Michelle Obama: "If Barack Doesn't Win Iowa It Is Over"

stumbleupon :Michelle Obama: "If Barack Doesn't Win Iowa It Is Over"   digg: Michelle Obama: "If Barack Doesn't Win Iowa It Is Over"   reddit: Michelle Obama: "If Barack Doesn't Win Iowa It Is Over"   del.icio.us: Michelle Obama: "If Barack Doesn't Win Iowa It Is Over"

Michelle Obama stopped in Quad City, IA, yesterday, and sharply raised expectations for her husband:

"I ask myself what the world I want to hand over to my girls is," Obama said.

Of course, she made a case for her husband to become president, saying that America needs new leadership in the White House.

She said Barack needs Iowa to win. "Iowa will make the difference," Obama said. "If Barack doesn't win Iowa it is over."

A Strategic Vision poll released today shows Obama trailing slightly behind Clinton and Edwards: Clinton 24%, Edwards 22%, Obama 21%.

UPDATE: Ben Smith notes that Michelle may have been misquoted. ABC and NBC both note her saying: "If Barack doesn't win Iowa, it's just a dream. If we win Iowa, then we can move to the world as it should be."

I was for Obama because I thought Hillary was too stiff and inauthentic, even though as a New Yorker I think she's done a great job in the Senate. However, anyone paying an iota of attention to the debates and to her speaking in general should see what an incredible improvement she has made at articulating herself, communicating a clear message and vision, and even warmth.. Sorry folks, but she is beating Edwards and Obama on real merit.

This may be true but merit is subjective and what is meritorious to some is abhorent and disengenuous to others.

Hillary could practice and become the best speaker in the world but to many of us she would still epitomize, one who speaks wise but acts otherwise.

She has a credibility definiency with most Democrats and Republicans alike, that just being a great wordsmith can not overcome. Look at Newt Gingrich, this man could talk the hump off of a camels's back but would you vote for him? Hell no!

Rush Limbaugh makes a very handsome living talking trash but I doubt that he could be elected dog catcher in most communities in America. On the other hand , the inarticulate Yoggi Bear, could probably be elected mayor of most towns and some cities in America. It's a matter of authenticity (especialy in these most unauthentistic times of great deception that America has just gone through) credibility and authentiscity is more important now than ever before. The people are tired of phonies, phony patriots, phony troop supporters, phony cowboys, phony love America firsters, phony we have your best interest at hearters, ect. People are just feed up with all of the phony BS, that we have been feed for the last 7 years. And most of us are determined not to be fooled by phony Democrats like Lieberman and Hillary this time around.

The MIC owned MSM is behind the continuance of the Bush/Clinton single party facade.

The only cure for this cabal by corporate fascism is a fast rebirth of American Populism!

I don't think Michelle Obama has been the most productive spokesperson for her husband's campaign. I think it's time to step out of the limelight.

For my part, I don't like to see both Obama and Edwards running against Hillary in the primary. I'd like to see a clear choice between Edwards and Clinton. I like Barak, but I think his turn will come in the future. I don't want to see a split anti-Hillary vote that gives her the nomination. I don't support her vision. I'd like to see an alternative vision have a clean shot at winning the nomination.

The populace will listen and respond. If Obama is underwhelming, to others than his inner circle, he will not move forward. If Edwards is overwhelming he will move forward. Can either Edwards or Obama trump Hillary and the old school, it is doubtful. The netizens do not hold the power they believe they have. However, they can do more than is being done now. They can get to Obama and avise him:
Every gaffe that the Repugnants make should be jumped on by Obama. Take the Larry Craig denial of hate crimes being done against Gays. Take the ridiculous spending by Bush and his Cronies. Take the lies about Iraq and now Iran. If Obama wants to win, he has to leave the current Dems cowardice of revealing these things and get on with it. Hillary can win with the middle of the road. Obama could win with the truth. Dare he speak it, or will he too submit or fall victim to the doublespeak standard?
Personally, I would rather lose after giving a good fight, than lose for dancing with my opponent.

Utter bullsh*t.

The MSM has been deliberately misquoting both Obama and Michelle lately. His campaign, by all on-the-ground reports, is motivated, organized, and in great position.

This is the kind of deliberate misquoting they did to Al Gore.

I agree. Why am I not surprised that the Media seems to always be misquoting Obama and Michelle , but gets it right on everyone else?

Let this be a lesson to Michelle and I'm sure it will be. She has to be a lot more unambiguous with her remarks, knowing that the miscreant spinners will be working overtime to try to distort and cast a bad light on whatever she says. I don't mean that she should be muzzled but she has to be a little more measured and clear with her remarks. Because she is not a well enough seasoned public speaker who can self monitor her speech well enough to speak off the cuff without leaving some room for the spinners to pounce on and twist some of her remarks to Obama's opponents advantage.

And Obama needs to take up the passion slack, while Michelle has to go on the downlow. Obama needs to totally sell out (pray and fast if necessary) and do whatever it takes to get himself inspired to intensify his passion and love for rightousness and then start going full force ahead with more vigor, passion and a spirit of intelligent and unreserved restoration of America and the ideals that 70 % of her people stand for, in order to connect and reflect where the American people are. Nuance is ok at times but there comes a time when bottomline truth spoken with passion and power as MLK had a knack for doing, is far more effective and can muster far greater support, in a way that pure nuance and intellect could never do.

It seems that Edwards and Kincinich are the only ones to be in sinck with the passion of the American people at this time. And Obama has to evoke more passion, in order to catch up with them and also to be able to overtake the paid polemecist who are busy creating their miscreant faux facts and distortions of the truth (their own miscreant reality) with maniacal passion and commitment of their own.

The only thing that will stop The swapping of another Clinton for another Bush,

ultimately bringing America to JeeeBush, is a unity ticket of Edwards/Obama

BEFORE the big states vote in February.

Get smart guys! Hillary will win unless you unite soon, to defeat her!

Goodbye Senator, he did awaken some in America.Yes you're the voice and agent of change. But history tells us that America and Americana resist change. The majority is not nor will they ever be ready for you. This country has too many problems for a decent, fair minded, man as Senator Obama to represent this nation. This is a sad fact about America, we had our chance and blew it.Ignorance and fear still trumps in America.

At this point, the only candidate who can lose Iowa and still beat Hillary is Al Gore.

Of course, he would win Iowa in a landslide (see: 85% approval rating among Democrats. Yes, 85%.)

And, of course, he hasn't announced.

Has it become the new popular thing to say you were "underwhelmed by Barack?" I see a lot of people using that exact phrasing as though it's somehow clever or insightful. If you want to claim from your positions of brilliance how disappointed you are in Obama, how about some specifics. How about you give us a list of at least three things other than his being tepid during a debate. I have yet to see any of you underwhelmers talk about what he is saying.

Welcoming a third party candidate is the mark of true genius. While we can all see the results of the highest third party voter turn-out in recent history (2000), we still have people threatening to vote the republicans right back into office by replaying that dreadful event. It is nothing short of childish to throw around threats of independence as ersatz intelligence. If the progressive voters out there would rather see a republican in the white house than vote for a candidate who doesn't support every demand we have, we deserve exactly what we get--we deserve the war, the privatized education system, healthcare for only the rich, global warming and concentrated acid rain.

"While we can all see the results of the highest third party voter turn-out in recent history (2000)"

Not to quibble, but by recent history are you starting with 2000? Because Perot got 18.9% in 1992 and 8.4% in 1996. Nader got less than 3% in 2000.

Camel54, you have written the best post on this thread by far. I think the same thing about people claiming to be "underwhelmed" but not expounding on their comments.

When Obama bashers say they were "underwhelmed by Barack" and don't provide any details, we can tie it to all of the other unsavory, untrue, and unbelievable things we STILL see and hear:

"Barack voted for the bankruptcy bill"
"Barack got in the race to stop Edwards"
"Barack failed to take the positions on the issues which would have expanded his base."
"Barack has no real postions"
"I am tired of Michelle Obama's "PROMISCUOUS" bedroom disclosures"

This is unfortunate. People who claim to be "underwhelmed" by him were likely never for him in the first place.
