President Bush again called Democrats "irresponsible" on Saturday for pushing an expansion he opposes to a children's health insurance program.

"Democrats in Congress have decided to pass a bill they know will be vetoed," Bush said of the measure that draws significant bipartisan support, repeating in his weekly radio address an accusation he made earlier in the week. "Members of Congress are risking health coverage for poor children purely to make a political point."

This program is the last trace of assistance for middle class families, two income families, and those who make enough to live but not enough to afford the massive healthcare costs. The people wait for months, sometimes years, to get on this program once they qualify, and the premiums are not cheap. This is not a free-ride program, and it is necessary if our children are to get medical help. It seems that Bush is now pushing the middle class through the cracks. For a man with "moral values on human life", he sure doesn't show it. This is not his country, it is ours, and this man has never had to live hand-to-mouth the way the majority of us do. We have an administration being run by a spoiled brat who is not in this by the issue, it is his arrogant need to prove that he can get what HE wants, and damn the country! Every cent we have, and are borrowing, is going into Iraq. Bush is an arrogant fool who is ruining this country as sure as he ruined the companies he ran. Where is Kitty Kelly with an unauthorized biography of King George, failing grades, AWOL military record, drug test results (including those which went missing), and all the other things we already know to be true. The south relies on this Texan. Get over it -- that's a lie, too. This self-serving twit is a Connecticut Yankee!

I guess he must have missed the bits in the Bible about helping the poor.

I wonder what Goad and Jesus have in store for us to repay us for for our greed and selfishness.

EXACTLY what "greed and selfishness" would that be?

A country which has spent 11 trillion dollars attempting to eradicate poverty (or buy votes, depending upon one's perspective) & that still has the same "poverty percentage" it had when the Failed Society began?

Remember President Reagan's famous quote: "The worst thing that can happen to an American is to answer his doorbell and find a man standing there saying 'I'm from the government, and I'm here to help.'"

Amazing! We can spend all that money in Iraq; which the majority of Americans are opposed to, yet we can't take care of the health America's future generation. And for Bush to utter the words "too costly" when it comes to the health care of American children is completely mind boggling. We can saddle the next two generations with debt to cover a war that the majority of Americans opposed but we can't afford to make certain that there is a next generation to pay the debt. This is where politics and accounting part ways.

hmmmm if we need something like 42 billion dollars over 10 yrs for this healthcare coverage for poor children.

and the war on Iraq is costing 3 billion dollars a week.

so if we weren't pissing 3 billion dollars a week into the Iraq money pit we'd have the entire 10 yr. healthcare plan paid for in 14 weeks.

sounds like a bargain to me.

Bush is clearly showing the true face of his "Compassionate Conservatism", an oxymoron of the first order, once and for all!

I think a lot of people don't realize is that Bush is not in his position to save lives or make the world a better place. He is in this to kill people, cause chaos, and generally make the world a more dangerous place. It's working, too.

The modern conservative is engaged in one man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

Bush needs to think this through...of course thinking is the real problem here.

Bush cares deeply about health care for the children of America. After all, he will need more of them for future armies to fight the 'evil' doers of the world. Since most of the troops don't come from the well-to-do of our society you would think that he would want as many of them as possible to be healthy enough to the wear the uniform and to fight in wars that he himself was too chicken to handle himself.

Think George...think!

How is it a "risk" to give children health care...it's rediculous...and they are funding in it with a CIGARETTE tax...it's not like they are raising income taxes...the only people this will affect are smokers, and as a smoker, I don't mind paying extra money if it is paying for children's health insurance...i can't believe people would get so worked up about this!

WHAT reality does Georgie live in? This statement shows that he knows very little about the people he is suppose to represent. Apparently, when he speaks he only speaks to the rich!

REMEMBER, THE EXECUTIVE BRANCH OF OUR GOVT does not make the rules/laws, your wonderful, action packed Congress/Legislature does.

Where did you go to school? Were you absent that day?
