Giuliani: I Answered My Wife's Phone Call Because Of 9/11

Giuliani also addressed a cell phone call he took from his wife, Judith, last week during his speech to the National Rifle Association, an important appearance because Giuliani clashed with the group when he argued for tougher gun control as mayor of New York.

"And quite honestly, since Sept. 11, most of the time when we get on a plane, we talk to each other and just reaffirm the fact that we love each other," he said.

Why can't Guiliani just tell the truth and admit it was a publicity stunt? Oh, right, that would defeat the purpose of the phone call...which was a publicity stunt.

His wife knew full well when his speech was. She's been tied to his campaign since the start. She knew that by calling him onstage, the people attending would think "yeah, our wives call us all the time! He must be committed to his third cousin...I mean, wife...". Then Guiliani drops it even further by saying "I take every call...since 9/11". Please. Spare us all his theatrics. If there was something serious, he'd be notified by one of his campaign people in person while on stage, not by cell phone.

Heck, Rudy Guiliani was giving a speech. His wife could have simply left a voice message. And, then, if tragedy had struck, Guiliani would not only have something to listen to while giving speeches to the NRA, he'd actually have something to share with them.

Sorry, folks, but there's point where the utility of the cellphone goes above and beyond merely annoying, and that's the point where it reflects the narcissism of the user. Anyone who interrupts a speech, a speech being given during a presidential campaign, to indulge in what is little more than an adolescent boy/girl love call is a whack job. It's that simple. And because of that, I've lost a great deal of respect for the NRA - all armed and dangerous men (some of them even veterans) - for sitting there and taking it like a bunch of sissies. And they call themselves gun owners! Well, how many of them stood up and walked out? How many stood up and walked out - but towards the whack job on the cell phone?

Watching Rudy smooching with his young wife on his cellphone in the middle of speech made think the terrorists have won...It was sad day for presidential candidates everywhere...
