The Associated Press reports on the online mashup sponsored by Yahoo!, Slate Magazine and the Huffington Post....

Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton on Wednesday dismissed criticism from her chief rivals over her acceptance of campaign contributions from lobbyists, calling their concerns "a little inauthentic" since they accept money from lobbyists' employers and relatives.

In an interview for an online candidates' forum sponsored by Yahoo!, Slate Magazine and the Huffington Post, Clinton also announced she would release her plan to offer universal health coverage next Monday.

"I hope the headline will read, 'Hillary is back and we're going to get it done this time,'" she said.

All eight Democratic contenders participated in the so-called online "mashup," including Clinton, Barack Obama, John Edwards, Bill Richardson, Chris Dodd, Joe Biden, and Mike Gravel.

They took questions from moderator Charlie Rose on education, health care and the Iraq War, many of which were submitted from readers online. Comedian Bill Maher also made a surprise appearance, offering "wild card" questions on issues such as whether marijuana should be legalized.

It is not Bill Maher's fault that only Kucinich answered his question. Hillary really sidestepped him.

I honestly did not like any of these answers nor do I see this being any different from the regular debates. Even Mahers questions were turned into political rhetoric.

You seem to be very proud of your format while operating just like the mainstream media. You ask questions with no follow up thus allowing the candidates to spew forth the same old talking points. Why didn't Bill ask Hillary what was so funny? Why was Edwards allowed to pontificate on oil and not address the actual question? If internet media is just going to spoon up the same old crap with most of the same pundits it will become irrelevant.

DENNIS KUCINICH!!!!! I include my voice amongst a few others here that SHOUT OUT: WHERE THE HELL IS KUCINICH? Come on MOVIN' ON and HUFFINGTONPOST ... Give the fair journalism you ask for and at least equal coverage to an above average candidate who works damn hard for this country. Check out his voting records and initiatives. This man works!!!!

As a Democrat (sort of--things have been a little shaky lately, with them scrambling to prove themselves to be Republican Jr.), I'm just sitting here thrilled to my toes that we came up with yet another cutesy name for an event like this, thereby reinforcing the Republican-fed image of the Democrats as a bunch of freaks and silly people who couldn't possibly be trusted to lead the nation in a time of crisis. That's just what we need--give the public one more reason, superficial as it may be, to think of us as the little brother and sister who might be able to watch the house for five minutes while Dad goes down to the 7-11 to get gas, but you're sure not gonna want them to run things for good.

Substantively, it looks like a good event, and I love Maher's question to Hillary about why anybody should vote for someone who was suckered by somebody like Bush.

But why the hell do we have to do this lame cutesy thing? Could we not have named the event something that was at least vaguely adult?

What does Dennis Kucinich have to do to get some media coverage? First his picture is cropped from the ABC-TV debate 'group photo'. Now his name is left out of the list of participating candidates in the intro to this report.

Kucinich IS and HAS BEEN the only member of Congress to oppose this Iraq War from the git-go...the only candidate who has consistently voted against funding increases that have prolonged--and continue to prolong--this misadventure. Does he get NO CREDIT for his principled opposition and perspicacity? ..Not even a mention?

Kucinich deserves to have his voice heard. His name only comes up when surrounded by terms like "fringe", "Long shot", "diminutive", and "elf-like". What the hell is going on here?! His record deserves to be at least acknowledged...and his proposals considered. Are integrity and good judgment no longer counted as qualifications for public office?

I should think that his refusal to accept contributions from the Big Money lobbyists [Big Pharma, the Insurance Industry, the Corporatists who run rampant through the halls of Congress] would not automatically exclude him from the ranks of "serious" top-tier candidates who are covered for their haircuts or their cleavage. Given the mood of the American people (anti-war, anti-corruption, anti-corporate, pro-labor, pro-equal rights, etc.) Kucinich should be the obvious choice for nomination AND election.....IF people were made aware that they actually HAVE a choice in these so-called "exercises in democracy".

Sheesh!!!!

Kucinich's wife dressed as Carmen Miranda at the Hispanic debate and that got him on the Daily show. Carmen Miranda was not Hispanic, she was Brazilian.

September 15 Anti-War Protest to Be 'Unlike Any Other'
By Nathan Burchfiel
CNSNews.com Staff Writer
September 13, 2007

CNSNews.comm) - Organizers of an anti-war protest scheduled for Sept. 15 said Wednesday that the demonstration will be "unlike any other" as activists gather to demand an immediate end to the war.

Cindy Sheehan -- the Gold Star mother whose son, Army Spec. Casey Sheehan, was killed in Iraq -- has come out of anti-war movement "retirement" to participate in the protest.

You have a problem with citizens right to protest? I guess you would like to see Marshall Law also, right Himler?

It's martial law. I don't see the poster having a problem with the demonstration.

Must be in your mind.

It is very clear to me that since 9/11 and perhaps before then, Bush/Cheney and gang had planned all along for the invasion of Iraq and used 9/11 as a "reason" to invade. These people are not idiots, well besides Bush that is, they knew that a majority of Americans are not very intelligent and would not ask the tough questions. They would use the "fight them over there" and Sadam was working with Osama etc.
The bottom line is that the surges are only intended to allow this war to drag on until Bush is out of office. He has intended from day one to dump this war on the Democrat that will be elected next year. He knows that once the Democrat starts pulling out substantial numbers of troops, and the war escalates, the stupid majority of Americans will blame the Democrats for the mess that Bush left. These candidates know this and I hope that they do all they can to make everyone aware that this will not be accepted once they become President.

I honestly believe that the Left in this country is digging its grave deeper and deeper everyday. I don't know when, but their despicable actions and words over the last 6 years will haunt them for years to come.

Back to the subject at hand.

Newt Gingrich and Mario Cuomo have been staging a number of debates this summer exactly in the format that real debates used to be conducted.

They take a topic and challenge each other to defend their side. It's a back and forth, with the moderator there only to keep them on subject, not ask stupid questions.

We should demand more "Lincoln-Douglas" type debates.

Newt is a dead letter. Newt never had a good idea.
The one about hunting Giraffes was funny, but not a good idea. I would love to see Newt, Mario and Cheney go hunting and see who got shot.

It has already been shown that the ONLY candidate of either party who has not been bought by Corporatist (Fascist) powers is DENNIS KUCINICH!

Support for anyone else is support for more of the same in a headlong lemming rush to trash what was once the United States.

Americans, generally speaking, continue to rely on the MSM and its stenographically accurate dispersal of Fascist propaganda. They wallow in what amounts to a lot of writing on restroom walls.

the left in this country will do to itself what the right wing never could.

the left is its own worst enemy.

the right is right about a lot of things about the left.

a lack of courage.

the inability to see a larger goal.

concepts of right and wrong have no place in the political arena.

at this point, i don't even see the point of participation or giving a shit about it anymore.

people like kucinich have no chance not because of the right wing, but because of their own "supporters."

screw the whole process. it's a waste of time, effort and energy anyway.

you can go fuck yourself in all ways possible, furryass.

i am through with being nice to you.

i tried i really did.

but you know what?

people like you deserve to suffer for your stupidity.

it's the rest of us that don't.

you take pride in being an ignorant, venal, malevolant dickhead, and think it's your right to be that way.

well, it isn't. it's not anybody's right to be that way.

so kiss my ass and go fuck yourself in the middle of the biggest highway you can find.

and take some of your narrow, petty, constipated, self-righteous, short-sighted friends from both sides with you.

the larger picture is really very simple.

the neocons must be removed from power as quickly as possible.

the ONLY way this will happen is if the left shows some unity. they can't even unite behind that goal, how on god's earth can they be expected to end a war?

they are just as guilty as the right when it comes to putting themselves, their egos and their intolerance first above the common good.

and just like people who think that state mandated religion is a good idea, unless of course it's something other than THEIR brand of state mandated religion, they alienate the very kinds of people who would be most sympathetic to their goals.

in fact, if there is anything at all that could persuade me to vote for a republican, it's some of those who call themselves democrats.

those who will not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

In Tijuana, Mexico, across the border from San Diego, Elvira Arellano spoke about her son to several dozen demonstrators. Saul was scheduled to join her there Thursday.

"He is a boy who has been suffering because the U.S. government told his mother she couldn't stay in their country anymore because she was undocumented," she said.

Hmm, okay. I was born here of two parents who were born here. Am I in violation of U.S. law?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:13 AM on 09/13/2007

I think "onesye" means that we took this territory from other people, told them to get lost, and quickly called it our own (America).

Then, we told the Indians if you want to stay here, here is a little parcel of land we don't want and you can have.

Is this in violation of US law? No.

Might we have a long lecture from our Maker when we die (since, thankfully, it was not our generation that actually did this)? Yes.

Oneseye is right. We are all "illegal" immigrants. Any Cherokee or Sioux will be happy to explain why.
