With lawmakers openly skeptical of his troop buildup, Mr. Bush will cast his plan for a gradual, limited withdrawal as a way to bring a divided America together -- even as he resists demands from those who want him to move much faster.

The prime-time address will be the eighth by Mr. Bush on Iraq since the invasion in March 2003, the latest iteration of his efforts to sketch what he calls "the way forward." It will be the first time he has described a plan for troop reductions, a radical departure for a president who has repeatedly defied his critics' calls to bring the troops home.

Yet as the president outlines his plan, his critics say he is trying to have it both ways. He is, they say, taking credit for a drawdown that has been envisioned since he first announced the current buildup on Jan. 10 -- a withdrawal that had to be carried out unless he was willing to take the politically unpalatable step of extending soldiers' tours further.

The Kiss of Death has another casualty. This Sheikh was Bush's boy last weekend and General Petraeus's favorite come-to-our-side conversion this week. Now he is dead.

Ok...the man is just doing the opposite of what the Clinton Admin did. Clinton Admin. handled foreign policy terroism very passively, and it apparently didnt work because there was 2 bombings on embassies in Africa, 1993 WTC bombing, 1999 USS Cole, 9/11. The Bush Admin is simply doing things differently because the passive foreign policy wasnt working. With this in mind, do any of you know what foreign policy would work if the clintons and the bush's couldnt get it right?

Nice rewriting of History there. I seem to recall a U.S. aircraft carrier loaded with Army heicopters streaming towards Haiti. And I recall an Al Qaeda training camp redused to rubble by cruise missile strikes. And I recall the admin acting immediately on an intelligence break which as a result stoppeda bomb destined for LAX at the border. That's passive? Now announcing a 'war of terror' then immediately going off into an unrelated pointless military adventure - that's not just passive, its criminal neglegence!

I fear you are right, BuyRubles. We are being set up just as surely as we were in the days before the start of the Iraq War. There is nothing these people are not capable of, and I fully expect a massive air attack on Iran sometime soon. Bush has already pushed the Army and National Guard to the breaking point, if not beyond. He's going to work on the Air Force next.

The only consequence of these grotesque Bush presidential speeches is to boost the ratings of "Beauty and the Geek" reruns playing opposite it on cable TV.

Bush is now conducting a war that the public doesn't believe in, that they don't think they can afford, that they don't think will pay off, that is hurting our military families, that that is handicapping the rest of our national defense, and that they feel they are trapped in. I don't envy him his 'legacy.'

Wouldn't be surprised if making the case for invading Iran is the main objective of the speech.

Here's how it will go:

"My fellow Americans, as General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker testified before Congress this week, thanks to the surge we are making steady progress in Iraq and against al Qaeda, the people who attacked us on 9/11.

"But make no mistake, unless the surge continues... the ground we have won will be lost, the sacrifice of our soldiers will have been in vain, and the tactics of those who would undermine a free Iraq -- including by killing those leaders who stand by us for photo-ops and freedom -- will be rewarded.

"The people who furnish arms and material support to those who have attacked us and continue to attack our Iraqi allies, who foster levels of barbarism unacceptable to a civilized world, the enemies of freedom-loving people everywhere, cannot consider themselves beyond the reach of justice.

"It would be a grave mistake for us to sit idly by while these enemies develop even more deadly weapons. I will not let that happen.

"I have told General Petraeus he has my full support in pursuing justice -- even if that pursuit should by necessity cross those borders of Iraq not being respected by those enemies themselves. Beyond that, I cannot and will not discuss operational details, whether by land, sea, or air. Suffice it to say, all options are on the table.

"Remember 9/11, Happy Rosh Hashanah, and God Bless America."

-- George W. Bush, later tonite.

I'm gonna bet he says "Iran" five times. I believe 5 is optimal for operant conditioning. Remember this is just a teaser to test the water.

Youre right, if he says Iran 3 or more times, this is a trial balloon. He will also say "troop" & "withdrawal" at least 3 times each for the sheep, while the focus pollers will be fixed on finding out whether they can get away with attacking Iran or not.

The MSM is hyping this speech from the
moron/war criminal as they always do.
And BUSH will do what he always does - LIE,
LIE, LIE and more Troops will DIE.
What the hell has happened to this country
that we allow this SOB/War Criminal to remain
in office? He started an illegal war, he
has shattered, trashed and pissed on the
Constitution, thousands of troops are dead
because of this bastard. Hundreds of thousands
of innocent Iraqi's are dead. Hospitals are
filled with troops who have lost their arms,
legs, eyes and they live in constant pain.
And this SOB, this War Criminal talks about
all the money he wants to make when he leaves
office. He should be on his way to the Hague
in shackles for his War Crimes.
And I repeat, what the hell has happened to this
country that we have allowed this piece of
crap to remain in office?

The little guy from Texas is going to lay another line of bull shit down. After his two used car lot salesmen did there bull shit thing yesterday. What a wast of good air time, thank god for TIVO.

"Move On" had it right Betrayus and Cocker you can damn well see why this whole damn Bush war is just plan mismanaged. If you had a corp. who had spent the lives of 3,800 killed soldiers, 30,000 soldiers wounded, 600,000 Iraq's civilians and 3/4 of a trillion dollars in our money and you would have fired his ass years ago.

Instead we are still listening to this dwib spew his bull shit. Question is when in the hell will our elected Dem. stand up and put there GD cards on the table and call this little, little man from Texas out..............

Dear 41,

Today was a fun day at the Whitehouse. Dick thought it would be a good idea to practice a little nucluar football in the situation room. At first I had some difficulty calling the play, but Dick was patient. Gosh that’s a long sequence of numbers to get right, but as I read aloud the codes I felt like I had great political capital.
I remember how President Harriet Truman dropped the A-bomb on that Japanese city. I can recall how so many countless American lives were saved because of his bold judgments. Dick told me that I too was capable of bold judgments, and I too must do what’s necessary to save so many countless American lives from the evil-doers.
In difficult times great leadership is required from out leaders, and I am a leader of difficult times. I knew that after Saddam’s failed attempt on your life he must not go unpunished. So I took him out. Now I see a new enemy and it’s late in the forth quarter. So I’m preparing with Dick, what he likes to call Operation Hail Mary.
Who knows, maybe I shall once again land on an aircraft carrier and receive the approbation of so many brave soldiers. I remember that day, decked out in my flight suit looking yehaw. Now I too know what its like to be a courageous pilot.
Sometimes, however, I feel bad. I hear all the time how people don’t think I’m a good President. Dick sometimes makes me feel bad too. I know he loves me, but he doesn’t always treat me presidentially. Sometimes I even feel misundersestimated. Nevertheless I’m the decider, and its hard work.

Your loving son, 43.

The only way I would watch any speech by this lunatic would be if he ended it by giving a hummer to Larry Craig in the oval office, and even then I'd turn the sound down.

MajorKong - You forgot to add the bit about "God told me to attack" and in God's most recent memo directly sent to GWB, God indeed says: Just give it 6 more months..... all the while putting "a smidge more" into the collection plate.
Most serial killers collect "trophies" and I believe those trophies will be deposited in "the collection plate".
These will be on display when GWB opens his War President Library. In this case, collecting blood, limbs and life itself, from our Troops.

That's one more Bush speech I won't be watching. I just can't stomach listening to Shrub. It makes me want to do something violent, which I'm sure isn't good for my blood pressure. It's just more of the same, blah, blah, blah, lie, lie, lie.
