2007-09-22-Castrolives.JPGRumors of his death have been greatly exaggerated: Fidel Castro appeared on Cuban television Friday afternoon, alive and well — despite repeated claims that he was muerto made by blogger Perez Hilton.

Hilton, as you may recall, swore up and down that Castro was, in fact dead — something he was ABSOLUTELY SURE ABOUT thanks to his super-secret high-level "exclusive" and "impeccable" intelligence sources — you know, the ones that no other news organization had.

Castro has not been seen live for fourteen months and was last televised back in June. However, this video was clearly shot yesterday because, as reported by the Chicago Tribune, "Castro noted that the euro was trading at $1.41 and that the price of petroleum is $84 a barrel, proof that the interview was recorded earlier Friday." Castro also held up a copy of a number of books, including the just-released book by former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan, "The Age of Turbulence" from which he read aloud. Upshot: Yep, he's alive!

Even so, today Hilton stubbornly stood by his story:

We've seen him wearing that outfit soooo many times. We're not going to believe he's still alive until he takes a nice stroll through Havana. Live. Not in some pre-taped video. And only if he's accompanied by an independent news organization, like the Associated Press.

Oh, sure, now he's picky about where he gets his news.

2007-09-22-CastrolovesAlanGreenspansales.jpgUpdate, and photo evidence: We just received this AP photo of Castro holding Greenspan's book, forwarded by HuffPo reporter Max Follmer. So! We shall see what Perez has to say about that. But also, look closer: There's a 30% off sticker on the cover. Castro loves sales! Capitalist sales! Viva la Cuba libre — and other things for libre, too! This may be the best photo of Castro taken ever. We can't wait to see what Perez Hilton draws on it.

Nobody's answered.

Here's another chance.

Why are so many risking their lives daily to escape the utopia Castro has created?

Does the great health care and living conditions push them away?

Suffocating with love, no doubt.

The US is like a vulture waiting for Castro to
die so they can send in the CIA once again and
put the Mafia there and a Batista like dictator!
I am sure we have the lazy Cubans in Florida here for a reason and just perhaps Castro got rid of them and the US is paying them money.
Who wants to listen to those folks who cost us
money? True, CIA tried several times to assassinate Cuba, the Bay of Pigs Incident was
another incident the US invented, read history!
Also the CIA was successful in killing the fetus of his baby of his first wife, when they
kidnapped her. Now why would they do that???
Castro saved the Cubans from the US Mafia and
this horrible Batista - what is wrong with you guys?

Good . . . very happy to hear it . . . the fact that the US still is so anti-Castro is absurd . . . American foreign policy is too much influenced by special interest groups . . it's time to drop the embargos against Cuba . . .more than time

And if the embargoes were dropped, I'm sure the left would be screaming how its a policy pushed by the smoking lobby to get the supposedly superior tobacco leaves into the US markets legally.

Anywhere Fidel showed up in Latin America, the people would yell, "Fi-del! Fi-del! Fi-del!" A popular slogan was "Fidel, amigo, el pueblo esta contigo!" (Fidel, friend, the people are with you!)

Don't listen to the haters who show up in disproportionate numbers on these threads to badmouth a great man. People the world over revere Fidel Castro as a towering figure, a revolutionary leader.

It is so good to see Fidel Castro doing well.

It is funny, but everytime I see picture of a foreign leader holding a book, I recall that picture of Bush reading My Pet Goat.

Isn't it strange that George W. Bush is using "history will absolve me" as his main argument now a days? That's Fidel Castro's title for his defense during the trial after the 26th of July attack on the Moncada barracks which initiated the Cuban Revolution. Is it a sign of Castro (pennis) envy?

Even Barbara Walters poked fun at her old boyfriend, scoffing at Al's real estate record on "The View" this week. Walters recounted how Greenspan convinced her not to buy a Fifth Avenue apartment in the mid-'70s because it was a "bad investment."

All "isms," tend to be sponsored by the same globalist financial interests to "divide and conquer." All the wars, all the conflicts, profit the central banks. So who is Castro fooling, who is Chavez fooling?

Apparently this "divide and conquer," strategy gives a certain latitude to ideologues such as Castro, but it is a long term strategy so losing a little debt that Cuba would have produced under "capitalism," is nothing to these people. In the old days war was about gathering booty. Now it is about financing wars and generally unpleasant conflicts of "ideology." The object is more debt, more middle ages feudalism, and pottage for all.

Go ahead and read Greenspan if you want, but his actual mission is far different from what you read in his book. As much power as he appears to exercise, he is beholden to other interests. These powers allow Castro and Cuba only a temporary reprise as a wedge and gathering ground of controversy. The aims of communism are a "central bank worldwide," so what is the difference?

Face it the problem is freedom against tyranny not left versus right.

Haiti is another example of US hate.

This started after the slave uprising in the eighteen hundreds and
persist even to today.

Ever wonder why an island could have two different economic sides
one successful and one a third world.

US .

Castro and Cuba have been punished for defying the US.
The Cuban economy is held under water by the US.

You a free citizen ?, of the US can't even visit Cuba.

This is corporations display of the their vindictive nature and political power.
Castro took over US company's in Cuban and has been hunted ever since
by the US.

The US has openly admitted they have tried to assassinate him several times.
The US has even used the mafia to try to kill him. How is it that our government has a business relationship with the mob. The same people and mentality who set us up for war in Iraq are still in charge.

All the above and more is what drove Castro to the USSR at the time for survival
and money.

Being a native (born and raised) in Miami, I can tell you that it has been and is run by the Batista mob .

Just look at Miami. It is the first fascist city in the US. The rest of the country is catching up to what we have experienced for years.

Gotta agree with that. It is tragic to read some of these comments. The Cuban Americans have lived in a ghetto and dreamt of the day they can go back to their estates and get good servants. In the meantime, there is just a whole lot of behavior that is unAmerican. Or maybe it is American. The Bay of Pigs was a sort of foreshadowing of the invasion of Iraq. But it wasn't for oil. It was to get those people who longed for the warmth and the servants and the cigars they used to have.

Castro is Livin, and LOVIN it! After hundreds of attempts by the Bush Family, not the least of which the Bay of Pigs, when Bush 41's supplied the 3 covert support ships named the Zapata, Houston, and Barbara failed, and despite that even while it was going on Dulles tried to Blackmail JFK into American Fighter and Bomber support (trying to force another World War). Now, Fidel is seeing America's own democracy assassinated be ruled by a more reckless and dangerous tyrant than he ever could hope to be: George Bush and Comapany. All these Bushites out on the book tours and lecture/speaking circuits have got to be very amusing and uplifting for him personally, to see their corrupt handiwork, its probably giving him New life everyday, as more is exposed for the Fasctist they really are. Ah, the mighty power of the written word over the sword.
