.

jeez... leave the woman alone. So many more important things to bitch about.
09:05 PM on 09/11/2007
How can this be? With a journalism degree she cannot fail. What? She has no journalism degree....Bye-bye.

She is just another Bush ass kisser. I give her one year.

The problem is not Ms. Couric. The problem is that war is not a human interest story, it is the failure of civilization. I know, I was in Vietnam. My father and two of my uncles were in WWII. My Grandfather was in WWI. My great-great Grandfather was in the Civil War. When will it end?

When we destroy all the statues and burn all the medals.

There is no glory in war.

Katie Couric is to serious news as Brittany Spears is to big comeback performances.

Somebody pull the plug already.
08:11 PM on 09/11/2007
So nobody is watching Katie because everyone is watching that Swiss guy Federer???

Maybe they should apologize to Dan Rather for making a big deal out of nothing and bring him back.

If she was ever going to prove herself, this was the

time and she FAILED!

CBS loses and will continue to lose as long as she

is their anchor.
