I Like ItI Don’t Like It

As Congress considers a series of bills that would drastically alter the course of the Iraq war, one prominent Republican senator will be focusing his efforts on condemning a newspaper advertisement.

The Huffington Post has learned that Sen. John Cornyn, R-TX, will introduce a sense of the Senate resolution Thursday criticizing MoveOn.org's recent advertisement in the New York Times. The ad called into question the credibility of Lt. General David Petraeus, suggesting the pseudonym "Betray Us."

Cornyn's amendment proclaims that the general "deserves the full support of the Senate." The MoveOn advertisement, Cornyn's legislation states, not only "impugns the honor and integrity of General Petraeus," but "all the members of the United State Armed forces."

Perhaps in hopes of gaining support for his amendment, Cornyn's measure would also "reaffirm support for all the men and women of the United States Armed Forces."

Cornyn's bill comes on the heels of a GOP filibuster of an amendment, put forth by Sen. Jim Webb, D-VA, requiring that troops be given the same amount of time at home as they spend deployed abroad. A call to Cornyn's office to determine whether a vote against his measure would be regarded as a vote against the troops went unanswered.

Read the text of the amendment here.

You know I bet that there were people calling General Washington, Gerneral Washedup, when he and his troops were "failing" and starving to death in Valley Forge. You are all Torries. And smartstuart, remember what Daniel Boone said, "YOU MAY ALL GO TO HELL, I'M GOING TO TEXAS!"

WOW! I can not believe this story. I do not have an opinion of MoveOn.org's recent advertisement in the New York Times. I shrugged it off as Freedom of Speech. I was neither for or against it, but support MoveOn's right to place that ad.
This idiot, Cornyn, is wasting time and energy over this. Where was he and the rest of the War-Pig republicans when Ted Nugent had some kind words for Hillary and Obama during his concert?
"Renegade right-winger Ted Nugent recently went on a vicious onstage rant in which he threatened the lives of Democratic presidential candidates Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Decked out in full-on camouflage hunting gear, Nugent wielded two machine guns while raging, “Obama, he’s a piece of shit. I told him to suck on my machine gun. Hey Hillary,” he continued. “You might want to ride one of these into the sunset, you worthless bitch.” Nugent summed up his eloquent speech by screaming “freedom!”

All the Right wing-nuts made a big joke of this which I find apprehensible!!! We, as a nation, are in serious trouble.

The Democrats should attach it to a resolution for a timetable to get out of the war and then see if we can get 60 votes. If the Repukes will not allow a resolution on a timetable for the war, the Democrats should not allow this resolution. We, the Democrats, control the agenda. Republicans, for now, do not set the agenda. Are you listening Harry Reid?

The Democrats have a couple of options. Send his amendment to committee where it will wither and die, or threaten a fillibuster and make the GOpers find 60 votes. If the Dems turn their backs on MoveOn, they will have 3 million angry Americans to deal with.

If the Democrats were to cave on this, it wouldn't be the worst thing.

Caving on the expansion of illegal wiretaps was one of the worst things.

But even if the Democrats did cave on this, what really can 3 million angry Americans do about it?

We sure as hell can't vote Republican with their cabal of candidates. We have the religiously-nuttiest to the trigger-happiest morons on that side.

Cornyn simply looks like an ass offering this resolution. 3 million Americans can bombard his office with letters, emails and phone calls.

And MoveOn.org will go on winning progressives into office.

The dual standard applies . . . the GOP can swiftboat; the GOP can buy air time in an attempt to whip up public support for dropping bombs on Iran and Syria for no reason . . . but MoveOn . . . no . . . freedom of speech has to be tightly controlled by the GOP . . . I fail to see how being critical of petraeus's lies for the bush/cheny administration and the oil companies impunes the honour of the servicemen and women who are dying for this illegal invasion of Iraq -- heyho just another GOP scumbag looking for 15 minutes of fame on the back on the dead and the suffering . . .

Oh right, Cornyn can vote for a resolution to criticize a damn ad but can't vote to give our troops equal time at home with their families as was the purpose of the Webb bill. Cornyn, just another lying piece of crap Republican with blood on his hands and more blood to come.

While troops and civilians continue to die without purpose in the quagmire of Iraq, this imbecile wants to be the flower girl in another shameless, jingoistic parade. A large number of GOP reps have no clue why they were elected... it wasn't to advance their own juvenile pathologies.

Someone smack this dullard upside the head...

these CONS are truly out of it, they're still thinking the people are asleep and not aware of their corruption, perversions, downright dishonest behavior.

Hey, GOP, we're mad as hell and we're not going to take it anymore......

there! I feel so much better!

To put it in playground terms a Republican might understand: "They can dish it out but they can't take it."

Why does the GOP hate America? What does the GOP fear from the Constitution of the United States? Those are a couple of simple questions that I would certainly like to hear this idiot Cornyn answer, but I won't be holding my breath.

Cornyn just want to repeal the first amendment.

No big deal for most Americans. They just want to hear about O.J.
