The federal government has told New York State health officials that chemotherapy, which had been covered for illegal immigrants under a government-financed program for emergency medical care, does not qualify for coverage. The decision sets the stage for a battle between the state and federal governments over how medical emergencies are defined.

The change comes amid a fierce national debate on providing medical care to immigrants, with New York State officials and critics saying this latest move is one more indication of the Bush administration's efforts to exclude the uninsured from public health services.

Why do all these people keep omitting the word "illegal"??
Huffington is didshonest with this headline. These people aren't immigrants, the are ILLEGAL immigrants- that is lawbreakers.

The ONLY entitlement illegal aliens have is a choice between a firing squad and deportation. Feinstein, et. al., talk but do not actually do anything positive about the invasion of terrorists and other illegals and the sleeper cells awaiting orders to murder hundreds of thousand of Americans on American soil. It only takes $25K to a Mexican coyote for a MiddleEastern to enter our country across the fenceless souther border. We Americans demand Senators shut up and get to work securing our borders and deporting illegal aliens. Feinstein and others want to bring in even more illegals with their anti-American D.R.E.A.M. act and the so-called AgJobs act. Enough of this sort of back-door AMNESTY!

Well, it must be hell to be healthy, eh? I betcha those people who make these good business decisions don't feel the pain of cancer eating through you. They don't feel the panic of an impending, horrible death.

And I betcha they go to church on sundays, some of them at least, don't they.

Feck'em.

Ugh.

The immorality of the unchristlike Republican right is testimony to the fact that they have lost their souls to the devil. Their unholy greed, crulety and inhumanity to their fellow men and women are precisely the sins Jesus Christ spoke out against and was crucified for. The political bastardization and exploitation of religion by faux religious Republicans is a mortal sin and a societal nightmare. That anyone who says he or she believes in the teachings of Jesus Christ and follows and or supports such wholly unchristlike actions isn't simply a political hyprocrisy, it is a moral hyprocrisy beyond redemption. Why do these people go to church on Sunday? What moral values are they espousing? What are they teaching their children? Where is the god they claim to worship and love in their everyday lives? Bigotry and avarice are not compatible with Christianity. They are an anathema!

You sound like a learned soul. Can you explain to me WHY adherents to Old Testament "values" (that whole eye for an eye thing...) make such a big whoopdeedoo out of their "Christianity", when, as you so aptly pointed out, they have not accepted Christ's Salvation as key to living in abundance here on Earth?
Granted, it's been a while since my last visit to a church, but I do remember SOME of my McCredie Methodist Church Sunday School larnin'.

Well, truth be told, there is no hell. There is no heaven, purgatory, limbo or any other spiritual safety net for either good people (Bush is going to hell) or believes (I am going to heaven).

There is only LEGACY.

I, with millions (billions?) of others will ensure that Bush's legacy will be remembered as the greatest HELL this nation has ever inflicted on the world.

There is only LEGACY, George, and the few seconds of consciousness before you pass out finally, when you realize you really pissed on the world when you had the chance to allow it to flourish. Bastard.

Ugh.

I am a natural born citizen. I have a job, I pay taxes--social security and medicaid etc--I have no criminal record and don't do anything illegal. I have no health insurance and I couldn't get chemotherapy either. Hard for me to sympathize in light of this.

Good Old American Hospitality is still strong and going.

BUT tell me how you would be as far as hospitality if you came home and there were seven people in your house demanding your food, your bed and your clothes.

Would it be different if those same 7 people showed up at the front door and politely asked for help?

YOUR DAMNED STRAIGHT IT WOULD!

Americans will give you the shirt off their backs if you ask, but when you demand don't be surprised at the reaction.

What happened to good old American hospitality? Oh right, it was outsourced to China.

...after first outsourcing it to Indonesia, then Thailand, then to the Marianas...sense a pattern here?

Gives a whole new meaning to "Made in Maraka", don't it?

No one ever mentions how health care at that fancy-schmancy "state of the art" hospital in Iraq will be paid for. Given all the other total-capitalist schemes forced on the country, it's a safe bet that ONLY those who can afford to pay or can afford to buy obscenely expensive health insurance will be accepted for treatment - the poor will just have to die in the gutters the way they always have.

"Compassionate conservatism", my Aunt Fanny.

Those are just little details that will sort of work itself out.

What does it tell about our society when we are willing to pay 20 billion a month to kill, maim and destroy people. But helping people is just flat out wrong.

Am I the only one who sees something horribly wrong with this??

It seems that GW and Laura Bush wanted to build a state-of-the-art children's hospital (http://www.nytimes.com/2006/07/28/world/middleeast/28basra.html?_r=1&n=Top/News/World/Countries%20and%20Territories/Iraq&pagewanted=print&oref=slogin)in Iraq, but want to deny coverage to cancer victims here at home. Why is that?
