2007-09-28-mcgov.jpgGeorge McGovern, the anti-war senator and 1972 Democratic presidential nominee, is set to endorse Hillary Clinton in Iowa on Oct. 6, ABC News reports.

Clinton, Barack Obama, and John Edwards are all "pretty attractive," McGovern tells ABC, but Clinton will "likely secure his backing," in part because of her work on his presidential campaign.

"I got to know her 35 years ago," McGovern said. "She and her boyfriend, Bill Clinton, took over the McGovern organization in Texas. They did a terrific job against impossible odds. I never forgot that. They worked night and day in that state."

McGovern said that he was "impressed by the experience she had as first lady. I know some people say it's not governing experience, but it really is. You're at the elbow of the power broker. She was there for all the decisions." He said he was impressed with her performance at the debates and her ability to win large re-election margins in both New York City and upstate New York.

With George's endorsement, Clinton has wrapped up the anti-war McGovern vote. Vocal Iraq war critic Rep. Jim McGovern (D-MA) -- no relation -- endorsed Hillary in March.

It wouldn't surprise me if the attack adds planned by this right wing group have no affect or back fire. Nothing this group is going to say will have the slightest impact on Clinton's campaign. Even if they attempt to Swift Boat her my guess is it won't matter. The right is freaking out and its fun to watch.

I'm going to guess that the great majority of the people lambasting McGovern for endorsing Clinton weren't born when McGovern ran for president in 1972. I say that because the comments critical of the man's performance at that time are not just inaccurate but they are insulting. I suggest critics watch the movie "All The President Men" as it provides a basic overview of the dirty tricks McGovern faced. It's a wonder that McGovern received any electoral votes.

I recall the 1972 election well because until 2006, it was the last election in which I was an active participant. To those people not alive or aware in 1972, McGovern must seem an oddity and since the guy lost big time why would anyone care what he thinks. I won't forget that McGovern likely knew he was going to lose big but he never ever compromised his beliefs. He was a liberal-progressive and proud of it. I know this is a concept that's hard for the under 40 set to believe since it hasn't happened in a presidential election since Mondale.

I'm certain McGovern endorsed Clinton because he honestly felt she would be the best president. I doubt there is anything more sinister involved. McGovern was a straightforward and easy going politician, which is why he was no match for Nixon and I doubt he's changed much.

WHERE is one peep from Hillary and her campaign defending her Kyl/Lieberman vote?
They know she made a campaign-killing mistake, and want some other story to suck up all the oxygen and make it go away.

It is unbelievable that any thinking person would endorse someone like Hillary who would sell out American Freedom and Prosperity to the highest bidder. The republicans are bad but at least they are honest about their idiocy. Hillary pretends to be a progressive for the people while taking money from some of the worst people...IE Rupert murdoch. Do you really think that with her big donations from big drug companies and insurance companies that she will do anything that but put more profit into their hands. She will sell out the internet as well.

George McGovern also endorsed Thomas Eagleton to be his running mate.
The problem was, the man had a severe mental problem, they lost, and we now have George W. B*** ( I won't use the " B Word" ).
If activists in the Democratic Party have any sense they will forget this entire crop.
They should Draft Al Gore / Russ Feingold at the Convention.
Post : Seeing Clintons hair sure brings back the days .. :)

When McGovern dropped Eagleton from the ticket the knock was, Will Rogers never met George McGovern. That knock should be used again for it still fits well.

It's amazing how many reactionaries are in the Democratic Party and believe that not voting for Hillary, if she is the nominee, is a good thing- it's equivalent to shooting yourself in the foot! If Hillary receives the nomination and reactionary Democrats listen to the Republican innuendos and lies, the those who Democratic Party voters will have, in essence, encouraged the corporate fascist agenda of the Republicans to continue to destrroy America's influence in the world which will mean for Americans:
Deeper in debt,
more dead and wounded soldiers in Iraq,
more hiher gas prices,
more jobs sent to Asia,
more recalled food & goods from China,
more workers without healthcare and pensions...
you know, the same thing they are doing to America now!

The point is SHE isn't the nominee, there is still time to correct this MISTAKE.

Hillary Clinton will continue the Iraq War.
She's like Bush but with two more boobs.

I am amazed how successful and flawless Ms. Clinton's campaign has been here to fore. The Clintons are truly masters on how to run successful campaigns. I am an Edwards supporter still but I fear by the time the primary race gets to California, the race will be over.
As per the swiftboating of Ms. Clinton, what can we expect from the Republicans? But I am pretty sure that unlike Senator Kerry, the Clinton machine will not roll over but rather steamroll it dead in its swiftboat wake.
It is hard for me to be enthused about a Clinton candidacy yet I am sure I will eventually rally around the Democratic nominee only because whomever the Republican nominee is would be so unthinkable that I have no choice. This saddens me to some extent because if the primaries aren't a foci of debate among the Democrats, we all lose a chance to make a meaningful impact.

Bill Clinton could have come to the aid of John Kerry during the Swift-Boat incident.
His support would have done wonders in snapping Kerry out of the shock and disorientation caused by the Rovarian attack.
He did not come to Kerry's side as the plan all along was to run Hilary in '08.
As much as I admire the skill of the Clintons, at that time, it really pissed me off that they put Hilary's agenda ahead of the wellbeing of The People.

You do know that Chelsea Clinton campaigned for Kerry...and she gave a speech supporting, Kerry, the first time she's made a public speech on behalf of any campaign. Doesn't seem to me she was putting her mother's agenda above the People.

It's amazing to me how people (and even Democrats) with 20/20 hindsight continue to fire conspiracies at Clintons - oh, well, Bill must've withdrawn his support from Gore and Kerry so that 8 years later, he could back his wife? C'mon. Aim your fire instead at the deserving Republicans who have stolen the Election and swiftboated Kerry.

Lemme see now, a bunch of very rich spoiled lazy resentful frat boys against a candidate and campaign team composed of smart, hard working, savvy women. Hillary and her team will wipe them out. She still has my vote.

I wouldn't vote for Hillary after her AYE vote on Kyl/Lieberman if she was running against Cheney HIMSELF!

why bother?

When Cheney takes that Kyl/Lieberman Sense of the Senate to attack inside Iran, starting another G*D DAMN war he will dump on the next president's lap...remember your darling Hillary.

a WHOLE 600 Thousand ad buy...ooooh scarey

I was suprised it was Republicans attacking Hillary, I thought it's STILL the Progressives turn.

My anti Hillary ad would show Kristol, Cheney, and Lieberman speaking their mantras to go to war with Iran, then Hillary's photo morphs to LIEBERMAN...the sound tract becomes Hillary's fake LAUGH.
