I really wish more people were intelligent enough to know truth when they hear it. If they were, the Democrats would be trying to decide between Gravel and Kucinich, while Paul would have the Republican nomination secured.

Charlie Rose is the PBS version of Tim Russert--a huge ego who loves to have "players" on his show then gives them hand jobs while they're there. When Rose gets someone like Gravel, he gets scared he might have to do journalism without hand lube, so takes Gravel to task, acting as a proxy for his adoring future guests.

I couldn't agree more with Gravel. We invaded Iraq on a fraudulent basis; how does continuing the charade help?

I think what Gravel meant, is that they've been saying the same crap for more than three years to allow them to continue the war. This video illustrates this point well:

Don't know about you and that cheerleader though. :)

Have you watched him on the Mash-up? I thought he gave the most logical down-to-earth answers. There was nothing nutcase about it.

Mike Gravel's one weakness is having faith in the American people.

Why do I think this is a weakness? because of people like BoBoBolinski.

Mike Gravel Rocks!
As a Senator he stood up to Nixon with a 5 Day filibuster and stopped the draft,
while also having the secret Pentagon Papers on the Vietnam War read into the Congressional Record. We need this man. He definitely knew Jack Kennedy.
Geez, what would it be like to have him as President, with Kuscinich(sp) VP
(or visa~versa)
or both of them in a Bloomberg Cabinet,
or all three of them in Obama's Cabinet
with Ron Paul as Attorney General?
Or at the very least hire Gravel to run Amtrak.

"As a Senator he stood up to Nixon with a 5 Day filibuster and stopped the draft, while also having the secret Pentagon Papers on the Vietnam War read into the Congressional Record."

Actually, it was 5 months, not 5 days. Nixon sued him all the way to the Supreme Court, but it caused so much publicity, Nixon gave up.

I love how instead of debating the facts, JamesR, you prefer to use unsubstantive one liners and name calling.

I'm not talking about who won or lost Vietnam...I'm talking about the millions of people massacred after our government withdrew due to the constant whining of the media...learn to read posts instead of glancing over them.

drblack, name ONE freedom that has been lost? There haven't been any lost freedoms, so stop using cliche liberal terms for things that haven't even taken place. You're also wrong about going into the Iraq in the first place. Seventeen UN resolutions calling for Saddam's compliance, countles UN sanctions, and 12 years of the UN sitting back and doing nothing to Saddam is more than enough reason to be suspiscious in itself...not counting all the weapons reports from most countries that had an Iraqi weapons report all saying that Saddam was knowingly developing WMDs. Whether he ever had them or not is up for debate, and i'll admit that, but one thing that is beyond debate is that he either was developing wmds, or he was trying to fool the world into thinking he was.

Sorry you lose.

Name one freedom lost? How about Habaeus Corpus. Or the right to a speedy trial? (Jose Padilla, American citizen)

Habeaus Corpus...are you kidding? please give me some serious isntances where this right has been declined, I honestly want to know because I can't think of any off the top of my head.

The right to a speedy trial sure would be nice...but how is it that BUSH has done anything to destroy that right?

Please I honestly want to know. I sure hope, though, that neither of those "stolen rights" have anything to do with Guantanamo.....

Americans should be concerned with our disappearing Freedom and prosperity.....anyone who reads KNEW there was no reason for war with Iraq and anyone who isn't a coward will NOT give up any Constitutional rights to fight the emotion which is terror or the tactic which is terrorism.

*continued*...

Let me ask you guys this...which party is BANKING on the U.S losing a war in order to secure an election? That alone speaks volumes of where the democratic party is headed. The fact that if the United States military does good, it decreases the chances of a democratic president is all too telling of what priorities the democratic party has. If the United States loses the war in Iraq, the democrats win a presidency...talk about ironic.

You think if you ignore the good you are being "honest and open"...when infact you are completely close minded about the FACT that not everything that this president has done has resulted in a mess. The Economy is BOOMING, sire it has had a few hiccups, but it is far stronger than it ever was during the Clinton years. The unemployment rate is about as low as it has ever been in the past 50 years. Sure some countries hate us...but so what? This isn't a Miss Universe pagent, this is about the security of the USA and it's allies. Whether you REPUBLICANS want to admit it or not...Canada, France, Germany, etc...ARE our allies. What we do we do for the benefit of all the world.

DocterDim,

This is reality for the Republicans:
http://nymag.com/news/imperialcity/37255/

The reality of Iraq is "the greatest military disaster in American history...."
which follows "the biggest strategic mistake in the history of the world."

Why? Because it means the beginning of the end for America as you have known it. 1) $9T debt owed largely to China and Japan, 2) Annual trade
deficits structurally built into our economy of $700B/yr, 3) Add on the cost of the war that is sending our deficit through the roof 4) An obese
lazy populace content to drive their SUVs and watch TV while 4% of the population fight their war that they don't care about.

Things that can't go on forever don't. Remember that.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 05:26 PM on 09/13/2007

The idea that Iraq is some crazy disaster is just more typical doom and gloom rhetoric from the left.

As for the deficit...yes, we do have a huge deficit, yes the Congress has been spending way too much...why exactly does that all fall on Mr.Bush? Sure he can veto stuff, but everytime a bill comes up that will cut pork barrel spending or allow for certain veto lines...the bill gets defeated. Do you really want Mr.Bush to veto everything that has excessive spending somewhere hidden in the back of the bill? For example...what if there is a bill that would increase the funding of alternate fuels, something we ALL (except oil companies) would want, but attached to that bill is a few hundred million dollars to help fund the building of a new fence along the Canadian-American border? There are times where vetoing an entire bill would do more harm than good.

Our deficit, by the way, has pretty much been cut in half in the 6 years that Mr.Bush has been in office, largely thanks to the tax cuts.

"which party is BANKING on the U.S losing a war in order to secure an election?"

Docterjay only sees politics. He doesn't see that war is an unacceptable method in a civilized world. For him it is ALL about winning. USA! USA! My country, right or wrong.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:10 PM on 09/13/2007

And you don't see that the world is not civilized...

Until crack-headed psycopaths like Saddam, Kim Jong Il, etc...stop breeding more people just like them, the world will never be fully civilized.

I, personally, would love to never have to go into another war ever again, but there are uncivilized people out there that can't be talked down...it's as simple as that.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:22 PM on 09/13/2007

And another thing...YOu leftin-wing whackos should be happy with Patreaus' report...he is suggesting that 5700 troops be withdrawn december, with a continual and steady withdraw throught 08. He is suggesting that we reduce the number of troops in Iraq...did you guys not pay attention to that? Or were you too busy foaming at the mouth from when he said that the Surge is having a positive effect?

You democrats are quite entertaining to be honest. I read through the comments in here and see post after post of people saying how much they love Gravel, and how he is who we need to be running things in the white house...all he does is bash this administration...he hasn't been saying why he needs to be elected so much as he's been busy trying to corner the current administration.

It's the whole "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" deal all over again. I thought we had learned our lesson when millions of civilians were massacred after the white house gave in to the media during Vietnam. If there is one thing we can learn from Vietnam is that simply pulling our presence out of a war-torn region, without first making the region safe, will only result in massive bloodshed and hatred from the country we were supposed to be protecting.

Why is it so hard for the democrats to just sit down and admit that maybe just MAYBE we might be able to win this war? Why is it that no matter how the people in Iraq are being killed it will always be the American's fault? Why is that? Do you honestly believe that the U.S military is running around shooting civilians for no good reason?

Why is it that now that it seems there is some good coming out of Iraq, instead of applauding our military and giving them the support they deserve, you simply discredit the good?

General Petreaus presented a bar chart showing how the USA would never totally leave Iraq. That is the plan.

The plan is and always was to get Iraqi oil. The USA has built bases that can be used to control and defend that oil. "Stay the course".

Are you for this?
I AM NOT!

We republicans are intollerant? We republicans are trying to silence any opposition to this administration? It's us republicans that are trying to fear the public into obedience?

It is YOU democrats that are speaking louder than ever, getting book deals, movie deals, fat under-the-table payments for your loud and constant babblings on about how evil this administration is. It is YOU democrats that are trying to silence any scientists (and there are hundreds of them) that might speak out against the idea of man-made global warming. It is YOU democrats that are trying to FEAR the public into voting for a democrat in the next election by attacking republican candidate's CHARACTER instead of his personal views.

YOU democrats are the ones who are committing all these crimes that you claim the republicans are doing without remorse. YOU democrats have lost your soul, you cry and complain about being silenced through your megaphones at your public rallies and through your TV interviews given during prime-time.

YOU democrats are nothing more than children. You are cowards. You are sheep. You are refusing to look into mirror. You are refusing to grow up.

General Patreaus' crudentials are beyond question, you even admitted that when you approved him for this position, yet now that he says something that might go against your plans for winning the next election, he is suddenly a liar? Pathetic...you are truly pathetic.

I expect this post to be deleted because I'm so right, and we all know that the HuffingtonPost is hardly interested in the truth...but I may aswell post it cause I'm bored silly right now.

This is hilarious...the very man that was unanimously approved by the Senate is now being painted all across the board as a Bush Pawn or one of Mr.Bush's "cronies".

The very same people that 1 year ago were crying over the president "not listening to his generals" are now painting Petreaus as a blatant liar.

It has become more obvious to me than ever before that being a democrat means never needing to say you're sorry. The left wing in the United States of America has been taken over by the extreme left, the MoveOn army of ignorant sheep is amassing an arsenal of fabrication and deciet, while it's continual buildup of "character assassins" is growing stronger than ever before.

The irony in all of this is that while these same democratic leaders are calling all the rebulicans, or even those who would dare speak out against the mainstream democratic beliefs, a bunch of fear mongerers, war mongerers, or intolerant sheep, are the exact same democrats who are trying to FEAR the public into believing this whole man-made global warming CATASTROPHY and trying to FEAR the public into believing that the United States government is secretly and illegally tapping into their phone calls with their dear old grandmother.

It is simply sickening the double standard that the democrats in this great nation is so ignored by the mainstream democrats.
