New York Sun:

President Clinton is highlighting the efforts of Wal-Mart to safeguard the environment, saying the company's practices could be a template for growth in developing countries.

Sharing the stage with the chief executive of Wal-Mart, H. Lee Scott, during the opening session of the Clinton Global Initiative yesterday, the former president said that if the company -- long criticized by Democrats for its labor and health insurance practices -- generates wealth and jobs while reducing its carbon footprint, "then other businesses will follow suit."

He does have a point.

ASS much as I loathe Walmart since they have caused more environmental damage than we can imagine, they are NOT going to disappear anytime soon.

SO, it is with great trepidation that I do acknowledge their attempts at cutting waste.

Their most effective way they have cut paper waste has been to pay their employees less and less of it

Hillary Clinton: "It Takes A Village ... To Provide Cover for Wal-Mart’s Profiteering Off Systematic Wage-Enslavement of Children In Its Factories in South America"

... "But first, let’s stop at Wal-Mart. Read an official biography of the Senator and you’ll find her six-month stint on a child-protection task force. Yet you won’t find her SIX YEARS on the board of directors of Wal-Mart Corporation. She may have earned a Grammy for “It Takes a Village to Raise a Child.” But it takes a Governor’s wife to provide cover for Wal-Mart’s profiteering off systematic wage-enslavement of children in its factories in South America.

Sam Walton called Hillary, “My little lady.” Sam paid her an eyebrow raising sum for a director - equal to 60% of her entire not-insubstantial salary as a lawyer. By contrast, Wendy Diaz (her real name), a 13-year-old in Honduras, was paid 25 cents an hour to make shirts for the “little lady’s” label.

Hillary’s rake-in was made possible by Wal-Mart’s 100% union-free operation and out-sourcing of 100% of its manufacturing, some to prison factories in China. Now, you could say that Hillary couldn’t hear the screams of the kiddies in Kamp Wal-Mart in Honduras. After all, she relied on the intelligence provided her by the President (of Wal-Mart)."

The choice will not be hard:

Republican Lite or Republican

It will be a sad day.

Look Chris, I'll tell you straight up, if it looks like it's going to be too close to call, I'll have to vote for Hillary. I hate the idea, but our country can hardly make it through the next year much less the next five years under Republican's disastrous leadership.

If you were honest you would agree with this.

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwww! I see that this thread is totally devoted to anti-Clinton, and anti-Wal-Mart, and is devoid of any sign of IQs over the two digit level.

ADIOS, it ain't worth trying to point out reasonable issues like EVERYONE SELLS CHINESE products. Take your boycott and stop all commerce. Do not buy ANYTHING!

Oh, btw, are you still fueling your cars? Bad, bad, bad ... you're giving money to terrorist nations! (Sigh, someone won't see this as a joke.)

History will remember Wall Marts biggest contribution as that which went to the landfill years ahead of the better products we used to be able to get but no longer can as a direct result of the crap-stores business model.

Wal-Mart deserves praise for more than just that.

As one of the nearly 50 million Americans with no healthcare insurance, I moved all my prescriptions to Wal-Mart when they began their $4 prescription programs. Any generic is $4 for 30 pills. My prescriptions call for 90/month each and that makes them $12 each or $24 a month. The next least costly pharmacy wanted $20 for one prescription and $24 for the other. By switching to Wal-Mart, I save $20/month on two prescrips.

I know Wal-Mart has lots of products made in China, as does Dillards, Macys, Bloomingdales, CVS, Target, and almost every other major retailer. No need to tar just Wally World with that.

And, the employees at my nearest Wal-Mart are thrilled to have the income from their jobs. So, lay off Wal-Mart. They are no worse than many, and are certainly better than some.

Well I am glad you save 20 bucks. Now as for the thousands of Americans out of work because of Walmarts business practices they don't have 20 bucks at all. Real nice living in your world.

You want me to lay off Walmart? You vote for your best interests. Vote Kucinich and you will save a hell of allot more that 20 bucks on your over priced shitty healthcare.

A vote for Kucinich would be very much like a vote for Ralph Nader. WalMart does NOT put people OUT of work, but quite the opposite ... provides jobs for quite a lot of people in many communities.

You sure overlook the plight of Americans without healthcare ... yes MINE is JUST $20 month but for people with serious prescription needs and no insurance the Wal-Mart programs saves them collectively thousands, probably millions, of dollars. So, where you see $20, those with a brain can see the bigger picture.

NascarLiberal, I would be concerned about those medications being the genuine article. In light of reports of more and more counterfeit drugs on the market, China being a major player, and Wal-Mart being a major importer of Chinese products, you may not always be getting the read deal you thought you were getting.

That fried chicken you are probably snarfing down is likely tainted with Chinese offal too. Put things in perspective bubba DefyANT ... you're gonna find Chinese crap almost everywhere.

Uhhhhhhhh, did you decide to ignore the fact that Chinese products are sold at MACYS, BLOOMINGDALES, TARGET, CVS and virtually all stores? I guess so ... one track or totally missing a brain ... anybody's guess. Obviously this thread is devoted to only those who live and breath being anti-Wal-Mart.

Crumbs from the table are nice.

WalMart deliberately drove U.S. companies out of business.

Their mantra, "Americans are demanding cheaper goods" is a load of crap. In truth, WalMart was solely interested in creating a huge profit margin for themselves.

Shop at WalMart? No, thank you.

Bah!!!

Wal-Mart has a "green" store or two. I live in a community with one of them. They expect us to overlook their multitudes of abuses because this one store has skylights, or something.

The only moral attitude toward Wal-Mart is to BOYCOTT it.

This only proves the Clintons are corporate puppets who will play ball with the corporations and Republicans.

#5 Look at all the small business's the Wamart has put out of business
#6 How many jobs have been lost because of Walmart/NAFTA
#7 How much $$$$$ has Walmart pumped in to Hillaries campaign
#8 Look how Walmart treats their employees, like animals
#9 They have very questionable organic produce.
#10 Questionable meat products that have been recalled
#11 Try and find anything in Walmart that says made in America, Good Luck.
The list goes on and on feel free to add to it. There is nothing good about Walmart.

Say what you will about Bill Clinton or Walmart, but the fact remains that I was able to buy 3 packages of 8 CF light bulbs for 86 cents + sales tax per pack at my local Sam's Club yesterday . That's less than 11 cents a light bulb. Each 60 watt equivalent light bulb uses only 13 watts. That's a lot of energy saved.
The local super markets and hardware stores typically charge several dollars per light bulb. There is not a big incentive to use energy efficient light bulbs at those high prices.

NO WAY you idiot...all the grocery stores in my area have huge pallets of FLourescant bulbs for 10 packs for $10.00 and still pay their employees and health care.
So, numskull, go buy your cheap stuff and help the US and your neighborhood lose LOSE more jobs.
You are a ruiner of your local businesses.

Isn't Hillary on the Wal-Mart Board. And what about all the Chinese products Wal-Mart imports? China is a major polluter, major human rights abuses, not to mention that the Clinton's have had a longstanding history of insinuating Chinese power in the U.S. I suspect this is just another manipulation of the numbers in an effort to make Wal-Mart into a feel good company.

Propaganda at its finest.

Hillary WAS on the Wal-Mart board, which made sense if you remember she was a prominent lawyer in Arkansas where WM is based.

Hillary is just too happy to play ball with corporations. Bill was a good president but he shouldn't pander to a corporation that has done so much harm to so many people, and keeps on giving harm.

You are correct Olivia up to one point.
We just all thought that Bill was a good President at the time.
But truth to be known, he was just as crooked as the rest of them. He was more devious and secretive about it.
Remember all the scandals? Don't get me wrong, I voted for the bastard two times. Because I was was uninformed.
But our country was in a cycle of correction at the time after the Reagan/Bush years and he just happened to be in office for this correction. The correction was not his doing, it was just the cycle of the beast (Economy).
We had a Republican Congress at the time which made a big difference.
Our country works better when there is no control of one party over the congress/senate/president. It works better when one party has the presidency and the other has the congress. Less corruption is apt to happen that way.
Read your history.
But back to the main point Bill was not a good President. The man had numerous flaws, but was/is like a cat with nine lives.
