Portfolio Woes Continue

We really hate having to reset the number on our "It's Been 'X' Days Since We've Heard Dispiriting News About Portfolio" sign, but here we go again. From WWD:

Another staffer is leaving Joanne Lipman right before the latest Portfolio is ready to hit newsstands. Senior writer Katrina Brooker, who joined last year from Fortune, is returning to her old stomping grounds.

Fortune confirmed the move with WWD but did not elaborate "on when she will start or what her title will be." For what it's worth, Jossip intimates that Brooker has simply gone back to her old job. Both note that Brooker was apparently tight with ousted abuser-of-Conde-Nast-expense-accounts Jim Impoco.

We still remember when we heralded Portfolio's Conde Nastification of the business world as the paradigm-busting magazine event that was going to allow us to quit therapy forever. The folks at Fortune however, may be thinking that the clock is running out--WWD notes: "Brooker may not be the only Portfolio staffer who Fortune is trying to court back. Sources say Portfolio senior writer Daniel Roth also has been approached...to return."

WWD goes on to note that while Portfolio's third issue is said to be "almost as good as the second one," the fourth is shaping up to be "a train wreck." Sounds like there is still room for growth in the "yell at Portfolio" cottage industry Elizabeth Spiers has carved out for herself.
