Barack Obama unveiled his tax cut plan Tuesday in Washington. Some would call it a Robin Hood approach, taking from the rich and giving to the poor. (Related: Obama tax plan: $80 billion in cuts, five-minute filings)

"At a time when Americans are working harder than ever, we are taxing income from work at nearly twice the level that we're taxing gains for investors," said the Democratic presidential candidate.

Does anyone remember the Book of Lists?

http://tinyurl.com/ynojo3

I remember reading this in 1979, I think. (It was my parents' book.) I distinctly remember reading the list of the top ten corporations that paid no Federal Income Tax that year.

Not only did they not pay any Income Tax whatsoever, several of them were paid REBATES! I remember that Ford and a major airline were on the list at that time.

I can't find it online, but my point is this: if that was happening then, can you imagine how bad it is NOW? How can a company like Ford pay no income tax? (Aren't they considered "people" as well?)

How many ways can you spell 'screwed?'

Am I reading these comments correctly?

Are there really that many people IN FAVOR of CORPORATE TAX LOOPHOLES?

Because from reading many of the comments above, I'd begin to believe that the average American doesn't want Sen. Obama to fix the corporate tax loopholes and instead wants him to keep letting them the biggest and most unscrupulous corporations to evade getting taxed.

"corporate tax loopholes".

Do you think that corporations, the businesses that employ millions of Americans, are some sort of objet consisting not of people but of something else? And, you think "corporations" pay no tax on their profits?

And, you think the taxes you believe they don't pay on their profits would not affect the profits shared by their owners (stockholders) and employees??

Can you define, with specificity, a "corporate tax loophole"?

TAX FAIRNESS would be that douche bags like the Dupont and Hilton families wouldn't be allowed to perpetuate an aristocracy of inherited wealth and power into perpetuity

It does seem like a lot of unearned money pools at the top and is never put to work.

Yes, it would be MUCH better if the government had that money to spend on...oh, say Haliburton.

Good grief.

Liberals still think that taxing "other" people will send that money, magically, to their doorstep. Of course, it won't.

However, the "magic money" that many of you liberals think will suddenly appear on your doorstep will be needed to pay your extra tax burden for your "free" health care.

Don't worry, the democrats will keep you angry and resentful of success.

God bless the troops

funny- it seems to be working fairly well in every other industrialized country in the world

the only "magical thinking" in washington these days is the CON FANTASY
that if we keep flushing money down the toilet in Iraq somehow we will win something.

god bless ignoramuses like yourself - that someday you will all realizes how utterly you have been CONNED by the GOP

Can't lose sight of the fact that all campaign promises are made to get elected. There is no law that holds candidates to fulfilling even 50% of their promises or they are out. Wouldn't that be nice! There is plenty of money in this world to go around. The families who own the Federal Reserve (remember that is a private bank) make billions off us every year. The system is wrong. There should be no starving people in the world. Any attempt to change or even discuss changing the system is met with cries of Socialism or Communism. Of course the media is owned by the same rich monopolists so they control any discussion (barring us peons spouting off on sites like this) concerning change that is not to their benefit. Corporations run the world. Bankers run the corporations. Their goal is to keep the money out of our hands, which is essentially fuedalism. We have become slaves, blinded by surface pleasures like televisions, two week vacations once a year, football games and mall excursions. Not too hard to figure out the average joe is screwed until the system changes. Tax cuts will do no good as an increase of the price of cars, homes, food, etc. will offset any gain (same people own all our infrastructure - water is next). The only way to change things is sacrifice. Sacrifice a year of your life for your children and grandchildrens sake. The sacrifice would be that we all, en mass, not leave your house until our government comes up with a viable solution. No work, no spending, no driving, nothing that gives the slave masters what they need to continue the system. Our life would be hell for a while, but once the bankers see that we will not play the game anymore (and they DO view it as a game) things will change. We can bring them to their knees. We grossly outnumber them. We just need to stand up to them and take care of our people and earth like it should be.

You can let CNN know what you think about their cowardly and dishonest attributing of their opinions to "some people" via this web form:

"WASHINGTON (CNN) " Barack Obama unveiled his tax cut plan Tuesday in Washington. Some would call it a Robin Hood approach..."

Here we go again... casting a Republican pal over a simple story with the "some say" tactic. Hiding by the skirts of fictitious anonymous commenters. Who the hell is "some" anyway?

Say it yourself, or STFU!!! CNN is the author of that comment.

If you are really quoting someone, say who they are!

That goes for CNN and every other broadcaster, politician, or private person.

Pure bullshit. Just one more reason I don't watch CNN anymore. All network news is propaganda.

Robin Hood was no hero. The poor do not deserve a "free ride" on the backs of the working people. That is socialism and it does not work.

Supporting Robin Hood policies like the O-Bomb-ible one will only cause candidates to loose elections.

There is no such thing as a "free lunch,"
Nor free health care,
Nor a free ride to the White House.

Now we can see that the O-Bomb-ible one is the candidate for freeloaders and welfare bums.

Edwards plan is better, but still too socialist.
Hillary"s plan is a give away nightmare for those who do not want to pay their neighbors bills via socialized medicine.

Just imagine the increase in more illegal aliens who come here to get extended welfare and medical benefits. The Democrat's plan will not work. Moderation is absolutely required.

A progressive tax structure is not a "free ride."

It is a moral tax code. Those who have more, can afford to contribute more, and they owe more because they made more money off this economy/society.

Never mind that the very rich and corporations often pay no taxes at all, thanks to Congress creating a new loophole every time a rich person asks for one.

Welfare is another story. Welfare should always be temporary, come with lots of obligations, and be accompanied by a plan (education, job training) to get that person on their feet. Only the legitimately disabled and the legitimately helpless should be on welfare forever - a very few.

Rather than letting Rush, savage and hannity tell you that socialism is bad-try thinking for yourself

The iraq war is a corporate-defense contractor giveaway more than any "socialist" program

It is somewhat refreshing to see ALL the Liberal candidates openly stating they will raise your taxes to pay for 'socialized' programs.

It won't get them elected, but it is refreshing compared to past campaigning, in an historical sense.

What about Healthcare? Everytime this arrogrant
lightweight has to answer a direct question,
he shows that not only is this lightweight
not ready for prime-time, he isn't even ready
for the Senate.
The arrogrance of this guy is astonishing,
he lied to the people of Illinois, the people
he is supposed to represent, when he said,
he would "NOT RUN for President," and he
has done NOTHING for the people of Illinois.
Now he wants to be President, he is a disaster
in the Debates, because he can't answer a direct
question. His canned "hope in a jar" speeches
are rancid, and getting old fast. He needs
to concentrate on doing the work he was sent
to the Senate to do - representing the people
of Illinois, instead of feeding his totally
out-of-control ego. The last thing this
country needs is another "trainee," we have
all seen what the current "trainee" has done.

As a former economics student, it is obvious that this country lost its greatest tax base. First, the corporations started registering their logo in other countries to keep from paying corporate taxes in this country. Then, the filthy rich are given tax breaks to encourage them to spend. Sadly, the consumer base in this country is largely people who make minimum wage or only a bit higher. We can't keep going like this. Obama has a good plan, but the fact is that Bush has plunged us into outrageously massive debt which will take generations to pay, if payment is ever possible. We need to wake up. Bush was fired from his corporate positions after bankrupting those corporations. We must do the same, and fire him for, among other things, bankrupting this country. Impeach before the elections!

Class warfare and pandering have never been much of a plan. When you tie it all to soaking the rich, it NEVER pencils out, though a few votes might be gained on the basis of envy through causing those with padded life-styles to suffer just a little bit. It's an easy plan for Obama to adopt and at least it's not his only plan.

Looking around and hearing what I am hearing
I think the people have not suffered enough
yet. The stuff one hears makes one cringe.
There is no hope yet. The average Joe supports
Bush and his crooks simply because he is in
charge, they never even question anything, don't want to be bothered. We will see.
And we still vote not for issues but for personalities - how sick is that?
