New York Times:

President Bush argued tonight that his plan to begin gradually withdrawing some troops from Iraq was a "return on success" that could be squandered by the deeper and speedier reductions that the war's opponents have demanded.

At the same time, Mr. Bush called for an "enduring relationship" with Iraq that would keep American forces there "beyond my presidency," saying that a free and friendly Iraq was essential to the security of the region and of the United States. He cast the war in Iraq as a vital part of a strategy in the Middle East to defeat Al Qaeda and to counter Iran.

it was so over last spring anyway- once they swallowed the surge- and i know they had sen craig's complete support in that... the surge and the ensuing frog circus were always meant to give congress warmongers cover to keep funding going. which, of course, the coming democrat administration will keep doing under whatever pretext after they promise withdrawl in next summer's campaign. most on this board will vote for a democrat who will continue the war after many promises to disengage and let iraq be free of imperialist oppression.

Query: It sounded to me as if the long term commitment Bush made to Iraq last night is a treaty, pure and simple. It certainly is not embraced in the so-called authority Congress gave him to take out Saddam (in lieu of Congress's Constitutional obligation to declare war).

A treaty requires approval of the Senate. How can Bush make the kind of announcement he made last night without being compelled to ask the Senate to approve the treaty? If anyone has any knowledge about this, please reply. Thank you.

While Bush and Bushies would like to make the Iraq invasion and occupation an argument of to patriotism and or national defense, it is truly a contrived political matter. Bush created a phony war that, under his negligent, arrogant and dishonest leadership, turned into a fiasco of Titanic proportions on multiple levels for Iraqis and Americans. He has no solution to his failures other than continue them because ending them would be an admission of personal failures of judgement and character. The man cares nothing about Iraq's independence or America's national defense. Only his "political" legacy of failure. EVERYONE has categorically stated that "military" victory is IMPOSSIBLE and that the objective is "political" STABILITY. Yet the only "political" stability achieved in modern Iraq history was under Saadam Hussein's ENFORCED Sunni minority government. Is anyone stupid enough to believe that what the Iraqis could do for themselves Bush is going to do for them by occupying Iraq with 160,000 American targets? BULLSHIT. Bush's only true objective is to vengefully had Democrats the fiasco he created. The man is a political whore motivated only by his personal personality abnormalities. And their Republican supporters, utterly depraved and devoid of a conscience, cheer on, caring nothing about the country ot about our soldiers. All that is important to them is that the fascists win and oil corporations make bigger profits.

By their actions, Republicans have shown that they don't care about their country. The country and our soldiers can go to hell, as long as they stay in power. This is what they call patriotism.


There is no way thses fucking fascist are going to end this clusterfuck and bring our troops home as long as the Congress keeps giving them money.

The only way is to cut off the funding for this fraud.

No bill containing a single budget item related to this fraud should ever come up for a vote.

Tell the Pentagon to use some of that half a trillion they already have in their FY2008 budget to bring the troops home. Once the troops are home, the Congress would reimburse the money.

Meanwhile, force Bush to beg the UN for an international peace keeping force in Iraq.
