Minister Buys Atheist's Soul On eBay

Hemant Mehta was raised in the Jain faith (a religious tradition rooted in India), but became an atheist as a teen. Now in his twenties and a high school math teacher near Chicago, he is active in many groups that promote secularism.

In early 2006, Mehta auctioned himself off on eBay to a Protestant minister, agreeing to attend a variety of church services and remain open to their messages. Mehta spoke with Beliefnet recently about his book, which describes his impressions of those churches, and why he's still an atheist.

Reading this blog makes one thank god that one is an atheist and for the literate atheist prose of Christopher Hitchins. All too often we atheists have the writing skills of the man who sold his soul. This blog is as dull as THE UPPER ROOM & the bulk of what is called devotional literature. Perhaps there is something to navel contemplation-if you contemplate Paris Hilton's navel.

Ok, so a couple of years ago I was working as a photo-journalist for a smalltown paper. I'm sent to cover a cycling event put on by a largely ultra-Baptist (fundie-lite) group. I show up, introduce myself, and ask the small group of sacred-cyclists to line-up for a couple of pictures. One of them said, half-jokingly, "You can't take my picture...you'll capture my soul!", to which the pastor in attendance quickly blurted "That's not true!" without a trace of feigned outrage. Altogether way too serious.

I obviously didn't want to get into a discussion about spirit photography with such a devout gentlemen, so I could do nothing but smile politely, turn to the person beside me and say quietly "damn, I was just about to sell him his soul back!"

Don't tell me Christians don't have a sense of humour, especially in regards to themselves...he laughed like it was the funniest thing he'd heard all week. I wish there were more like him.

Alas, i believe he may be the rare exception. I currently live in a very pleasant small town in "NoCal" Redneckery and fundiehood are rampant, slightly counterbalanced by the "New Agey" types.

While some of the "true believers" may have a bit of humor re non "religious" matters, they grow amazingly humorless, and defensive, if they feel their "credos" are under scrutiny.

To examine this phenomenon from a "wider" perspective, the psychopaths who own the planet realized that their "divide and conquer" strategy re the "peasants" could be exponentially empowered by setting the different groups against one another. Very easy to do with the not too aware.

You have to hand it to the NWO, while they are homocidal psychopaths they do have intelligent insights when it comes to agendas associated with "own and control" Hopefully, many of them will suffer the horrible deaths they deserve, at the earliest possible moment :))
