After declaring she didn't "believe in evolution, period," new "View" co-host Sherri Shepherd was asked if she thought the world was flat. Her response to moderator Whoopi Goldberg is in the clip below.

Jeffrey is Shepherd's two-year-old son.

What's disturbing, is Sherri's lack of curiosity about things outside herself. Unfortunately, it seems like most of American society has a similar problem.

Vast numbers of Americans can't name the vice president of the United States. Nor point out France on a map. It's not so much a lack of inteligence, so much as it a lack of feeling like these things matter.

Maybe endless rounds of testing in schools isn't the answer, so much as getting kids turned on to knowledge, for knowledge's sake.

How stupid can you be? I wrote earlier about Ms. Elisabeth Hasslbeck who I find to be delusional and irresponsible in her dereliction of civic duty. Ms. Shephard stands testament to the failure of American education. Doesn't believe in evolution? The world is flat? I don't think she is a Friedmanist but a Ptolemist. I wonder if the Earth is the centre of the universe in her cosmology. Whatever the case, she is unqualified to have such a pulpit as The View. Better yet she is more apt to be a contestant on Who's Smarter than 5th Grader? for she is apparently not. Has she ever stood on a beach or a mountain top and not seen the curvature of the Earth? But no matter the cause of her own stupidity, for us to debate matters of scientific fact is such a distraction from matters more urgent save for the fact that in her ignorance she becomes a dangerous impediment to progress.

Worried about food on the table for her kid? When in 2nd grade when most kids will be able to answer this question correctly?

This woman is dumber than dirt.

Although I am, in some cases, loath to admit my ignorance, this time I'll plunge in.

Who is she and/or what's her claim to fame?

The only times I've seen "The View" is when I've been in the waiting room at my car service place.

I mean really! How many people, if you gave them pen & paper & told them to draw a picture of Earth would draw a square?!?

C'mon. I believe there's something called "conventional wisdom". She hadn't thought about it, so she couldn't say. Well, think about it now! Right now! Just think about it and hazard a guess. You got a 50/50 chance to get it right lady.

And not all fat people are fat because they're lazy slobs, by the way. Some eat way less than many skinny people, and we all know it's not fair to generalize kids...

Um, we were talking about flat people.

Not fat people.

Sherri Shepherd is an insult to women. Couldn't The View have selected someone who was funny AND smart? She seems too dumb to be given a seat at the table. She doesn't believe in evolution and she thinks the world may be flat----or has never thought about it. This is about as stupid as it gets. The View now has two, unbearable, close-minded panelists---Sherri and Elisabeth. Remember when the great outrage was anti-war Rosie? Seems refreshing about now.

They tried to get Kathy Griffin, but now that Griffin has won a EMMY, she told them to Suck it!

Sherri ain't stupid she know the world is FLAT.

ROTFLMAO, just kidding. Sherri knows the world is round and Whoopi knows Sherri knows it too...this is a matter of faith taught by some ministers of the bible.

The monkey trail is like OJ Simpson...never going to end.

they found four actually. By the way any thought that maybe , just maybe she might have been hired due to her pigment? Ever notice the balance without regard to talent white ,black, hispanic male or female in the "journalistic/infotainment world?

Yeah, they always choose a dumb caucasian with good looks instead of a smart, beautiful black female (or male).

How long before Sherri's canned?

Not because she doesn't know the world is round though that should be the reason, but because her TVQ went down or the ratings skewed dramatically after that broadcast.

Wow, that Barbara Walters turned out to be nothing more than an old whore.

I really couldn't see that one coming.

Belief is a religious concept, speculation, philosophical; theory, however, must be based on testable evidence and, ultimately, be expansive. If dna evidence can send someone to execution or prevent an execution of the innocent; belief is not an issue. The gravity of the evidence returns religious belief to planet earth. That said, evolution scientific theory has been spun into some of the most perniciously racist social speculations of the past 150 years. Social Darwinism is not scientific theory.

Herbert Spencer is not Charles Darwin. It should be called Social Spencerianism, but if it was Spencer would never have sold any books.

Maybe I should write a book called Social Einsteinianism that says everything in society is about my relatives.

I just wrote an email to ABC.

Stupidity on occasion is understandable.

Justifying stupidity is not.

Some of you folks here are trying to justify her stupidity, but you can't.

OMG it is so interesting that this poor girl is able to behave in a seemingly appropriate manner while employing zero intellectual power. I do not believe that I will be a willing viewer of this debacle. Sorry Whoopi.
