Dem Rep To Introduce House Resolution Condemning Limbaugh On Monday

I've just learned that Rep. Mark Udall (D-CO) will be introducing a resolution in the House of Representatives on Monday condemning Rush Limbaugh for his "phony soldiers" remark.

This is significant because it has the potential to dramatically up the stakes in this fight. If the Democratic leadership allows it to go for a vote, it will force all the Republicans in the House to either vote for it, against it, or skip the vote -- and to pass judgment on the powerful conservative talk show host's contention that troops who don't support President Bush's war policies are "phony soldiers."

It will also potentially present the Dem leadership with a not-so-easy choice. Many people will naturally call on the leadership to allow the resolution to come to a vote, which is not necessarily something the leadership might want, since it could look like a tit-for-tat reso in retaliation for the measure condemning MoveOn. It also is potentially problematic for some in the leadership because there is an internal sentiment that it's not Congress' job to go around denouncing the remarks, however reprehensible, of private citizens.

As I read the comments about the "phony soldier" I'm amused by the so called elitists rebuke of Rush Limbaugh! If you would read the book "Stolen Valor", by B.G Burkett and Glenna Whitley you will know what he is talking about. One can replace any of the names in there with Jesse Macbeth and not lose any meaning.A crook is a crook. The phony soldier(Macbeth) lied about what he did, saw and got injured. Macbeth only lasted 40 days in boot camp as washed out! Now we have a congress that has nothing better to do than introduce a denouncement of Rush Limbaugh on a subject that was deliberately distorted by MediaMatterorg. I'm waiting for the embarrassment of both the congress and the Soro organization.

I have a problem with members of Congress using the remarks of outrageous private citizens to force their colleagues into a meaningless vote. Meanlingless, that is, except that it forces said colleagues to take a stand on a controversial subject without affecting change regarding said subject. This will come back to bite the Democrats.

Referring to soldiers who do necessarity subscribe to President Bush's Iraqi policy as
"phony" is as nasty as it gets. But coming from Rush Limbaugh is as unsurprising as it is unforgivable given the history of this man's vernomous verbal diarrhea which always has gone unpunished. As for the bill condermning him for slighting the troops, it does matter if the Republican would want to interprete it as an act of retaliation for an almost similar bill passed in the Senate to condemn MoveOn. The problem with Republicans is that they never practise what they preach.

I think it's a bad idea for the government to officially endorse or sanction the political speech of any citizen or group. I am disappointed the Senate did not stop the Moveon deal. I have no problem with politicians speaking their minds about politics but once you use official government edicts it's starting to get into the government attempting to directly influence political speech.
