She may have won an Oscar for her dignified and regal portrayal of the Queen and won the hearts of British TV viewers as hard-bitten DCI Jane Tennison in Prime Suspect.

But Dame Helen Mirren has revealed a much wilder streak behind the perfectly poised exterior.

For she has admitted she took the hallucinogenic drug LSD while she was a jobbing actress in her 20s.

It was the sixties, if you were in an artist community and didn't at least try drugs, you were probably in the minority.

At least she didn't give a lame, "But I didn't inhale" style of excuse. She admits freely to what she did and says not to follow her. That takes courage and a personal sense of honor to do that.

And regarding her saying it was really great and frightening because of that, a lot of others have said the same things. If it sucked, it wouldn't be so horrifyingly addictive.

So FUCKING WHAT? Give me one good reason why I should care about this or why it's any of my business?

Once you have peaked behind the curtain, you can never take any of this, including yourself, too damn seriously.

Would that the whole wide world of humankind, especially its greedy leaders would take the trip just once. It might just change the world. It couldn't be more of a bummer than it is right now.

who cares about seeing her tripping on LSD? Let's see her naked in some "Caligula" stills!

Big deal. An entire generation was on acid. It was even being used experimentally in the medical community. At least she didn't go AWOL from a National Guard commitment as a closet druggie and disappear into the woodwork later to pretend nothing had ever happened.

What's the point of this? So she took LSD in her twenties, and so did a lot of other well known people and many others who aren't famous. So what!

Gee... a hot actress, who started in the 60's, did drugs and LSD?

File this under the "No Duh" department.

Where's the proof? She admitted she did it.

Why do they have to have diarrhea of the mouth and pen, when they become famous. I kind of liked her as she is today. Even though those were the days, why bring it up in public. Nothing is gained by it. I guess she figured as much trash as happens to be already out there , it can't hurt to add some more .Does she consider her husband, relatives exposing her past drug issue, when it is as popular as a rat in cloakroom. Feather head.

Might just as well title it, " This is Dame Helen
Mirren after an afternoon of great sex."
What a silly story. The photo proves nothing.
She is a wonderful actress.The story doesn't
detract anything from this fact.
The lengths people will go to for a non story.

Mirren should make no apologies for taking acid back in the day; jkbowman has a point when he suggests all this may be nothing but a grand illusion, the acid just helps expose it.

This is a non-issue, Arianna, get over it. You must be really devastated that the Weekly World News went under.

Wouldn't it be wild if we all woke up one day and realized all we'd really been doing all this time was looking in a mirror?

He pitched a no hitter in 1970 on LSD, perhaps the greatest achievement in baseball history? (My personal favorite baseball story at least)

"I was zeroed in on the (catcher's) glove, but I didn't hit the glove too much. I remember hitting a couple of batters and the bases were loaded two or three times. The ball was small sometimes, the ball was large sometimes, sometimes I saw the catcher, sometimes I didn't. Sometimes I tried to stare the hitter down and throw while I was looking at him. I chewed my gum until it turned to powder. They say I had about three to four fielding chances. I remember diving out of the way of a ball I thought was a line drive. I jumped, but the ball wasn't hit hard and never reached me." - Dock Ellis in Lysergic World (1993)

Holy cow! I read Huffington everyday, and am not always fond of what I read, but why the heck was space wasted on this meaningless story? I happen to love Mirren and could care less what she did 40+ years ago, but aside from that, please tell me that Huffington isn't really becoming Paris'ized. We have enough of that waste taking up space in the MSM.
