People:

Before her now-notorious performance at Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards in Las Vegas, Britney Spears had a spat with celebrity hairstylist Ken Paves, PEOPLE reports in its latest issue, on newsstands Friday.

Weeks before the awards show, "Britney had requested his two female assistants [to do her extensions] since she prefers women around her," and was disappointed when Paves himself arrived, says a Spears source. The stylist soon left, taking his hair with him.

sadly, I call her performance a major success.
it is the most-talked about event of the week.
she has managed to get her name and image in every blog, paper and news outlet.
ANY publicity is good publicity in crazy town H'wood.

I thank Britney for her bad performance--she's made Chris Crocker and his YouTube defense of her into a viral, verfied Internet Sensation.

People actually think this is relevant and important.

The only thing relevant is that I finally want Britney Spears. Her insanity is so hot.

Keep them busy with gossip and they will continue to support your warmongering. American capitalism at is best.

the sanitized war and the media goes along for the ride. Good for corporate profits.

Her 15 minutes are OVER...can't we get someone onstage anymore that can like, play REAL music, not electronically enhanced, but, I don't know, violin or bagpipe or something? You know, Real Talent? How about someone that can ROCK on Tocatta and Fugue in D Minor? Ah, but the Yngve Malmsteens have been replaced by bubble-gum back-beats, and Intel Xeon processed-bullcrap.
Nice to know though, that in place of Britney,
you can still go and buy yourself a 15-dollar harmonica and learn to play it...maybe not as entertaining as looking up her dress, but that was getting old anyway...I know, instead of another bubble-gum CD, go buy a book, instead...

what is shocking is that so many people here have stated that this girl has "talent". i have to laugh. she can't sing worth shit, her dance moves are the same crap janet jackson was doing 20 years ago. she can't sing live. she failed at acting. where has she ever displayed one iota of talent?

she was packaged as the jail bait/lolita who would look coyly at the camera and pout. sure she's cute. so are millions of other girls. big deal. tennyboppers bought her c.d.'s and made her rich. good for her.

she should get sober, retire and raise her kids. at he rate she's going she'll be dead before she hits 30.

I disagree, Truss. The Britney story is extremely interesting from all kinds of perspectives. Here we have an ordinarily pretty little girl with a minimal singing voice and the ability to perform jazzercise routines after much rehearsal. Her mom (who no doubt really loves her) decides she should be a star. She gets a tv gig as a child and lives out her adolescence dutifully exploiting her sexuality while mouthing Christian platitudes. She works relentlessly to keep her young body toned and attractive. She has practically no education and not much native intelligence. Ultimately and years too late and with way too much money, she rebels. She wants a normal life, she wants to eat a chili cheeseburger, she wants to get laid and go a little wild with the girls so she goes to Vegas and marries a kid from home. Mom and the managers go nuts, try to reassert control and, of course, Britney ups the ante. She picks up with an older, smarter, con artist who gets her pregnant with her enthusiastic consent. The poor child's limited view of happy and normal is a couple of kids after all, and who expects a pregnant girl to do sit-ups? It all goes to hell from there until she has eliminated anyone with any ability to say no or exert control from her life. Then we have the train wreck we see before us. If this child had been allowed to fulfill her normal destiny: minor pagaent appearances, flunks out of a state university, marries a nice boy who will inherit the family Western Auto store, has a couple of kids yada yada yada, how much better for her and the rest of us. Don't put you daughter on the stage, Mrs. Worthington (great old song which should be mandatory for every mother of a child star except Jodie Foster's).

oldschooldemcrat,

There are millions of people who could not perform like Britney can when she's on. I am an unashamed fan and her music is on my ipod not because its bad but because its good. Her music is lightweight but there is nothing wrong with that. And I give the girl her due, normally she can really dance. Check out her videos and even previous MTV performances, that's why they wanted her on their show.

Actually despite the outfit and the bad extensions, looking at the various pictures, I still think she looked great. Sure it was a bad performance but it happens, just perhaps not in front of millions of people.

Brit is depressed right now, and she doesn't know who to trust, and I agree that her con artist ex-husband is trying to get the children before his alimony runs out in November. I hope the judge can see through this and give Brit some peace of mine and her kids.

Well, you ought to be ashamed, because you are stupid and a poor judge of talent. Go read Tiger Beat, and leave us adults alone.
