Rather Gives "The Impression He Will He Will Call The President As A Witness"

First Posted: 03/28/08 03:45 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 01:15 PM ET

DC Examiner :

Former "Evening News" Dan Rather choked back tears on several occasions today when discussing his decision to file a lawsuit against CBS and he left many audience members with a sense that he may call President George W. Bush as a witness should the lawsuit proceed to trial (and Rather said he hoped it would).

When asked by Carol Joynt, host of the "Q&A Café" held at Nathans restaurant who worked with Rather at CBS in the 1970s, whether "he'd like to" call President Bush as a witness in the trial, Rather said "I'd like not to answer the question," leaving both Joynt and audience members wondering whether the newsman has Bush in his sights." Joynt later told Yeas & Nays, "From the look in his eye -- and he gave me a definite Ratheresque look -- I got the impression he will call the president as a witness. Possibly both of them: 41 and 43. He implied the suit is not against them, but what the suit is about stems directly from his antagonistic relationship with them."

Oh for pete's sake. This is just sad. Well, why not, go for it, Dan. Good luck to you, hope you get the money.

Just as we all know, O.J. Simpson is guilty. We also know that Bush dodged the Vietnam War due to the influence of his father.

PLEASE - Would the person(s) who can prove Bush got a pass on Vietnam and was AWOL from the Air National Guard come forward?

Don't you mean you want someone credible to come forward and prove he WASN'T AWOL?

The dullard has everyone thinking backwards after seven years of his malapropisms, congenital brain dysfunction and Rovian spin.

You willing to wait for people to "come forward" and prove you WEREN'T a drug dealer, twenty years ago?

We can and should hope for some justice. Go, Dan!

Otherwise, we will all be long dead, when historians discover the proof of Boo-sh's lies and how he was, in
fact, NEVER ELECTED PRESIDENT OF THE USA.

Huffpost, please print today's artice in Salon. All posters should get to read this without having a subsription.

It is well written, factual and a very important article.

Oh, wow. Any chance the trial could be delayed until after Bushie leaves office? Like maybe, a drawn-out discovery process?

If he gets a subpoena before then, he'll just ignore it on the grounds of some b.s. like executive privilege. But a guy clearing brush in Crawford has no special privileges.

Read Sidney Blumenthal's take on this at Salon.com. Whereas the Dems have rolled over and played dead on smacking down Bush, Rather has a chance to even up the ante on the truth about Bush's Air National Guard record...:

In making his case, Rather will certainly establish beyond reasonable doubt that George W. Bush never completed his required service in the Texas Air National Guard. Moreover, Rather's suit will seek to demonstrate that the documents used in his "60 Minutes II" piece were not inauthentic and that he and his producers acted responsibly in presenting them and the information they contained -- and that that information is true. Indeed, no credible source has refuted the essential facts of the story.

Can Dan finally blow the lid off of Bush's cover? Expose his cowardly ducking of service? Stay tuned!

I can hear Bush on the witness stand right now:

"I don't recall.....I don't recall.....I don't recall...."

I've been fired twice for better reasons than Rather. Got two weeks pay, ... and six months before I could find a new job.

Sympathy for Dan? Nope. Was the story true? Nobody has said it wasn't, ... and if the shoe fits. But that is not good enough, not for Network News, ... and Dan vouched for the facts, ... and came up short.

America's dying here, Dan. Promise me you'll donate your $ 70 Million to PFAW if you win, and I'll march down Pennsylvania Avenue.

Way I see it is it's a fight between a big shot and a bunch of bigger shots that don't give a damn for the truth as much as for a contract and the dollars to go with it.

SCHIP, ... That's something the American People care about. Kids dying of tooth decay, ... In America? Yeah, ... we've hit a low Dan, and CBS. Why don't you swells take it to the back alley and settle it there, ... while I treat this little girl over here with asthma.

Don't give a damn how the lawsuit ends up. Not as long as there are kids dying in the meanwhile.

Everyone knows the crap to smear Dan was orchestrated by Turd Blossom...let's get real here...fired a day after Bush was elected? I mean, come on, get past the silliness and get with the program. His suit is valid...he'll never get Asshole In Chief to testify, but it should be an interesting trial...take them to the cleaners, Dan.

C'mon, WrappedAroundMyAxle... spit up the names of Imbecile's Air Guard contemporaries who "came forward" and testified he was "there". Did they testify in mime, and only to radio reporters?

Lying asshole.

Oooh, typewriter!

Oooh, fraudulent document!

All the wingnut trollies obsessed, to the point of flop-sweat, with that single controversial document and the usual array of talking points -- furiously nibbling around the edges of the issue like frantic rodents, bleating "libruls" the whole way...

But not one -- not a SINGLE fucking one -- has posted so much as a shred of documentation REFUTING the underlying truth of the original Rather report.

... which helps to explain why, as the criminal Iraq debacle falls like a house of cards, this dwindling crust of morons continues to cheer the occupation in tight formation, their soiled, matching leotards torn from the effort of jumping up and down and waving their stubby little arms.

The rest of us know that, as in most of his vapid history, Junior got through this one like he had an EZ-Pass riveted to his ass.

Can't wait for the discovery phase in Rather's lawsuit... all those irrefutable facts out there, clamoring to be lined up and displayed in evidence, well beyond the reach of Georgie's spinmeisters and a lazy, stenographic press.

If we're lucky, it won't be heard until after January, 2009, so the BushDullard can't hide, as usual, behind "executive privilege". By then, he'll just be a retired dry-drunk.

It's.................. SHOWTIME!

There was nothing to refute...Dan's report was spot on...but he had to be smeared, ever since he tangled with Papa Bush.

I know, Mr. President, but you're a Mass Murderer that stole the actual Presidency and drove the actual Democracy to the final plateau of a genuinely Permanent Corporate Military Industrial Dictatorship with All The Powers Of America at your command to keep it in place, so what do I and America really have to lose anymore...?

Ah, crap, Rather, you're a hard egg to crack. Isn't there anything I can give you for that tape....?

Well, Mr. President, I..... *ring ring* *ring ring* *ring ring* Uhhhh... Hold on a second, Mr. President, I have to take this call....

Hello....? Yes, this is Rather. Who...? Ah. Yes, Mary. Yes, I'm here. Yes, with the President also. He.... Oh. You already know he wants the tape. What...? Tell him what...? Are you sure...? Yes, Mary, yes, I'm sorry, yes, I promise never to question you again. Allright, I will, thanks, Mary.

*click*

Who was that, Rather...?

Well, Mr. President, that was Mary12.

Ah geezus f*cking krist. :|

Yes.

Ah geezus krist God help me. What did she say...?

Well, Mr. President, she said that I should give you the tape if you will give me your dick on a stick.

My dick on a stick....? What the f*ck!!!! Absolutely no way am I going to do that, Rather, and I don't care HOW afraid I am of a little 12 year old American girl named Mary, I STILL won't do it. Not a chance!!

She meant Cheney, Mr. President.

Oh... :| Oh, "Dick". :| Well... :| Ok.... :|

2pm next Tuesday, outside the playground of her school, dress him in blue, Mr. President, have him on a stick, then the tape is yours.

Will do, Rather, thanks for stopping by.

Not a problem, Mr. President, not a problem...

Anytime.......

Caption On The Photograph:

Now, listen here, Rather, you're a wussie and a druggie.

Uh, Mr. President, you did twice as much cocaine than any of us before you stole the Presidency and finally drove America into a Permanent Corporate Military Industrial Dictatorship.

Why you little, I'll have you know I did 4 times more cocaine than all the rest of you before I stole the Presidency and finally drove America into a Permanent Corporate Military Industrial Dictatorship.

Ah. So. At last. You finally admit you stole the Presidency.

I... :| I did no such thing, Rather.

Yes, yes you did, Mr. President, and I have it all here on tape now.

I..... :| I..... :| Oh, come on, Rather, I was just kidding. Lookie here, I'll give you this nice dime bag of cocaine just smuggled in by the CIA for that tape.

Uh, no, no thank you, Mr. President.

Well.... :| Ok, look, I'll give you this nice $20 bag of heroin the Pentagon just smuggled in from Afghanistan.

Well, no, I don't think so, Mr. President.

Ok, then here, I've got a nice matching set of 3 dead Iraqi Lebanese Palestinian babies' heads. Gift wrapped with lampshades.

Ah. Tempting. But, no, Mr. President. The American People deserve the Truth about their country they built, fought for and died for for Centuries.

The Truth....? :| The Truth.....? They can't handle The Truth, Rather, and you know it.

Ummm... :| Well, Mr. President. I dunno... :| Your kind of people hide the Truth so well that we can no longer even get The Truth to the American People. The American Media has become complicit Traitors, just like you and your goons.

Rather, you're starting to piss me off a little, you know.

How can Bush spend a Billion Dollars of Saud money to build himself a ;library that won't include his Service Records?

.

Come BB this is Bush. There wasn't much service to record. I do hope they include his tightly rolled dollar bills and makeup mirrors from that same era though.
