Telegraph (U.K.):

Senior American intelligence and defence officials believe that President George W Bush and his inner circle are taking steps to place America on the path to war with Iran, The Sunday Telegraph has learnt.

Pentagon planners have developed a list of up to 2,000 bombing targets in Iran, amid growing fears among serving officers that diplomatic efforts to slow Iran's nuclear weapons programme are doomed to fail.

This has got to be Propaganda PR. Law enforcement would never tell a drug dealer that they are going to hit them, and give specifics. Then again, Bush doesnt always to the smartest thing.

I still think this is propaganda at work. Besides, I dont think it matters to Iran. I think what they are trying to see is if they can push the US into attacking. If they push the envelope as far as they can without actually admitting to anything, and we do attack, I believe the shit will hit the fan around the world of the likes we have never seen before. Iran , with its friends like china, russia, and a billion or more muslims in every corner of the world, will have allies big and small, and everywhere you look. And they can point the finger and blame the US for provoking it by attacking, while our politicians will point their fingers saying we had to because we thought they were doing this, or building that. Which the whole world knows was our excuse for invading Iraq, and it was total bullshit.
With Iran, whether its BS or not doesnt matter because as most intelligent people know, its not what you are, its what your perceived to be.
And right now, the US is perceived by an overwhelming amount of the worlds population as arrogant, spoiled bullies who are trying to force everyone into bowing at their knees and doing whatever our current government demands.
I think Iran is trying to push it to a breaking point. Either showing us a all talk and no balls, or as ruthless war mongers. Either way, its not going to be a good outcome for anyone involved.

YOU KNOW WHAT JUSTICE WOULD BE?

IF THE USURPATION ATTACKED IRAN AND ALL THE US PLANES WERE SHOT DOWN AND ALL THE US CARRIERS WERE SUNK AND ALL THE US MISSLES WERE INTERCEPTED AND THE ONLY PEOPLE HURT WERE THE ONES FOLLOWING ILLEGAL ORDERS TO ATTACK IRAN.

LETS ALL HOPE IT DOESN'T GO THAT FAR, YET IF IT DOES....

Even with all of this going on, there's still roughly 20% of the public that AGREES with Bush Jr. I wonder what they'll do when we attack Iran and they retaliate (most sovergn nations will, after all)? Is Blackwater going to protect them from everybody else fighting for survival. Basic human nature. When people are desperate, they will do and say anything they have to to survive.

CAREFULL AMERICANS!!!! The most wanted top terrorists Bush and Cheney and the ugliest ever pancake looking State Department chief Ric have a new evil game: attacking Iran! They want to make you Americans (whom most of you are low educated and very simple to manipulate) believe the following storytale:
1. North Korea has sold its nukes to Syria (who believes that is dam stupid)
2. Syria is going to hand the nukes to Iran...

Don't you see the new game which is played? A terror government like the one in the White House need a new legitimate-built story to find the approval of the US masses to start a new mess.
If you Americans want to prevent these further lies to be swallowed, you would have to make these lies public, on TV and newspapers. Wake up, folks!

Believe me, a US attack on Iran would launch a terror wave throughout the western world. Iran has plenty of financial resources to sponsor its islamic terrorist cells located worldwide. The US should not dare to wake up the dragon Iran. Iran just hopes and even yearns that the US fall into another trap, like it did with Iraq. Iran is in the position to strike globally, while after all, the war in Iraq is a local conflict and war.
So for our own sake, do not let US make this favour to Iran.

If we bombed the shit out if Iran there wouldn't be much they could do.

A US attack on Iran would launch a "terror wave" on the Western world?

The fact that the US has consistently refused to talk to Iranians is a clear indication that we are itching for a chance to attack them, and not have a peaceful resolution of issues, because it would almost certainly not include US getting control of their oil.

To the extent that Iranians are “crazy”, they are not crazy enough to abandon their plans for nuclear weapons capability. Use Google to find out how Iran is now surrounded by US military bases. Their only chance of avoiding a US attack, and saving their national resources, is to have nuclear weapons. They may be crazy, but they wouldn’t have to be to understand that US does not attack countries with nuclear weapons.

Democrats did not have control of the Congress when Iraq fraud began. They still could have done more to stop it, but they didn’t. Now they are in power. They would have no excuse whatsoever for not stopping Iran fraud. The surge in Iraq is the first step in the escalation and expansion of Iraq fraud. The Democrats in Congress should know this. If there is a way to stop it and they don’t, they would be just as responsible as Bush for every additional death and injury to American soldiers, and for every additional atrocity committed against civilians in Iraq and Iran.

Perhaps not. But please read the somewhat reformed NeoCon Fukuyama link I provided in a post above. It is very interesting. Fukuyama has learnt that force is not the right way to do it. However, he has not given up the NeoCon objective of "benevolent hegemony".

Actually, we talk to Iran all the time. It's just done through back channels and not publically. This is an old diplomatic game of sorts. Iran never apologized or made amends for siezing our embassy after the revolution. That's why we don't have public, high level talks. It may seem childish but there is a real standard in international law for this sort of thing. It's not something that this administration came up with. We talk to Iran through intermediaries (sp?), i.e. countries that are trusted by both sides. There is communication going on.

I do agree with you about Iran's rationale for building nuclear weapons and that the Bush Administration has given them every reason to accelerate their program. The "Axis of Evil" speech was one of many blunders.

jrb35:
You're absolutely right about back channel communication, and it's the only way it can be done. In a diplomatic and legal sense, we have been at war with Iran since the seizure of our embassy.

Iran never apologized or made amends for siezing our embassy after the revolution.- jrb35
------------------

And we never apologized for CIA's overthrow of an elected governmnet in Iran, and installation of a brutal dictator called the Shah.

So?

There is no "crisis" and there is no threat from Iran to the US. It is all bunk.

Unfortunately, my parents and most of my family are part of the 28% lunatic fringe. What is interesting is that they don't keep up with what is going on, they are apathetic. But if you start to criticize Bush or Cheney or any of the wingnuts, they immediately come to their defense. The 28%, for me, represent the most dangerous segment of our population...the uneducated, disengaged ideologues. They voted these crazies in and then looked the other way as the world falls apart around them.

It’s not a few million hillbillies.

It is several dozen neoconservatives inside (and outside yet influencing) the bush administration. Many brought out of the refrigerator and reheated from the Nixon administration (Cheney leads that list). The rest are non military PNAC signatories (Bill Kristol leads that list).

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:04 AM on 09/17/2007

Exactly. And if you look at the associations of the prominent neocon warmongers, you find they are hand-in-glove with so-called "defense" (read, war) contractors. A couple of examples are George Bush with his Carlyle Group, Dick Cheney with his Halliburton, and Dick's wife Lynne with her Lockheed Martin. They start the wars and then they profit from the wars.

Francis Fukuyama is one of the original signers of the PNAC Statement of Principles – the “NeoCon Oath” of sorts: http://www.newamericancentury.org/statementofprinciples.htm

It is enlightening to read what Fukuyama has to say now, after four years of Iraq fraud, in his new book. Excerpts are available at The Guardian web site:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/story/0,,2002439,00.html

“The neocons have learned nothing from five years of catastrophe. Their zealous advocacy of the invasion of Iraq may have been a disaster, but now they want to do it all over again - in Iran “

it is morons like this that almost make me want Bush to attack Iran..

the consequences of which would bring much of the world to it's knees economically..

do you think the world hates us now..

wait till the middle east oil stops flowing out to the world and watch them hate us then..

if attacked.. Iran will strike back.. not directly.. but by destroying all oil resources within the middle east..

thus plunging the world into darkness..

The issue isn't whether we can attack Iran. Of course we can and we can likely inflict a Hell of a lot of damage but would Bush and Cheney unleash the entire American arsenal or try a more targeted approach. Frankly, the US Air Force could turn Iran into a smoking desert in a few days but we can hope even these two aren't that stupid. The real question concerns consequences. What would they be for America and for the world. I rather think the consequences of an attack are overwhelmingly negative and far outweigh the consequences of allowing Iran to develop nuclear power. But since Israel won''t ever let that happen even if it has to use nuclear weapons...the situation grows perilous and sadly the world has nitwits pretending to be leaders.

Yeah, the USAF can inflict a lot of damage, but history has shown that (non-nuclear) carpet bombing does not do enough damage to defeat an insurgent population. "Surgical" strikes do even less. People are very adaptable and resourceful when they have nothing left to lose. Check North Vietnam, Iraq in the early 90s.

Also, to the idiots who think that the Navy can subdue Iran: do you want to bet the life of your first born on the ability of our carrier groups to evade the Silkworm missile?

Then Bushco all held hands and prayed aloud (really loud) and God heard them and opened their bible to the pages where his kid (Jesus) talked about turning the other cheek, loving thine enemy and beating swords into plowshares. Bushco read the passages aloud then shoot the bible repeatedly and got back to praying. To which god we are not sure.

God (Jesus's dad) shed a tear.
