Associated Press:

The Senate blocked legislation Wednesday that would have regulated the amount of time troops spent in combat, a blow for Democrats struggling to challenge President Bush's Iraq policies.

The 56-44 vote was four votes short of reaching the 60 needed to cut off debate. It was the second time in as many months that the bill, sponsored by Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va., was sidetracked. In July, a similar measure fell four votes short of advancing.

When are the democrats ging to learn the republicans, not matter how much the dems give them, aren't going to give an inch? It's about time the dems fought them, and fought hard now, on everything. Filibuster their bills and give Bush the same bill over and over again on Iraq until he has no choice and funds are cut off for the war.

Correct answer, Steamboater!

It only takes 41 Senators to prevent the appropriation from coming to a vote. Then there's a stalemate, and NO FUNDING until 60 Senators are satisified with the bill.

Senate Democrats have the votes. They need the spines.

Senaate Democrats you need to give Cheney/Bush ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

Just walk outside the senate and deny the senate a quorum, not today, not tomorrow, not the day after that. Let the USELESS repigs sit there with NOTHING TO DO, and unable to leave DC not knowing when democrats end their protest.

Where are those motherfucking "God Bless the Troops" Republican trolls today? Where are those fucking cowards who call us anti-troops and anti America? Where are those maggots?

This why I can never vote for a Republican. This is why I side with the Democrats- because I know that Republican Party is a cancer that can kill America.

This is why it is so important that we defeat these criminals in 2008 and defeat them so badly that their NeoCon wing is destroyed forever.

This is why it is our patriotic duty to defeat Republicans.

If this doesn't wake up the Independents in this country, I don't know what will.

Now how is it Republicans can block and stop things, but Democrats couldnt do shit when they were a minority.
Come to think of it though, now that Dems are the majority, they dont hold up any republican plans anyway.

Yes, I am very disgusted with the way Democrats have turned out after gaining control of congress. I really hoped things would change. And they did, things for Bush got much easier to get done.

Deny the money and starve the war machine. It's the only way the Dems can force this issue. Yet, they won't. I'm tired of trying to figure out why. Can someone smarter than me anwer this?

We must understand that the republicans are just protecting the troops by sending them to IRAQ time and time again. This is what they call "protecting the troops". Who votes for these idiots! Trash?

Ahh,where oh where is lindamart60 telling us how much the left hates the troops?

Conspicuously absent.

The proof is in the pudding,Republicans have proven once again they don't give a rats a** about the troops or their families.

AS MILITARY FAMILYS RECIVED A FREE LUNCH ON THE W/H LAWN THINKING THE PRESIDENT CARED ABOUT THERE LOVED ONES, HE WAS REALY IMFORMING THE REPUBLICANS IN THE CONGRESS AND SENATE TO KILL THE “ WEB / HAGEL BILL OR ELES.
WHY think of the troops when you only have a few months in office IRAQ could fall apart while he was in office, never mater how many U.S. TROOPS MAY FALL IN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS.
Ii DO UNDERSTAND THRE FAMILYS ARE MADE UP OF LIFE MEMBERS ( 29 TO 30 YEAR MEN AND WOMAN ), BUT THEY ARE STILL FLEASH AND BLOOD AND AMERICANS.
AND to me at least to see a man who HIDE when his country called and stilled couldn’t finish his training to me is a :
..................” COWARD “..............
in my thoughts
IT seems he has no trouble making all the MISTAKES AND ERRERS THAT BRING MEN AND WOMAN NEAR OR TO THER DEATH .
AND THIS “WEB / HAGEL BILL SHOWS HE IS ONLY WORRIED FOR HIMSLEF.
I'M ONLY SORRY THAT HE USED MILITARY FAMILYS AS HIS FRONT AS HE WORKED TO KILL THE :
........" WEB / HAGEL BILL "...............

If bush gave a fuck about the troops that he is insisting stay in Iraq forever, he would SHUT DOWN the Ford & GM assembly lines for domestic cars and demand that they work overtime to produce the V bottom IED repelling combat vehicles instead of the deathtrap Humvees our soliders are forced to loose life and limb in.

But wait, that may effect the stock market.

The GOP has forgotten its allegiance to the country that allowed them to get so fat and powerful. It's time to get them out. I once worked for a company that made one too many mistakes. The home office shut down the office, trained an entirely new staff in company policies and started a whole new branch. Perhaps that's what we should do with the Republican party. They're killing us.

This War is all about oil and Bush wants the war to continue so it could enrich he and his friends coffers even more.

The only way, THE ONLY WAY to stop this illegal war is to impeach Bush and Cheney!

Try it, if you can't get beyond a filibuster for relieving the troops of unheard of field extensions, how in hell do you think the dems can get impeachment to fly?
