The shooting deaths of 11 Iraqis and wounding of 12 more, allegedly by private security contractors working for Blackwater USA, has become a case of "he says, she says" in Iraq.

Blackwater claims that the convoy of U.S. embassy officials they were escorting in western Baghdad came under attack, and they returned fire at insurgents.

Democracy Now with Amy Goodman has been documenting the lawlessness of mercenaries (paid for by U.S. taxpayers) in Iraq and elsewhere, for years. Read Jeremy Scahill's accounts. Especially his latest book on, specifically, Blackwater, run by a fundamentalist christian, Erik Prince.

Iraq has rescinded the license for Blackwater to operate there. They thumbed their noses at the "soveriegn entity", as Bush so nicely put it, and kept doing their thing.

Cheney has a mercenary force in place, and they don't have to follow ANY rules, such as military procedure...they can shoot and kill at will, and blame it on everybody else. Hell, there's so many factions killing each other and US soldiers, you can blame any one of them.

This is absolutely disgusting, and those who support and pay these armed loons should be marching in front of them. Oh, oh, WE are paying for them, aren't we?

A grunt has to obey orders, work for very little money and can't get home for some R&R when he/she needs it. The Blackwater force does not follow any rules. Just like that bastard Cheney.

And the world sits and quietly watches them do it.

Cut off their money and see how long it takes them to bite the hand that formerly fed them.

I've been wondering how long it would take for the activities of these mercenary forces to start hitting the mainstream media. There have been many many reports of unprovoked attacks on civilians.

Perhaps things will change when people begin to realize what we've unleashed. Of course it will all be too late...

Where is the video. We can judge for ourselves. If Black water did shoot innocent people without provocation, the individual shooters should be prosecuted, the victims families compensated and the company kicked out of Iraq.

The problem is that they are legally immune from prosecution for their actions in Iraq. No matter what.

We set it up that way, too:

Under a law signed in 2003 by Paul Bremer, then the head of the Coalition Provisional Authority, contractors have blanket immunity from local jurisdiction. So far no American security contractor has been prosecuted in the United States or Iraq.

"There are 20,000 to 30,000 private security contractors in Iraq guarding the U.S. embassy and other civilian agencies."

Well, now that's IS odd.
Most accounts I've read have listed as many as 180,000 private contractors in Iraq.

Makes sense. Perhaps this is why Bush is not allowing the troops to get a break -- because there are only 30 thousand of them. The rest are mercenaries, some in company uniforms, the rest in Army uniforms.

This war is Company-run.

According to this Guardian story:

'Blackwater is one of three private security firms employed by the State Department to protect its personnel in Iraq, and a decision to force it to pull out would create tremendous difficulties for the U.S. government. There are 48,000 of the private security contractors in Iraq, according to the Government Accountability Office.'

'The two other firms, both of which are headquartered in the Washington, D.C., suburbs, are Dyncorp, based in Falls Church, Va., and Triple Canopy, based in Herndon, Va.'

How long will it take for these morons who continue to support Bush to realize that this is a war for profit?

What's it going to be like when these monsters who are now shooting people for sport in Iraq come back to our country?

...who call America "home," ohhellno. Bush's private army just may become America's worst nightmare (not including the Bush administration).

"Contractors" includes scores of thousands who were hired to drive trucks, mop floors, cook meals, and build those "honest-injun-cross-our-hearts-they're-not-permanent" bases.
