Los Angeles Times:

"If mothers ruled the world, there wouldn't be any god -" Emmy winner Sally Field said before the Emmycast cut her off her sound and pointed the camera away from the stage so viewers would be distracted. Cut off were the words "god-damned wars in the first place."

"How can this be?" she asked when she won best actress in a drama series for her work as matriarch Nora Walker on "Brothers & Sisters." While the two-time Oscar winner already has two Emmys, this was her first nomination for series work, and she bested a field that included favorite Edie Falco of "The Sopranos."

"This belongs to all the mothers of the world - may they be seen and valued," she said in a heartfelt speech that was only partially heard by Emmywatchers in the US while CTV in Canada did not cut her off.

I have a solution to the Fox censorship problem. Let's face it, they have the right to censor as our people have the right to say what ever they want, it's all freedom of speech. But having said that, and our conservative friends will appreciate this part of my comment: We have the right to tune out next time Fox hosts an award show, ANY AWARD SHOW. "The market will dictate Fox's ratings" Seriously folks that's the way to fight censorship.

I guess the networks felt that since we are a nation of children we should be treated as such. Heaven forbid than anyone get away with saying something not in lock-step with the surge mentality.

Good for you Sally and shame on the TV people who lack any balls.

NO , her comments were NOT deleted for the political nature !!!SALLY HERSELF has said it was due to the profanity. And even though the majority her would not be offended , the vast majority of the viewers would be in using that particular profanity. Like it or not that and only that is the reason for the deletion. Again this was a commercial venture , had nothing to do with free speech but all to do with ratings , ads and dollars

Bullshit, "Technically, Field's censored words are not profane. A 2004 FCC ruling specifically stated no objection to the use of "god damn" on TV when making a judgment on the uproar over Bono swearing at the Golden Globes in 2003 where he used more colorful language".

Try again troll.

I rarely watch television and definitely nothing on fox. However, when something is censored my imagination fills in the blanks with embellishments. I'm sure the censors did Miss Fields a favor. You did get the message didn't you? So, who cares?

Her statement has profound meaning, because it was a censored opinion. She didn't yell "Fire" in the theater, and there was no vulgarity. So it was censored purely for political purposes, and that is why it is important to make it very public.

Apparently that word is considered vulgar.

It's interesting (hehe) that we can comment on the censoring of Fields, yet are censored here as to any comments concerning that waste of DNA O.J. Simpson.

Notice the many, MANY ways the right wing media is encouraging us to dismiss any anti-war protests. From MoveOn.org ad against Petraeus's 'report' that sooo syncs with what Bush wants to do to Sally Fields being bleeped. They are using the ad from MoveOn (which is a very young, passionate, slightly extremist band) to tar the entire Democratic Party! When the polls tell us CLEARLy that the public has the VERY SAME DOUBTS about Petraeus's objectivity. And Ms. Fields is a private citizen entitled to voice whatever political view she likes. Ah, gotta love those Bush techniques--they always 'change the subject' from the war, to the type of protest, and in the process just smear everyone who gets in their way.

The more things change, the more they remain the same

While many Americans doubt the objectivity of Petraeus few would label him a traitor.

The Democratic Party tarred themselves. All the Presidential candidates had to do was denounce the add. After all they do receive millions of dollars by this extremist group of anti-American scum.

Why would any of the candidates denounce the truth? You make no sense.

I helped pay for that ad.

I got my money's worth.

I am not an extremist. I am not anti-American. I am not scum.

I have the utmost respect for Sally Fields, and she had the right to express herself, especially when the words were so true. Had she been FOR the war, her entire speech would have been war. The Bush Syndrome is taking away more freedoms than we realize. It is time to take back our country, time to remove Bush and Cheney and restore our country to peace, sanity and freedom.

anybody expecting anything different from FOX??? gag and puke.
and i'm still laughing at 'world's tallest midget' comment, since i'm a short person. i may appropriate that, since i find 'vertically challenged' a tad old. i apologize to all actual midgets; i know 'little person' is now the PC standard.... but 'world's tallest little person' aint funny.
rock on sally field, and stop shilling for the pharma companies. take some calcium and work on the old osteoporosis... it's not a drama, just a condition for us older folk... and by the way, one side effect of aging is --- shrinking! so, maybe we'll all be tall midgets if we live to 100!
