GOP Candidates Hold "Values Voter" Debate

Oh my...where do I begin? Let's start with this. This was unlike any debate I've ever seen. This one put the YouTube debate to shame in an Evangelical sort of way. No snowman but it had its moments. It started like this:

The Church of God choir sang "Why should God bless America?" Then someone in the choir began reading from The Book of Chronicles and finally an opening prayer. Could you imagine this sponsored on MSNBC or any other cable outlet? The MSNBC Choir? Then maybe Brian Williams would come out and read the Book of Chronicles followed by a prayer by Chris Matthews.

I realize that I live in San Francisco but it might as well be a different planet given how far out of touch they are from the world I live in. If that's their vision for America, then perhaps we San Franciscans should go our own way. We, as of yesterday, have universal health care for all our citizens. Thank you Mayor Newsom for your leadership on this and so many other issues. You make me proud to be a San Franciscan. You really do. As a writer, I can't afford health care and I can't thank you enough for this. From the bottom of my heart you really made a difference in my life.

"Values Voters"? Give me a fucking break! If your values are hatred, bigotry, intolerance, homophobia, xenophobia, war-mongering, greed, scorn for the poor, power and privilege for the rich, and every other repugnant value a society could possibly have, you're already a Republican! I'm not a Christian, but I have read the Beatitudes and think they are quite beautiful.
Can anyone explain to me how any of these candidates can call themselves Christians (which would infer a belief in the man and his teachings), when none of them reflect a single one of his teachings as set forth in the Beatitudes?
From what I've seen and heard, they are the ones 'mocking God'.
