Expressing deep doubts and mounting frustration, senators of both parties pressed Gen. David H. Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan C. Crocker on Capitol Hill today with pointed questions about progress in the war in Iraq and the prospects for political stability and troop withdrawals.

Mr. Crocker refused to be pinned down in the face of harsh questioning on when large-scale American involvement in Iraq might come to an end, but he signaled that it would not be soon. And General Petraeus, the top military commander in Iraq, offered a rare display of annoyance with the senators' skeptical questioning, telling the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, "I'm as frustrated about this as everyone else."

Harry Reid, speak softly, and carry a wet noodle.

Son of Bicker is a cartoon. Is it worth arguing with something that's only two-dimensional? Everyone knows this is the Commander in Chief's war - and the party-before-country Republicans who fawn over him.

That's why their asses were kicked up and down the block in the last election cycle ...

... but still their denial prevails.

Interesting how Bush now says that 30,000 soldiers will be leaving Iraq next summer. You can bet it has been calculated to happen JUST before the Republican Convention. Did anyone see William Kristol on The Daily Show recently? He was so excited talking about how "We are going into this area of Iraq, and We are going into that area of Iraq, and We are winning in that area of Iraq, etc. It was as if he was very involved in conducting the war. I swear that this guy has to be part and parcel of all of the calculated planning that the administration has for the future to advance whatever it is they want. Of course it was no coincidence that the Patreus hearings in front of the Senate happened on 9-11. Are they not just the worst Rat Bastards?

Remember the series called "Connections" during the late 70s with James Burke? He talked about how everything has been connected to something else to increase innovations all throughout history. His question at the end is what if the entire world which is connected so dependently in modern times, just collapses? The bottom line, is for everybody to have a plough if you want to survive. I continue to think about this with peak oil and the domination of the world's remaining oil by the cartels. The world will see a level playing field economically, that's for sure. Maybe a windmill would be good too. And a clothesline. Our country has hit it's peak too, it would appear.

MASTERS OF WAR

Come you masters of war
You that build all the guns
You that build the death planes
You that build the big bombs
You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks

You that never done nothin'
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it's your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
When the fast bullets fly

Like Judas of old
You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
That runs down my drain

You fasten the triggers
For the others to fire
Then you set back and watch
When the death count gets higher
You hide in your mansion
As young people's blood
Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud

You've thrown the worst fear
That can ever be hurled
Fear to bring children
Into the world
For threatening my baby
Unborn and unnamed
You ain't worth the blood
That runs in your veins

How much do I know
To talk out of turn
You might say that I'm young
You might say I'm unlearned
But there's one thing I know
Though I'm younger than you
Even Jesus would never
Forgive what you do

Let me ask you one question
Is your money that good
Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul

And I hope that you die
And your death'll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand o'er your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead

This pretty much states it much better than I ever could.
I think of it whenever I start getting too involved in trying to reason with these insane neo-cons.
Written 44 years ago as a reflection on Ike's warnings on the Military Industrial Complex that he could foresee if we weren't careful. (His farewell address is amazing.Prophetic.)

It's telling that the kind of war Dubya has chosen for us to fight is the only kind of war Americas' military can lose. The U.S. would win any war against any enemy in a conventional (non-nuclear) war. The only war we can lose is a protracted peoples's war exactly like the one in Iraq. Dubya and his Neo-cons are exactly what America didn't need at the end of the Cold War.

Asking our military to accomplish what cannot be accomplished militarily is ant-military.

Republicans have shown over and over and over again that they don't give a shit about the military. Republicans don't give a shit about how many of our soldiers get killed.

All that Bush and Cheney care about is oil for US corporations.

All that the rest of Republicans do is blindly support their depraved leaders so they can hold on to power.

That's what the modern Republican Party and the Right Wing of America has become. They are left with no ideals, no morality, no conscience - just blind support for their corrupt leaders.

"Support the Troops" means "Support Bush".

"God Bless America" means "God Save Bush's Ass"

Who is more anti-military?

Republicans who sent our military to somehow win an un-winnable "war" for the benefit of US oil corporations?

Or, is it the anti-war Liberals who want to stop unnecessary death of our soldiers, and bring them home?

Who is more anti-military?

What are these Republicans, idiots or depraved to the core?

It's bizzaro world Hume. Those who cry out for peace should be imprisoned. Those who fight for the end of senseless bloodshed for our troops are anti-military.

Enter, the twilight zone.

Exactly...Twilight Zone.

I wonder what it would be like to see their "Fantasy America". Something tells me hypocrisy is the "matter" that holds it together, and it would be alot like Fahrenheit 451.....

but without the humor.

I can't say I've read all 1,298 posts here (and counting) but I must comment that after the first day's depressing administration dog-and-pony show the congress really appeared to do a half-decent job of asking the right questions and ferreting-out the flaws in the argument. I've got to admit I was expecting worse from them. The one glaring exception was John "too old for the White House" McCain. And even he had his utility in showing to America how utterly grotesque the lunatic pro-war lobby is.

Some of the most heroic people of 9-11 were the flight attendants on the planes flown into the TTs.

And I have no doubt they'd be proud as punch of Mr. Bush and Mr. Cheney. Those two brave men hunkered down in their steel fortified bunkers that day and dared the evildoers to come get them.

Rumor has it, they even double and triple-dared 'em.

Yes. Bush explained in an interview afterward that is first reaction was "to get out of harm's way."

If he had said in his campaign that, if we were attacked, his first reaction would be to run and hide, I would surely have voted for him then! Such courage! Such valor!

And then he sent OTHER people into a bloody quagmire and do his dirty work.

Such a brave, valours, noble man!

Not a republican or a muslim. Just an entrepreneur. I could crank those things out lickitysplit. And think of all the energy and c02 we could save by not having to come out with a new line every year or having runway shows in Milan, Paris and New York.

I can see it now, for all the crazed hufftard harpys out there who think resistence to militant islam is futile and hopeless and are ready to submit themselves and their families to being brutalized, check out our new fall line of taliban approved burkas. One size - big, one color - black. I think I could be the new Henry Ford.

So your with me?
