Couric Slams Rather: "Sloppy Work Is Sloppy Work"

Couric also weighed in on the lawsuit recently filed by Dan Rather against CBS, in which Rather alleges he was unfairly squeezed out of CBS by network executives following a controversial 2004 story about President George W. Bush's Texas Air National Guard service record. After evidence emerged that the story's primary documents were either faked or forged, Rather stated on air that "if I knew then what I know now, I would not have gone ahead with the story as it was aired, and I certainly would not have used the documents in question."

Couric took Rather to task for his reporting. "There were things in there that were quite egregious in terms of how it was reported," she said. "And sloppy work is sloppy work...They did not dot their I's and cross their T's when it came to that story...And our job is to get right."

raker, I know exactly what you mean. I stopped watching because I can watch one of those gossip shows and get some of the same news. They are so geared to young audiences they aren't reporting real news anymore. It's a complete waste of time!!!

She said something I disagree with. I honestly believe it's a lie. I don't believe any of those people were mislead about the war. If I knew better how come the best minds in the US were "mislead"? They are lying because I am no intellect by any means!!

Katie if I want an in depth report on a colonoscopy than you are the goto person. But let's not pretend that after decades of reporting on bake sales and the latest diet makes you an expert on anything other than fluff. You are a lightweight Katie and it is not because you are a woman. Some of the best reporters in journalism today are women. You just aren't one of them. You spent your whole life being superficial and now you want people to take you seriously? Please. I think there is a cat stuck in a tree somewhere requiring your immediate attention.

Besides the day may come when you will need the support of your fellow news journalists and being the corporate stooge now may not buy you very much goodwill later. Not everyone is as vacuous and self-absorbed as yourself.
