I Like ItI Don’t Like It

As Congress considers a series of bills that would drastically alter the course of the Iraq war, one prominent Republican senator will be focusing his efforts on condemning a newspaper advertisement.

The Huffington Post has learned that Sen. John Cornyn, R-TX, will introduce a sense of the Senate resolution Thursday criticizing MoveOn.org's recent advertisement in the New York Times. The ad called into question the credibility of Lt. General David Petraeus, suggesting the pseudonym "Betray Us."

Cornyn's amendment proclaims that the general "deserves the full support of the Senate." The MoveOn advertisement, Cornyn's legislation states, not only "impugns the honor and integrity of General Petraeus," but "all the members of the United State Armed forces."

Perhaps in hopes of gaining support for his amendment, Cornyn's measure would also "reaffirm support for all the men and women of the United States Armed Forces."

Cornyn's bill comes on the heels of a GOP filibuster of an amendment, put forth by Sen. Jim Webb, D-VA, requiring that troops be given the same amount of time at home as they spend deployed abroad. A call to Cornyn's office to determine whether a vote against his measure would be regarded as a vote against the troops went unanswered.

Read the text of the amendment here.

Remember this is our Texas senator who equates being gay to being a box turtle.

"you might like them but you don't want to live next door to one"

if these repukes keep this up, i going to be giving all my money to move on....

at least they are getting some action.

Americans, this man wants to spy on you without a warrant. He is a traitor.
He would outlaw political dissent if Bush were dictator for life.
Why are Republicans so paranoid?
Criminals usually are.

This will be interesting. It will start a new trend for congress to waste their time, and tax payer money trying to get resolutions passed for every add that they dont like.
Today its Moveon.org, tomorrow, Swift Boats or mothers against drunk drivers, or Americans against might be gay senators tapping in public bathroom stalls.

Who knows what this will escalate to! It could be one of the most ridiculous events to happen in Congress since voting to give Bush untethered power and the right to invade Iraq!

You know, this is such a naked attempt to split progressivism from the Democrats that it is actually humorous. I think the press should be mocking Cornyn.

If Dems attempt to disavow MoveOn, I for one am done with the Dems. Petraeus is a shill and was appropriately called out. Even if one doesn't like the exact wording, the sentiment is accurate.

How long will it be until the media-proper report that the Republican Party is more interested in an advertisement than in an actual war? I'd be laughing if I hadn't seen these whores get away with this so many times already.

Let's give Texas Senator John Cornyn a quid pro quo here. Go ahead and approve the sense of the Senate resolution condemning the newspaper advertisement of the anti-war group, MoveOn.org, with the following demands:

1. George W. Bush must apologize to the citizens of the United States and the families of the killed and wounded U.S. military for waging a preemptive war against Iraq, a war based entirely on lies and deception.

2. The Republican Party and its leader, G. W. Bush, must apologize for the lies and smears against John Kerry who served his country in the Viet Nam War and was awarded a Silver Star, Bronze Star and three Purple Hearts by the United States Navy when the lying, depraved Swift Boat mob accused him of being a traitor to his country and undeserving of his medals.

3. The Republican Party and its leader, G. W. Bush, must apologize to former Senator and decorated Viet Nam War veteran, Max Cleland, when the same lying, depraved smear mongers in that party accused him of being a traitor to his country and a friend of Osama bin Laden.

Then, and only then, should any Senator even consider condemning the ad by MoveOn.org.

Oh pleeeeze - how pathetic can you get? Only a cowardly ReTHUG is more worried about MoveOn than the war, the housing slump, etc etc etc.

Can't wait to see what MoveOn comes up with on this sad old white Texas ReTHUGlican.

What about a resolution condeming the Swift Boat commercials of 3 years ago and while we are at it what about a resolution condeming the failure of our intelligence operation for mis leading the Country into War? What about a generic resolution condeming all those who fail to wash their hands after toileting as being unpatriotic germ spreaders who dont give a care if they spread disease among the unsuspecting, if the disease is bad enough it could be a threat to our national security which would make that treasonous and punishable by firing squad. We need people to hang out in the bathrooms frequented by Senator Cornyn so this can be determined.
Perhaps we should also monitor the Senator from Idaho, after he has visited the men's room his hands could really be a threat to National Security. How much more fun doing this silly stuff instead of dealing with the War The Economy and all that other boring stuff.

It's funny how much energy a ranking Republican, like Senator Cornyn, will put into a resolution as long as there is nothing of substance associated with it.

This enemic maneuver aptly frames the Republican legislative philosophy.

This'll be fun. Can you imagine all the counter resolutions the Dems could introduce? If they had any backbones that is.

What do you propose the Democrats do?
Everytime they try to pass someting in Congress. The Republican block it.
Their plan is to be obstructionist until the next election.
I bet you will see their talking heads out blaming the Democrats for not getting anything done in Congress. It is the Republican MO. They feed you troll the same old BS, and you buy into it everytime

They perceive Move-on as a real threat. That's one of the useful aspects of their attack. The other of course is the bad overall news about Iraq.

The democrats have enough votes to keep it from passing. Democrats want to show real support for the troops by giving them a fair time away from combat. Repukicans only want to show support for gw bush whore general betrayus.

Talk about cheap, conscious distracting spin. This is a new low. Smacks of Karl Rove.
