The intense pursuit of money in the presidential campaigns and the many wealthy Americans working at hedge funds and other businesses worldwide have led candidates to broaden fund-raising overseas, especially financial centers like London and Hong Kong.

This week, Rudolph W. Giuliani appeared at a fund-raiser at a hotel near Hyde Park in London. Mr. Giuliani is to be followed there next month by the spouses of Senators Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York and Barack Obama of Illinois. This year, Mr. Obama joined financial supporters in Beijing via a videoconference to shake the overseas money tree.

Since the US dollar has gone down the toilet-you have to get Euros to pay campaign costs. It's probable that the Mexican peso will reach parity with the US dollar by 12/8/07 thanks to W & Co.

People rarely give you money unless you're selling something. There are lots and lots of 'mercans who need stuff. Stuff from their politicians, like health care, an intact 1st amendment, help when our cities collapse. But the pols are going fishing for cash abroad now. Hmmm. I wonder what the pols are selling them? Promises to invest in their arms manufacturers, or access to the spoils of our never-ending wars? Maybe a cut of the oil when we are safely the sole providers once more (after the pesky brown people are properly democratized and vote that the oil is 'merica's to sell).

Money = speech. No taxation without representation. So foreigners are speaking to 'merican politicians and thereby gaining representation in the 'merican Houses of Congress.

And MoveOn got censured last week.

This system is so ^%*^# broken.

Are you sure it's still a democracy?

Yes, you do need real Democrats in office. You need to attend to your primaries and vote out the pseudo Dems who vote with Republicans as a rule and on principle.

You have men - like former Senator Zig Zag Miller - who attended the 2004 GOP National Conventions and worked against the party nominee, his "colleague" Senator Kerry. Then there are the two Nelsons from NE and FL. You may describe their politics as "Democratic" but I would rather describe it as Republican neocon-lite, and their votes reflect it.

Jeff Cohen:
Senate Clown Show

A defense of Gen. David Petraeus against a MoveOn.org newspaper
ad. The resolution expressed "full support" for the general and
condemned "personal attacks on the honor and integrity of General
Petraeus and all members of the United States Armed Forces."

Yupppp were still up shit creek even after dem's taking over the
congress - They can not even see the diff between ""personal attacks""
and attacks on a political hack ""Disastrous Mistakes in Iraq""

190,000 missing gun's under Bush-Cheney-Rummy-Petraeus ....

But let's not go over his past mistake's but let's look at the -
Disastrous Mistakes he has made since the surge - making deals to
passify the insurgents and have them help fight osama - has left the
southern and northern flank wide-open - the south is breaking down -
the north is sending some of those missing weapons into Turkey - Bagdad
has been made a segregation zone - The North want's a new country ....

So contrary to repub's beliefs - That This Petraeus - General Grant -
reincarnated - I am here to tell them "personal stake here" That Pet-R-Us
- General - Is no General Grant ...

Re-Writting History and a book on one element of fighting a war - Is
not what a good general make's ...

Exactly when did the founding father's write in the Constitution - WE
The People shall vote for the most stupid-idiotic person's - we can find
to put in congress ???

Arctic sea ice melts to its lowest level ever
By Michael McCarthy, Environment Editor
Published: 22 September 2007
The sea ice of the Arctic shrank to its lowest-ever level this week, shattering the previous record, set two years ago, by an enormous amount, American scientists have confirmed.

In what will be widely seen as one of the most alarming signs yet of accelerating global warming, the summer melt-back exceeded the September 2005 low point by 22 per cent " an area of 1.2 million square kilometres " more than 385,000 square miles. This represents an area five times the size of the UK.

Hey, you left out the weekly activities of your Number One spokesman, Green AL.

In Austrailia where he berated Bush & Howard for their policies; of course it cost $1,000 to attend the event or $25,000 per person if you wanted to "meet & greet" Fat Al.

Jimmu Swaggart & Jimmy Bakker were rank amateurs compared to Gore.

'Here I am.' Castro's TV rebuff to US death rumours

Ewen MacAskill in Washington
Saturday September 22, 2007
The Guardian

Fidel Castro gave his first television interview for three months yesterday, dispelling speculation that he was close to death or even that he had died.
He looked alert, referring to the price of oil and the value of the dollar, and quoting Thursday's closing prices. "Here I am," he said. "Nobody knows when he is going to die."

So, tell me again why people in this country would be opposed to campaign finance reform. Oh that's right, because it would cost more tax dollars, and saving our democracy just isn't worth it. Now, our politicians will not only be selling out the American people to wealthy corporations, but to foreigners as well. Face it, it's a crappy system, and it's not working. This notion that our elected representative should be spending 90% of their time (actualy I don't know the exact percentage, except that it's high) raising money so they can be reelected is absurd. They were elected to do the people's work, at least that's what we've always been told. Looks like to me that we've just about lost our democracy.

I Have a question boy's and girl's ???

If God by any-name he is called - Stands for truth
- and those against him - called by any-name stands
for lie's ...

Then if a war fought on LIE'S - is determined to win a war
of lie's - then is that not a victory for the liar called
by any-name ???

But what if there was a way - To right that lie - and make it
a victory for truth ???

Then one could not keep following the course of the lie - and
must turn to the truth - To make thing's right - would they not ???

Is it not Amazing how all the books of truth - Speaks of turning
from a LIE - and the return to the truth ???

Many of us, for example on C & L, are not going to give to either of the parties or individual candidates. Instead, we are giving to organizations like MoveOn and the ACLU and others who are being effective while the Congress is not. I hope this global groveling for bucks is an indication that the money from citizens back home is drying up.

TAPE two pennies to their IDIOTIC surveys (who writes that shit?), place it in that PREPAID envelope and send it back to them!

Once past the headline, this really is a non issue. As some have stated, campaign contributions from Americans overseas has been going on for quite some time. How else would you do it if you are living abroad.

From the article:

By the end of June, the candidates had raised a combined total of $551,000 abroad, compared with $31,525 at the same point in 2003 and nearly $1 million for the entire election cycle.

The increase appears driven by factors like the ease of donating on the Internet, a diaspora among financial workers in an increasingly global economy and the unending needs of campaigns to cast as wide a net as possible.

****************

Our real concern should remain on the ease and frequency with which this administration is allowing foreign companies to buy American assets and resources. Though the one port deal was averted, hundreds of other smaller projects have gone ahead. Google foreign ownership US roadways. Or on our growing debt, especially to China, who is now, in turn, selling our debt to other countries.

Shady financial contributions usually are found out eventually; preventing the continued sale and deconstruction of America is what we need to keep at the front of our representatives minds.
