Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani criticized Democratic front-runner Hillary Rodham Clinton in a full-page ad in Friday's New York Times, accusing her of assailing Iraq war commander Gen. David Petraeus' character.

In response, a liberal anti-war group is running a $50,000 ad campaign against Giuliani in Iowa, which begins the presidential nominating process. The television ad from MoveOn.org Political Action, which will start airing next week, accuses Giuliani of a "betrayal of trust" for abandoning the Iraq Study Group.

"Rudy Giuliani has become an uncritical cheerleader for George Bush's war in Iraq," said Eli Pariser, the group's director. "Yet when he had the chance to actually do something about the war, he went AWOL."

Is it my imagination or has Rudy all of sudden become very "Rovian" in his tactics? Seems like Karl Rove may have found new employment quickly. Under the radar of course. We've all known that Rudy is just Bush redux!

Would a sane, rational person actually vote for Giuliani?

There is a very easy way to prevent anyone from being put into harm's way and that is for Saddam Hussein to disarm. And I have absolutely no belief that he will. I have to say that this is something that I have followed for more than a decade. If he is serious about disarming, he would have been much more forthcoming. I ended up voting for the resolution after carefully reviewing the information and intelligence that I had available, talking to people whose opinions I trusted, trying to discount political or other factors that I didn't believe should be in any way a part of this decision. I would love to agree with you, but I can't based on my own understanding and assessment of the situation. With respect to whose responsibility it is to disarm Saddam Hussein, I just do not believe that, given the attitudes of many people in the world community today, that there would be a willingness to take on very difficult problems were it not the United States leadership, and I'm talking specifically about what had to be done in Bosnia and Kosovo, where my husband could not get a Security Council resolution to save the Kosovar Albanians from ethnic cleansing, and we did it alone as the United States, and we had to do it alone. And so I see it somewhat differently. So forgive me for my experience and perspective. Hillary 2003

left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and keep trying to develop nuclear weapons. He has also given aid, comfort and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members. So it is with conviction that I support this resolution as being in the best interests in our nation.. I think the BIG question for Giuliani would be, 'If you are elected, at your swearing in, have you selected a dress to wear'?

As the party of porn, punks and perverts that loves to play the race card around election time and promise a free ride to everyone, we are in for a demoralizing few years if they win.

I just saw a TV ad today where the parents of a soldier killed in Iraq were using his words to pitch for "victory" for the war. Now if any advertizing is Vulgar, profane and utterly criminal, that is. To advert for one thing means to subvert all other efforts towards another. as a Vietnam Vet, I am powerfully offended that the conservatives would complain that a 4 star general who can defend himself but who also is clearly being used to pitch a policy position most Americans abhor, is criticized for actually betraying us and then offer up a sham political stink-bomb on the death bed of a soldier whose life was sacrificed for a flim-flam war! I am offended at such vulgarity and profaning of our men and women of honor. and I think his parents and their backers ought to be ashamed.

Then, you must also be "powerfully offended" by Cindy Sheehan.

Or is it only acceptable to prop up the corpse of a dead soldier when the message is one with which you agree?

Rudy attack ads do not work especially when you try to link candidates to other organizations. It never worked against GW and the swift boaters, even though we know GW was involved with them. Give it up Rudy you have far too much history in the media to win, most people really know what you are about, and smearing others will not help.

Rudy, 'freedom is respect for authority/illegal immigration is not a crime' Giuliani won't be getting MY vote, under any circumstances, I don't care if he wakes up tomorrow with the new-found ability to crap T-bills.

Apparently Hilly is pushing for Osama Obama ticket that way they get the black and muslim terrorist vote.

I know this is a big surprise, but there is not one bit of proof that Hillary has anything to do with the Move-On ad. Nice to see that the Republicans are resorting to that same old tired attack of both Senator Clinton AND Senator Obama. I knew Republicans have this disgusting racism and anti-women attitude but carrying it this far is ridiculous and beyond the pale. But no big deal, these low types of attack just show how cornered Republicans must feel in this election, with few options to win anything. Very sad that a once proud party has stooped to name calling with no program of their own, just some hack sort of response to what the Democrats are doing this time. That I have been a life long Republican, a moderate one to be sure, does not preclude me from confronting the racism and hate mongering in my party. I have not left the Republican party. There is simply no room left for me in this hate-filled, immoral party.

I'm not going to defend the previous inane "Osama Obama" statement, but you're absolutely wrong on your statement "Hillary has [not had] anything to do with the Move-On ad" is misleading. MoveOn has provided large sums of money to the Democratic party and the campaigns of all the front runners. As such, Sen Clinton/Obama/Edward's lack of response to the Petraeus ad was innexcuseable. The public is left with one of two reasons for their silence: either they are intimidated by MoveOn or they agree with them.

helonias - Just pointing out the hypocrisy. With her lack of character and inability to tell the truth about anything it's and bedding down with the despicable people that operate on moveon, she needs to look at her own lack of real american values.

This is a case of someone worrying about the speck in Hillary's eye when they have a 2 x 4 in their own eye. I have seen absolutely no notation on the move-on.org ad that the add was paid for with any Hillary money. But this sort of swift boating seems the trump card of the sad Republicans. But alas, no one is believing them this time and it is driving them nuts.

Hillary should take out a full page add asking Rudy, "how did two airplanes knocked down three buildings"
