Emmys Censor Sally Field's Anti-War Statement

"If mothers ruled the world, there wouldn't be any god -" Emmy winner Sally Field said before the Emmycast cut her off her sound and pointed the camera away from the stage so viewers would be distracted. Cut off were the words "god-damned wars in the first place."

"How can this be?" she asked when she won best actress in a drama series for her work as matriarch Nora Walker on "Brothers & Sisters." While the two-time Oscar winner already has two Emmys, this was her first nomination for series work, and she bested a field that included favorite Edie Falco of "The Sopranos."

"This belongs to all the mothers of the world - may they be seen and valued," she said in a heartfelt speech that was only partially heard by Emmywatchers in the US while CTV in Canada did not cut her off.

Even Sally said if she had not used the profanity the message would not have been deleted. This is an awards show not a free speech podium. Any of the networks who would have broadcast are responsibel to the advertisers and FCC. Not the politics of the recipient. Her view was never the issue and she knows it. And it is not amazing but expected that when one disagrees with the rabid left the obsenities and profanities explode. Note that POWER TO THE PEOPLE has crossed political lines to be the #1 book .

Thank you, Sally Field you stood up for the mothers of soldiers who haven't and will never have a voice about the Bush/Cheney Iraq debacle. With now over 3000 soldiers dead and who knows how many Iraqi women and children displaced or dead, our foolish politicians still hesitate,or fail to take a more dramatic stand, furthermore the major networks follows lock step behind them, following "more important entertainment news", such as O.J. and Brittany. When are the media outlets going to portray this war for what it is... a war for oil and profit, not for freedom and democracy.­... When is the media going to discuss the Project for the New American Century? This is the docrtrine which outlines the possible invasion of Iraq and the middle east before 911 even happened. Where is the coverage on this?????? The plan is to occupy the Middle east, where is the money going to come from, all the while our own infrastructure is collapsing around us. If my son were to be called to war in a draft I would go to prison before I would let him serve in this conflict. FOX News is generally dishonest, however, this wasnot the news division and they have a claim to editing "god-damn" as inappropriate language rather than suppressing the anti-war statement but with them that must remain suspect. I think it was stupid and unnecessary but not a big deal. This was an entertainment show and therefore within their rights to edit as they choose despite my disagreement with their decision. I think Ms Field should be able to say what ever she god-damn likes.

Gidget goes to Washington, you go girl. Sally has never made a bad movie from the Gidget TV series to Murrfy's romance, she is still sexy at her age. I am at loss as to what the hell is going on with the media in this country. I remember when Michael Moore was booed for his comments in 2003 for Fahrenheit 911, yet everything he said and predicted was correct, now more than 4 years latter in completely different atmosphere Sally is edited. Canada and the Europe know and care more about our politics then we do. I know a Canadian communications officer recently retired from Canadian Military and rotated home from the Middle East. The Canadian solder who was killed when the Israelis dropped 2 500Lb bombs on a UN observation bunker flying a UN flag, during the conflict with Lebanon last summer was a friend of his.

As usual Israel offered a half ass explanation for the incident saying that their was rocket launcher behind the installation, as usual did not apologize. This particular UN installation was quite large and and once again flying a UN flag, what were the Israeli pilots rules of engagement? They pulled the same bullshit when a US flag surveillance ship, the USS Liberty, was attacked by Ireali war planes and torpedo boats off the coast of Lebanon during the 67 war. If Israel was any other nation this would be an act of war yet it was covered up by the Johnson Administration. An interesting foot note to Liberty incident is that their was a fleet carrier 15 min away in flight time, yet fighter cover did not show up after the Liberty called for help.

I am not anti-semitic, but I'm tired of that term being tossed around when lseral performs a belligerent act and we look the other way. I could not imagine if Iran attacked and destroyed a UN installation, not to mention a US Flagged warship killing half it's crew. I need not mention my Canadian friend is more than angry over the incident.

It's always annoying when someone in the entertainment community feels compelled to use the bully pulpit of an award show to advocate a political position.

In this particular case, Sally was mostly incoherent and not a particularly effective for advancing her point of view. Then, again, she has a penchant for producing douche chills at award shows.

I would prefer not to know the political positions of entertainment celebrities. Although they're welcome to believe whatever they want, spare me the tedium of listening to their tired and pathetic rants.
