With lawmakers openly skeptical of his troop buildup, Mr. Bush will cast his plan for a gradual, limited withdrawal as a way to bring a divided America together -- even as he resists demands from those who want him to move much faster.

The prime-time address will be the eighth by Mr. Bush on Iraq since the invasion in March 2003, the latest iteration of his efforts to sketch what he calls "the way forward." It will be the first time he has described a plan for troop reductions, a radical departure for a president who has repeatedly defied his critics' calls to bring the troops home.

Yet as the president outlines his plan, his critics say he is trying to have it both ways. He is, they say, taking credit for a drawdown that has been envisioned since he first announced the current buildup on Jan. 10 -- a withdrawal that had to be carried out unless he was willing to take the politically unpalatable step of extending soldiers' tours further.

The liar is going to get up there and spew more lies about the lies his General told congress.

How on earth is going from 130,000 troops,... to 160,000 troops,... and gradually sending 30,000 troops home to get back to the original 130,000 in any way "gradually drawing down" troop levels.

I mean - I was never that great at math, but even I can see that is a net change of Zero.

I am going to watch though, with a beer in hand, and rant away at this putz.

Sad that watching the president speak on TV has degenerated into a sporting event or a drinking game.

It's a good thing this prick wasn't president when I was in college. I would've been kicked out for beating the crap out of the U of I chapter of the College Republicans. Instead, I just pitied them for thinking Ronald Reagan was anything but a walking penis with a dye job.

Mr. Bush, stick your speech where the sun don't shine.

A preview of the speech:

Stay the course, hard work, the events of 9/11, we're making progress, Sept 11, progress, stay the course, we're making progress, hard work, al qaeda, terrorism, progress, Iran, fighting them there so we don't have to fight them here, Sept 11, hard work, progress (you are getting sleepy)

It will be interesting to see if he gets a higher share in the ratings today than Oprah.

My guess: NOT.

Watch bush's lips when he gives his speech tonight. If you see his lip moving, you know he is lying.

Having just watched White House Press Secretary Dana Perino chide Wolf Blitzer for giving her a "pop quiz" on each failing goal Bush outlined for the Surge in January, I couldn't help thinking this: Since when doesn't this Administration like to test people? If this were a "No Child Left Behind" test, would the Bush Administration's Surge get a failing grade? How can anyone buy that only 3 of 18 goals being met is "winning"?
