Telegraph (U.K.):

Senior American intelligence and defence officials believe that President George W Bush and his inner circle are taking steps to place America on the path to war with Iran, The Sunday Telegraph has learnt.

Pentagon planners have developed a list of up to 2,000 bombing targets in Iran, amid growing fears among serving officers that diplomatic efforts to slow Iran's nuclear weapons programme are doomed to fail.

WTF?! Has anyone seen this story or anything like it in any US newspaper? Why does a UK paper scoop the US media on a stunning story like this? (That was a rhetorical question - I know the answer.)

Isn't that the reason Rumsfeld abandoned Osama and Afghanistan, not enough bombing targets.

Cowboys v. Planet Earth

Couch cowboys like to brag they can beat anybody. Well, they're right about that. But they're talking about murder-suicide. As eager as the cowboys are for a "Nuke 'em up at the OK Corral," they seem ignorant of the fact that when they destroy their real or imaginary "enemies'" environment, they destroy their own environment at the same time.

The Pentagon boasts enough nuclear weapons to kill every person on earth 12 times over. It should be abundantly obvious that--as nostalgic as war profiteers and numbskulls are for WW II--another all-out war today would end life on this planet.

The Constituion no longer Applies. King George and Prince Dick can start War without approval of Congress.

It is amazing how low a once great nation has sunk. It will be funny to watch Americans running around wondering what happened after Nuclear bombs start exploding in the middle East.

Good luck with that 08 election. Don't need an election, you got King George. An election would be un-patriotic.

Watch as America destroys itself.

How much money will the Bushies and Cheneys make on War with Iran ?

The US military has "two major contingency plans" for air strikes on Iran.

"One is to bomb only the nuclear facilities. The second option is for a much bigger strike that would - over two or three days - hit all of the significant military sites as well. This plan involves more than 2,000 targets."

Either is a loss. Iran is not Iraq and Bush supporters are not patriots. Everyone loses.

There have been reports such as this one circulating for some time. Most say the same thing, that Bush and Cheney want to attack Iran.

If they don't have enough provocation to attack, they will fabricate the excuses. For example, it was once postulated that Bush/Cheney would be willing to sacrifice one of our aircraft carriers (along with all the military personnel on board) via a false-flag operation in order to justify attack, claiming self-defense.

Considering the PNAC plan to conquer the middle east corridor (Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, etc.), the plans have a ring of truth. A plan such as this might also explain why Bush is unwilling to draw down troops in Iraq. We should not be surprised is something like this were to happen.

Perhaps this would finally be clear proof of insane ambitions the likes of which have not been seen since the Third Reich. And, with reported civilian casualties in Iraq now being cited as possibly one million plus, possibly another holocaust.

Neocons and fundies are clueless when it comes to math. You know that 6000 equals 6 billion in their corner of the world.

Attacking Iran would probably add generously to the number of unintended consequences resulting from our invasions of Iraq and Afganistan. How about Iran and Iraq are both Shia dominated. Sunni Saudi Arabia might see our extension of the Middle East war as an opportunity to increase there current aid to the Iraqui Sunnis to create a Sunni dominated Iraq. How about unforeseen actions taken by those countries who are friendly to Iran? We have about 200,000 soldiers stuck in the middle of about a billion Muslims. Who knows what anger they might feel as they become convinced we are Crusaders? It is possible that the rhetoric spouted by Ahmandirajad cocerning advances in nuclear technology has no basis in fact? Is Iran just trying to pull Bush's chain, using Bush techniques, to see how far he will go? A few bombing runs would not be the end of the Iran war. Expect immediate reintroduction of the draft. Who knows how many countries we will be fighting in the Middle East a year from now?

I viewed a Neo-Conservaitive AEI circle jerk on C-Span this past weekend, one of the panelist included former CIA Director James Woolsey and several neo-conservative think tankers I've never heard of before. On one level they spoke about the Iranian president has no real power, a figurehead president who has become very unpopular, they also pointed out that 69% of Iranians polled, would like to have a normal relationship with the US. One of the panelist commented that the Iranian Religious leadership is becoming increasingly hated by normal Iranians whom are growing more and more secular. Finally they mentioned that under the Iranian Mullahs the Iranian economy has suffered, with reduced ability to refine their own oil reserves, making rationing necessary and increased crackdowns on Iranian students, the secular middle class and woman. I could make the same comparisons to Saudi Arabia.

I agree with most of their assessment, where I parted company was when they used the above facts to promote regime change by force if necessary to protect the Iranian people from their own government. I am convinced that the neo-conservatives are fucking nuts to sit around and rationalize another war with a nation given time will find their own way. Because of their demimishing, popularity, the Iranian Mullahs will have to change or be over-thown, yet they hype the Iranian threat to US national security when one balletic submarine laying of their coast could level Tehran a city of 15 million people. They constantly compare Iran to the former Soviet Union, the Nazis, and the Imperial Japanese. I can make the same comparison of neo-conservative point of view to the very same belligerent nations they mentioned in their presentation. The US has the right to defend itself, but we do not have any right to make war on a nation of 77 million people who are largely pro-west, to full-fill some ideological fantasy, which has the potential of killing millions. This nonsense needs to end now.

By attacking Iran, Bush is only trying to solve the Social Security problem--if there is no one left to pay off, the problem is solved.
