With lawmakers openly skeptical of his troop buildup, Mr. Bush will cast his plan for a gradual, limited withdrawal as a way to bring a divided America together -- even as he resists demands from those who want him to move much faster.

The prime-time address will be the eighth by Mr. Bush on Iraq since the invasion in March 2003, the latest iteration of his efforts to sketch what he calls "the way forward." It will be the first time he has described a plan for troop reductions, a radical departure for a president who has repeatedly defied his critics' calls to bring the troops home.

Yet as the president outlines his plan, his critics say he is trying to have it both ways. He is, they say, taking credit for a drawdown that has been envisioned since he first announced the current buildup on Jan. 10 -- a withdrawal that had to be carried out unless he was willing to take the politically unpalatable step of extending soldiers' tours further.

This is gonna be more of GWB's horseshit. Remember all those "turned corners", new dawns, and good progress of four years ago?

Expect more happy horseshit from GWB tonight.

President George W. Bush has the same amount of credibility speaking about the Iraq War and Iran as Senator Larry Craig has speaking about homosexuality.

N. Korea, Syria May Be at Work on Nuclear Facility

By Glenn Kessler
Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, September 13, 2007; Page A12

North Korea may be cooperating with Syria on some sort of nuclear facility in Syria, according to new intelligence the United States has gathered over the past six months, sources said. The evidence, said to come primarily from Israel, includes dramatic satellite imagery that led some U.S. officials to believe that the facility could be used to produce material for nuclear weapons.

spec4F - elected once, but treasonous coup the first time.

Whenever this is mentioned some wingnut usually jumps in with "Get over it, already!" I imagine they use the same phrase on all the female soldiers who have been officer-raped in-theatre too.

Are those the same "U.S. officials" who sent the weapons inspectors to a storage room full of vacuum cleaners in Iraq?

Or are they the ones who did the cartoon drawings of the Trailers of Mass Destruction?

A lot of frustration here today and for good reason. As for the guy that said "Bullet through his head" Remember, big brother is reading this. We have become what we hated about the Commies of the USSR. As for the Democraps, there aren't probably even 51% of them that would vote to shut down the war. They are making money off of it too. Unless a third party comes along and can carry the day - say a sane Ross Perot, we are doomed. I am scared about all that can go wrong in the next 497 days. To those who talk about impeach, calling your congressman, whatever, here's the bottom line. He can't be stopped. Sorry but that's the way it is. Hey, there are still people out there who proudly have their Bush-Cheney 04 bumper stickers on their cars. Pray for new leadership on Jan 20 2009. It might not come.

The piece about Obama had some great news:

"The Illinois senator said the most likely scenario would be to grant troops more time at home between deployments, a politically popular step that's difficult to oppose and one that would have a practical impact.

"You have to at least give people a one-year break for every year served in Iraq," Obama said. "At least that would put a ceiling on how many troops could be sent there at any given time."

That's what I'm talking about. Obama certainly has the credibility on the war, having opposed it from the beginning.

Credibility? He said they're not going to challenge him. To me, that means they're rolling over AGAIN.

They've lost my vote.

I agree. Obama has major credibility on the issue.

The Democratic partisans don't understand that Iraq is a major issue and its complex, layered, and anything but simplistic.

I trust Obama's judgment.

Any guesses on the number of Americans that will die in Iraq during the time Bush speaks?

I say 3. They will be someone's son, daughter, brother, father, friend, and or cousin. They will be grieved by family members for the rest of tier lives.

The dead will be people that went to school, played sports, laughed, had gone to a prom.

Thier maimed and destroyed bodies will eventually be flown back to the United States. You will never see thier flag drapped coffins. They will be laid to rest. People will cry. People will wonder why their boy had to die.

President Bush will not answer that question tonight, or ever.

Bush cracks me up, if there's any progress he will say it's HIS PLAN, if things are going badly, it's the GENERAL'S PLAN. If the generals don't follow the talking points there gone, just ask Abizaid, Pace, Franks, and so on.
You must carry the water or your out.
I wish this little twit would simply disappear along with Cheney and the rest of the crooks and thugs we have in D.C.
Boy, we really must make sure we clean house people, because our country cannot take much more of these idiots.

When they asked Tommy Franks to take Baghdad, a city of five million, with 50,000 men Rummy told reporters it was Tommy's plan.

Reporter: According to General Schwartzkopf you do not have enough men to surround and capture Baghdad. What is your plan?

Rummy: It is not my plan, it is Tommy's plan.
ask him.

Franks: [Standing next to Rummy gave him a look
like he wanted to kill him.]: I am going to visit Third army personally and see what is on the ground.

Note: Franks created the Green zone and captured only part of Baghdad. He was not able to surround Saddam's army.
He chased the Republican guards away with airpower and artillery. That is why the Republican guards kept their weapons.
