AP:

The Jodie Foster vigilante flick "The Brave One" scared up $14 million at the box office to become the weekend's top film.

The Warner Bros. tale of revenge transcended gender, appealing to older women as well as men who might naturally be expected to enjoy the violent, R-rated film.

They should post Jodie's picture aiming at John Travolta in Hairspray

captioned, "COME OUT or she shoots"

Jody is a great actress who would gain lots of attention and respect by telling the world who she really is....a proud, talented lesbian who makes a great role model for the lesbisn/gay community. Cummonn Jody...come out into the sunshine and show some respect for yourself. Homophobic Hollywood will get over it when you people stand up for yourselves..........rambro

Interesting front page Huffpo alignment: a photo of Jody Foster aiming a pistol at a photo of George Bush.

Thi is what I think:
She's in a past movie, trapped in a safe house like apartment, fending off thugs. Now, she's here as a quasi-vigilante badass chick.
The strongwarrior like action princess with a coiffe.PPPPppppleaseeeee.......
Give it up Jody..... As if anyone wants to see another tough chick flick, "I will Survive" blah blah blah.............
She plays a straight chick, though she's a lesbian in real life, whose boyfriend gets roughed up and killed. Nothing unconscious here. Right......This role, and Jodie, reeks of pretentious fabrication. This kind of role so easily glamorizes the star and places her int he tough cookie category. She even has a stylist for her neatly cropped hair.
Jody's stale; little fire, like little tate, burns thru those eyes...

I notice you positioned the photo on the home page of Jodie pointing the gun so that she is aiming directly at the adjacent picture of Bush. Nice touch.

Come out, come out, wherever you are, Jodie!

When, if ever, does she ever have chemistry with her male co-stars???

Well, since you obviously haven't seen the movie, I'll let ya know that she has chemistry with her male co-star in this movie (Naveen Andrews from Lost). Her sexual orientation has no bearing on her incredible acting abilities. The whole cast is a strong one and the movie is worth seeing.

I do have to agree with Libsrule however, good movie, poor message. I enjoyed the pace and acting of the film but the vigilantism at the end left me cold. (but not until AFTER I'd seen the movie.. during it, I was very drawn in.. that's the mark of a good movie in my opinion, when I am watching something I absolutely disagree with but the action holds me rapt.)

Thanks for the chuckle. I'm reminded of Charles Bronson. Jodie has his haircut.

Jodie is indeed a great actress and it was a good movie, but it was predictible and that pretty much sunk it for me. But good acting and good suspense.

BUT I think I saw the same movie a few years ago....Flightplan? Or was it Death Wish? Ya know...kill the man that way she doesn't have to have any physcai seens with any yucky men and the spend the rest of the movie figuring it out and exacting revenge.

In other words taking the law into her own hands, circumventing the rule of law, giving no chance for our legal system, just killing stereotyped bad guys who are so rotten we love seeing them killed violently.

Good acting, and poor message.

As a society we are seeing far too much of this from 24 where torture, and killing are more than acceptable and up to movies like this.

Oh well, she earned her money. Who cares about the message, the bad guys ate it.

You pretty much nailed the mentality of the Reagan, Bush I and Bush II administrations right in the bullseye.

Did you even SEE the movie? She had plenty of "physcai seens" with co-stars. Most of the movie was her and the male detective. She also shared scenes with her deceased b/f, who they shot some love scenes with. The whole reason this movies was so good was BECAUSE she shared scenes with other actors and yet was still the focus, - ala silence of the lambs.

The movie was great. And it was much different than death wish. Her character didn't even buy the gun to get any kind of revenge, she bought it because she was scared to walk out her front door. I don't recall Charles Bronson feeling that way.

If her character had not acted from fear she would not have generated sympathy from the audience. If she just acted for the sake of revenge she would have been a ball breaking bitch and no one would have liked her character. It's that vulnerability that makes the difference.

She still has a Bronson haircut, and I still believe this is Death Wish rewritten from a female angle.

"Revenge movies often appeal to men, but the fact that Jodie Foster was in it brought in the women," said Paul Dergarabedian, president of box-office tracker Media By Numbers. "That combination worked."

I think if you look closer at Jodie's audience ,,,,it's spelled WOMYN.

Gay men will be showing up too.
