BBC:

French foreign minister Bernard Kouchner says the world should prepare for war over Iran's nuclear programme.

"We have to prepare for the worst, and the worst is war," Mr Kouchner said in an interview on French TV and radio.

Mr Kouchner said negotiations with Iran should continue "right to the end", but an Iranian nuclear weapon would pose "a real danger for the whole world".

The administration has failed, because of complacency, to understand the depth of anger in America today. The administration is complacent because it sees the war protest as ineffective; the public is complacent because the society has achieved a certain amorphous form where one is really uncertain about where to protest.

At the height of the Vietnam war the social fabric of America came very nearly irreparably ripped. Those wounds have healed but a lurch toward war with Iran could even unleash some of the underground minuteman groups. The Bush administration could have a major civil uprising if there is an attack on Iran. An attempt to use the US military or police departments to quell such disturbances is likely to fan the flames rather than put them out.

rowland dont think americans have hit rock bottom yet. I dont see an uprising until the middle class no longer exists.

americans are too materialistic to have an uprising. too tied to their wealth. when the middle class wealth goes then americans will be upset enough to.........; its all about money. follow the money.

we are fighting this war on a credit card so americans are content with that. it is when we have to pay back china that things will heat up.

americans are too busy to be concerned about a war. the only reason they are upset now is because we are losing. americans hate to lose. bullies hate to lose also.

americans dont give a hoot about anyone but themselves. americans are a me/me society. 50 mil without medical care says it all. america did not care about open borders until the illegals came to their state. then they whine like babies.

sounds right to me.....i was wondering why no uprising but this makes as much sense as anything else (more sense than that war)

Come on. It's kind of unfair to lump all of us together. Not that your sentiments aren't correct, they are. It's just that, there're millions of Americans, say 50mill, who voices aren't being heard, and they're too busy trying to make ends meet to do too much about the war.

Read you knucklehead. Its FRANCE, not Bush, who is talking about attacking Iran. ..And the reason is simple: Look at the map. The Euro's realize some of that fall-out from Iran dropping a big one on Israel will be over Europe.

for France, Iran is about Russia. for the U.S., Iran is about Saudi Arabia, and Middle Eastern hegemony.

if Iran surrendered to these madmen and turned to solar power mega-installations instead of nuclear reactors, they could turn this international PR campaign around.

What the Hell happened to the 6-8 year time line until Iran grows weapons grade Plutonium? Or does this mean that France is going to Give it to them so we'll be able to bomb them before Chimpy's time is up?

Look, if you know a General or an Admiral, get them off to the side and beg them to tie W and Dicky to a fire plug until January '08! Honest, if we can put this thing off long enough, the whole world will get back to normal after January 20, 2009.

The best way to prevent the bastards from making more war based on lies, is to impeach them for making war based on lies.
Damn those "opponents of the war" who do nothing. I will vote for a Republican warmonger before I'll vote for a Do-Nothing. Better an honest enemy than a bad 'friend.'
By the way, when I try to say such things with some of our bloggers, although thgey are "opposed to the war" politicians, my stuff doesn't appear. So much for honest exchange of ideas..

Has France cleared this with their EU partners?

France always complains about the British "going it alone" in opposition to the wishes of the EU.

There is a whole lot of money to be plundered in Iraq and Sarkozy is jockeying for a piece to make sure his cheering and $upporting $ection at France's huge oil multinational Total is kept happy and gets a piece of Iraq's oil booty. Probably explains why he is so eager to take up the role as French poodle and Duhbya's BFF.

Maybe this could also add some perspective regarding to the president Sarkozy's present views and the French Foreign Minister's comments.

This is not anymore the France you knew before Sarkosy and spring loaded Kouchner.

This french administration has become another bush puppet but maybe even worse in terms of crazy actions and decisions to come.

They will be going to great lenght to please the french equivalent of aipac in Europe and the U.S. administration

Incredibly, Bush clones are still emerging and that is (seems to me) the result of the liberal parties in many countries having been infiltrated by folks who have an agenda other than the party in which they militate.
Very old but still efficient tactic.
