Edwards Address Blurs Line Between Editorial and Advertorial

While the Giuliani campaign struts and frets over the advertisement that MoveOn ran in this week's New York Times--and the discounted rate they apparently received, they might want to take note of the benefits obtained by those who run campaign commercials on MSNBC. Yes, John Edwards had to wait for the two minutes of airtime he'd bought to respond to President Bush's address--TV Newser notes that it followed the Democratic response from Senator Jack Reed, a panel discussion, several interviews and commercials, and face time from Tim Russert and Brian WIlliams. Nevertheless, the network made up for the wait by treating Edwards' commercial as a news story on their website. Sell your ad time and claim the ad as an exclusive? Nice work if you can get it!
