Editor & Publisher:

The Op-Ed by seven active duty U.S. soldiers in Iraq questioning the war drew international attention just three weeks ago. Now two of the seven are dead.

Sgt. Omar Mora and Sgt. Yance Gray died Monday in a vehicle accident in western Baghdad, two of seven U.S. troops killed in the incident which was reported just as Gen. David Petraeus was about to report to Congress on progress in the "surge." The names have just been released.

Gen. Petraeus was questioned about the message of the op-ed in testimony before a Senate committee yesterday.

I wonder if this was by 'FRIENDLY FIRE'? Never determined who was the 'friend' who 'fired' the shot...

Especially puzzling: Yance Gray, was an Army veteran since he joined in 2000, had also served in Afghanistan, and re-enlisted for the second time just three months ago. He obviously had misgivings - why in heaven's name did he re-up?

Cheney and Halliburton paid him off silly.....Gray was also in Dallas in November of 1963...oops I wasn't supposed to let that out..now I am going to be rebuked by the Tri-Lateral Commission..forget I said anything ok pal?

Wow, if anyone saw Weeds last week it seems almost prescient. Not to mention Pat Tillman. I won't be surprised when we learn that the government killed those two soldiers.

This story should be on top of the HuffPo page, with that Ambassador Clown quote about Baghdad looking so good running right under it.

Looks like some of Hufftards work.

Over the weekend, something happened here at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington DC. Something destructive. Something dishonorable. Along the foot of the wall, covering a stretch almost two-thirds of the entire monument, an oily substance was spilled on the panels and paving stones that were built to pay tribute to those who gave their lives on the battlefield.

The National Park Service is investigating. Whatever the substance was, it was potent and corrosive. Huge swaths of the wall have been defaced. This is despicable desecration.

Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund Founder and President Jan C. Scruggs said “While it is unclear what transpired, we are heartened by the response of the veterans’ community and the general public. After 25 years, their connection to The Wall remains as strong as ever, and we appreciate that.”

This vandalism comes on the eve of a massive anti-war protest by radicals who have threatened our national monuments before

So you think that discredits the entire idea of Peace? During Vietnam there were some who spit on soldiers. Most of us would tell them they were assholes and ought to find a therapist. Many of the people I knew who were antiwar had gotten that way because of a lost brother or friend and wanted to protect the men who were at risk from a war they felt was wrong.

What a tragic punctuation mark to their eloquent statement.

The good die young.

"As committed soldiers, we will see this mission through."

Above is a line from these guys' Times article. In my opinion, the military is going to have trouble instilling this kind of blind obedience in female troops. Women are too practical. How dumb is it to bomb, poison, imprison, rape, torture, maim and massacre innocent people just so that Halliburton, et al. can make a profit?

Male troops feel warring is a good way to "prove their manhood." Women do not have that peculiar motive or anything resembling it.

There has been a media blitz in the USA to make it seem like having girls and women carry out men's wars of aggression is "normal," yet in reality it's still experimental. Men have been causing wars for thousands of years. Forcing females to prosecute them is something new.

I doubt it will work in the long run.

Perhaps you didn't know that women demanded and begged to go into combat!

09:15 PM on 09/12/2007
In a normal situation the odds of these seven getting killed is about 300,000 to 1(our troops plus mercenaries we have there, now make it three out of seven the odds go way up,throw in being part of NYT Op/Ed and the odds come way down...... maybe 1 to 7 odds is a bit more accurate. They were speaking truth to power,I hope they didn't die in vain.
