Democrat Barack Obama and Republican Ron Paul have little in common politically, except their opposition to the Iraq war.

Both top a new list of presidential candidates receiving campaign contributions from people who work for the four branches of the military and National Guard, according to a study released Thursday by the non-partisan Center for Responsive Politics.

Obama, an Illinois senator, brought in more donations from this group than any White House contender from either party. The Democrat announced Wednesday his plan to withdraw all U.S. troops from Iraq by the end of 2008.

Senator, I favor the withdrawal of troops from Iraq but your plan is a prescription for certain disaster. There are at least 200,000 U.S. civilians working in Iraq today. If you become president and on your first day in the White House you do not order and assist in their speedy evacuation from Iraq BEFORE any troops leave, an increasing number of killed U.S. civilians will begin to dangle from bridges across the Tigris and Euphrates not only in Fallujah and Baghdad but in other Iraqi cities as well. The American public will be denouncing you, Sir, and rightly demand your impeachment. You, President Obama will have to halt the withdrawal of troops or, worse, send the army right back in. Your plan as it stands now is pure demagoguery

Too bad Ron Paul is a racist. He is a member of the John Birch society. If you dont believe me look it up.

I found no evidence Ron Paul is a member of the John Birch Society, but I did find this: http://www.jbs.org/node/4831

So I originally thought that based on the following article from the Houston Chronicle:

http://web.archive.org/web/20070512114222/http://www.chron.com/content/chronicle/aol-metropolitan/96/05/23/paul.html

The Ron Paul campaign claims that the person who wrote those racist statements was a staffer who did not reflect Paul's views; I'll give the benefit of the doubt to Rep. Paul on this.

However, it does reflect a somewhat disturbing trend - that outright racists are among his supporters. (I have noticed on many websites I've read comments from Ron Paul supporters that are everything from borderline racism to explicit use of epithets.) And though I don't plan to vote Republican (and therefore, don't plan to vote for Ron Paul), I have respect for him, and it disturbs me that somehow his message attracts that disgusting aspect of human behavior.

"outright racists are among his supporters".
Link? or Lies?

We are liberal democrats and we live in his district and there is no evidence of what you speak, that would only be your opinion, but absolutely NOT the truth. (although we're sure racism goes across the spectrum).
He is running on a repuglican ticket, but definitely not a repuglican as termed in todays repuglican party...Yet another lie. Thats 2.
He is a libertarian and has had to run on a rethug ticket because that is the only way to be seen, and get his message out. He knows this from his '88 run for office. He was shut down and silenced.
The Dems and Thugs made it this way.

Ron Paul would tell those so-called racists he does not want their support.
He believes in individual liberties for everyone.

No womens rights.
No Gay rights.
No Black, Mexican, Asian rights.

Rights and INDIVIDUAL LIBERTIES for everyone equally.

Imagine that, a one-size fits all.

Thats part of what the thugs dont like.
The other is he has no ties to their large corporations, NONE.
He also wants to wake up the American people and of course they do not like that as well.
The corrupt are very concerned about his campaign.
He is silenced by the local press and news. You wouldnt even know he was running around here. Just another example of big media keeping him hushed.
We wrote to him and asked why he did not sign on to the bill of Cheneys Impeachment.
He replied that the Dem speaker has said it is off the table and not an option.
He said he will absolutely consider this if it is brought to the floor.
What Thug has said that?
NONE.
If Pelosi would bring it to the floor, we think it would pass. She wont. She is the enemy
Barney Frank has refered to Paul as the most honest and dependable man on the hill.
No one ever says anything bad about him....All they do is laugh.

If what some here are accusing his agenda as supporting is true, he would not only be a racist, but a foolhardy racist! For if it is Paul's goal to diminish the rights of minorities, women and gays in search of some 'imaginary' one size fits all society, without addressing his own culture which naturally confers 'rights' upon white citizens whether it overtly states them is laughable.

For only a fool would propose to have others concede their desire for 'rights' in society, while being so self-deluded to believe that he as a 'white male' have no similar rights to lay down as well. Paul and others assume naturally that the problems with everyone getting together lies with the other guys since they believe that they're not receiving any particular benefit from being in similar groups with similar names. Their juvenile curiousity keeps them from maturely looking at themselves and the institutions and organizations which represents their 'rights' with or without an activist organ.

Yet, those who come here and announce that the problem with such groups existing and promoting the goals of their groups is that they naturally separate the country is in itself how insidious 'white priviledge' allows its members to naturally ignore its behavior and status, while at the same time causing it to believe its opinion, values and beliefs are the ones to assume and adopt.

Paul 'push-back' at diversity is rooted in fear, ignorance and racism and it's just as ugly as the other racial Texas schuchsters of the past.

Right now I live in New Hampshire and plan on voting for Ron Paul, a man with principles and the BALLS to oppose the war from the start.

You might want to google "libertarian" before you vote for Ron Paul. He's running as a republicon, but he is a libertarian at heart.....be careful what you wish for.

Ron Paul ran for president on the libertarian ticket before

he is not hiding his libertarian credentials

If he did win (can ya say snowball's chance in hell?), and knowing full well that the 'electorate' would return dems and reps to congress--god forbid the consumers of the USA should clean house--what would there be to fear? Shrinking government, reduce spending (and thereby taxes) are good ideas.

Why fear change? It has to be better than the corrupt oligarchy currently in place

It's the republic and not the party--any political party--that matters.

So say what you have to say, so I can dispute it...
Dont just make a statement and not back it up with your thoughts.
Dont be afraid of speaking your mind.
Say what you have to say.

It's not surprising that Dr. Paul is getting contributions from military people. They, most of all, know the suffering caused by the Liar-in-Chief's criminal misadventure in Iraq.

And, of course, military people despise the chickenhawk, I'll-fight-to-the-last-drop-of-YOUR-blood types running for President. In other words, ALL of 'em, except Dr. Paul.

This is why I voted for Ron Paul. He believes in our Constitution, and he believes in our country. He's right, why should we believe the people who have been wrong all along. Remember, "mission accomplished?"

We need a leader who will fight for us, not another corporate whore.

I wish people would put aside their fear of the unknown. Ron Paul will always be a Libertarian at heart. Look what party loyalty has gotten us. A system so entrenched with lobbyists that the American people don't matter anymore. Unless you have Inc. after your name and give a hundred thousand to a candidate you don't have a voice.

Obama's stock just went through the roof!

He indeed has a PLAN to bring the troops home but will not be allowed to do so, but saying that he plans to could actually get him elected.

Let me correct the record, it was a political scientist who looked at the study:

Altschuler cautioned against reading too much into the early contributions, particularly in such small amounts. "These figures could look very different in a few months."

HuffPo shilling for Obama continues. 44 donations? Wow!!!!

As the person who did the study said...these miniscule numbers mean nothing.

Why doesn't HuffPo inform us that Obama did a real nice interview with Fox News this week, his second even though the perception is that he froze out Fox?

Parents want their children home, this War was never justified. Biggest Scam, and it's still going on. Lie after Lie.

Unfortunately the Democrats don't have a cohesive plan. They're all scared of cutting the funds, and that's what it will take.

Do you think the Democrats have a vision to bring back our troops?...... ----------------> http://www.youpolls.com/details.asp?pid=486

Does Ron have a plan to get his fellow republicans to vote to get the troops out?

It's one thing to call for the troops going home, but HOW will HE get the votes needed?

Thats right, the polls are worthless (I used to work for them) and they are used to form public opinion. VOTE PAUL! He is the only REAL candidate that has a chance. Kucinich and Gravel are great but do not have the support Paul does so please put partisanship aside, he will NOT get rid of social programs even though in a perfect world he says he would like to but he can't he admits. WAKE UP PEOPLE! He is really you're only chance at a REAL GOVERNMENT THAT IS IN IT FOR YOU!

Galveston being 65% democrat, has put partisanship aside for years.
We dont always agree with how he votes, but we trust his heart and he will bring this country back to our excellent social and financial stability.
He owns Gold and Silver and nothing else...No stocks, no bonds, no real estate to speak of. He net worth is around 2 million dollars and his kids could not accept any scholarships or borrow for college. They worked and put themselves through school, all 5 of them.
He has never accepted an earmark, NEVER.
He does not partake in the congressional retirement program.
He returns a portion of our districts annual allowance back to the US treasury, EVERY year.
He is for free and open internet, saying Net-Neutrality does not go far enough.
Legalize marijuana and release the tens of thousands in prison for MINOR drug violations and get them help.
He will reinstate ALL of our constitutional guarantees.
He will eliminate the Unconstitutional income tax and abolish the IRS.
Why do we need these agencies? They only harm us by giving us a false sense of security.
We dont need Homeland security. They make us more of a target and break the backs of tax payers.
We dont need the government in our education. Look what they have done to it.
Everything the government touches falls apart and opens the door to corruption.
I want our local communities to be involved, they would do whats best for us ALL. Not the federal government.
Everything the FED touches, it wrecks either immediately or over time.
Be smart. Look at Ron Paul and explore your options. We may only have this one last chance.
