I Like ItI Don’t Like It

As Congress considers a series of bills that would drastically alter the course of the Iraq war, one prominent Republican senator will be focusing his efforts on condemning a newspaper advertisement.

The Huffington Post has learned that Sen. John Cornyn, R-TX, will introduce a sense of the Senate resolution Thursday criticizing MoveOn.org's recent advertisement in the New York Times. The ad called into question the credibility of Lt. General David Petraeus, suggesting the pseudonym "Betray Us."

Cornyn's amendment proclaims that the general "deserves the full support of the Senate." The MoveOn advertisement, Cornyn's legislation states, not only "impugns the honor and integrity of General Petraeus," but "all the members of the United State Armed forces."

Perhaps in hopes of gaining support for his amendment, Cornyn's measure would also "reaffirm support for all the men and women of the United States Armed Forces."

Cornyn's bill comes on the heels of a GOP filibuster of an amendment, put forth by Sen. Jim Webb, D-VA, requiring that troops be given the same amount of time at home as they spend deployed abroad. A call to Cornyn's office to determine whether a vote against his measure would be regarded as a vote against the troops went unanswered.

Read the text of the amendment here.

Just another political hack from Texas trying to whip up a frenzy among the terminally gullible. Am I the only one having flashbacks to the reaction to the Wellstone memorial in which the slitherin' thugs capitalized on the honest outrage of Wellstone's best friend by overwhelming it with their synthetic bogus self-serving outrage at his remarks? And enough seemingly decent Americans bought into it to elect Norm Coleman a US senator?

Where is the anger at the tens of thousands of Americans who have been killed or maimed for no good reason or for the half-million or more Iraqi civilians who made the utimate sacrifice for Bush's folly? Where is the praise for Moveon for forcing the dupes to confront the truth?

Time for everybody (decent Republicans, too, if there are any left) to say that they have had more than enough bullshit from the Bushie camp.

The right wing has a lot of tolerance for bullshit.

Look at the leaders they elect.

Cornyn is also considering a resolution that would make apple pie the official pie of the United States. A third resolution would condemn the majority of American citizens who think this President has been a collossal failure.

Wow, what leadership.

what about the swiftboat ads-will he retroactively censure those.

Obviously Moeon hit the Bullseye-which is why the GOP is soo mad-they know none in this WH has any credibility on Iraq. After no WMD, Saddam gone-the people have the right to question it. It's called free speech.
there was plenty in the cherry-picked date-shot in the front of the head v the back, large bombings not counted, amount of power and water to Iraqis not mentioned...

This is almost as entertaining as Larry Craig showing up on the Senate floor this week. If the Repug machine were not so contemptible and worthy of sentence for war crimes, one might almost feel sorry for them!

Fuck the Repug machine and its boundless hypocrisy.

The way John Kerry stood silent while the questioning student was accosted and electrocuted speaks volumes to what a peace of crap he is.

John you have ton's of money.influence and should not care who you leave on the bar room floor after the fight, just stand and speak the truth. Remember Vietnam? Don't try the I did not know what was going on BS its on film, you lose.

I think you lost your balls in Vietnam. McCain lost his mind. Other their lives!

Alfred E Newman ------- HELP!

Move On is right on.

hehe, good post, and why don't the Republicans criticize the Swift Boaters, especially since only 1 of the many "members" even served on a swift boat??

probably the swift boaters still had more integrity and the ads didn't come out before Kerry sent to vietnam or even before he threw his medals over a fence

Apparently the Representative from TX doesn't realize that by simply acknowledging the fact that the MoveOn.org add hit a nerve, it hits a bigger nerve.

He is doing exactly what they hoped that somebody in the Republican party would do - over-react to it.

I don't agree with the way that MoveOn did the add, but they sure hit the mark. The Republicans are reacting and over-reacting all over the place.

drkazmd--you're exactly right.

Too bad they aren't as incensed about American soldiers dying in Iraq as they are about the moveon.org newspaper ad.

They should save their outrage for something more meaningful. I'm outraged that there are still Republicans in Congress. Cheaters, liars, thieves, pedophiles--the lot of them.

I made my first donation to moveon.org because of this ad. Send the country a message and send Moveon.org a donation today. That would speak louder than this rediculous attempt by the repugnicants

Move on is drawing them in, watch them destroy themselves. What will be really disgusting will be watching the Blue doggers trip all over themselves to back the resolution. Line up the usual traitors, LIEberman,Lincoln,Bayh,Nelson (Neb)... who am I leaving out?

It is very interesting that the Republican Senator from Texas wants to punish MoveOn but is not disputing the claims made in the ad, very interesting indeed!

I think Webb should introduce a measure censuring the GOP as betrayers of the American people.

Say what you must, but the Republicans are still in charge. They control the WH, the Supreme Court, and they have intimidated the Democrats in Congress to the point that no Democratic legislation moves. We'd better stop wasting our time waiting for the Lone Ranger to come riding in .......we need to march on Washington with tar and feathers and run all these assholes out of our buildings.

Let's see U.S. Troops get to come home and rest only a few months before being sent back to the PRESSURE COOKER FROM HELL.
So Republicans want to spend valuable time attacking a WEB SITE that is prsaticing it's FREEDOM OF SPEECH just like the Health Insurance Company can SLAM Dems using their FREEDOM OF SPEECH.
