Bill Clinton: I'd Be Happy If My Office Was In The White House Basement

Huffington Post   First Posted: 03/28/08 03:45 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 01:15 PM ET

After joking with Jon Stewart last week that "I may slit my throat" as First Husband, Bill Clinton took a much more obedient tone on ABC's "This Week With George Stephanopoulos". Asked if he'd want an office in the West Wing, Clinton replied, "If Hillary wins, I want to do whatever she wants me to do...If they want to give it to me in the basement of the White House, I'd be happy."

Bill Clinton's declarations of willing demotion come after a week when Hillary was criticized for her husband's record. During Wednesday night's Democratic debate at Dartmouth College, candidate Joe Biden told the audience "There's a lot of very good things that come with all the great things that President Clinton did, but there's also a lot of the old stuff that comes back." When debate moderator Tim Russert brought up an interview in which Bill Clinton had discussed torture, Hillary replied "Well, he's not standing here right now."

Barack Obama's campaign also used Bill Clinton to attack Hillary this week. Clinton told Bloomberg Television in a recent interview that he didn't think Obama has enough experience. Obama hit back Saturday, citing comments made by Bill Clinton in 1992 that "the same old experience is not relevant. ... And you can have the right kind of experience and the wrong kind of experience." In a clear jab at Hillary, Obama said, "He's exactly right, what we need to do is put an end to the wrong kind of experience."

When world leaders criticize President Hillary will Bill swoop in and clear things up?

He needs to shut his mouth until the general election. Let Hillary fight at least one battle on her own.

Everyone called HRC the brains of the operation/marriage/campaign. I used to agree.

Not so much anymore.

I am starting to think that she is just a bad politician who constantly needs to be modified/explained/made-over/repackaged. It is the popularity of Bill that her campaign is feeding off of because it sure as hell isn't anything she has said or done.

And what would he get away with down there?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm????

You just need to ask your self one question. Who would you rather have had for president the last 6 years. Bill or George?
07:35 PM on 10/01/2007
......And your point is?
03:07 PM on 10/01/2007
Of course you would so nobody can stumble in on you getting a hummer or 'smoking' a cigar.

Why would America vote for someone super rich
and who has her house being paid by the American Tax Payer. Enough already. We need
to get someone in there who knows the woes we are facing every day. But I guess it is like
voting for Britney Spears = name recognition
and an awful lot of BLAH, BLAH and BLAH.

About Dennis.

Although I think I agree with him becaause he acts like the most intelligent one in the group, Dennis will never get the nomination because:

1. His name. Dennis is bad enough, but when you combine it with Kucinick, you get something like Dennis + Kucinick = Bela + Lugosi.

2. His looks. Closer to BL than Robert Redford.

3. His height. Big tough guys don't like to take orders from short people.

I thought that's where his character brought it anyway??? So he'd feel at home, eh?

This is so pathetic. Bill Clinton was all over the Sunday shows getting publicity for his foundation that others would kill for. Why? Because the MSM mandarins all got the memo - Hilary is the chosen one, and queen's consort Sir Bill is to be showered with tribute.

I can stand a little corruption, but the obsequious manner in this instance makes me ill.

Even the clerics at Abbe Fox got the message from his excellency Pope Rupert I - Hil's our girl. Note how Friar Newt was left spewing an angry, sarcastic withdrawal from presidential run on ABC, not his usual home at Fox.

Sorry it makes you ill ... Nader will massage you back to health!

Bill Clinton: I'd Be Happy If My Office Was In The White House Basement.

American Public: We'd be happier if your office was in Alaska.

Not "American Public". Nader-herd-cacophony ...

Despite their bad qualities, the Clintons believe in checks and balances and they have shown themselves able to effectively run the US even while under dire circumstances and constant personal attack. Their policies were driven by consulting with several experts and working towards solutions. Bill's legacy as a husband may be tarnished but he was a darned good president and Hillary was a huge part of that. If she's the nominee, she's got my vote.

There's more than 350M people in America, and we certainly don't need husbands and wives being duly elected presidents.

What's next Laura Bush running for Texas senate, then the Whitehouse?

Enough already, go away Bill.
07:40 PM on 10/01/2007
" they have shown themselves able to effectively run the US even while under dire circumstances and constant personal attack."

NOT "THEY." HILLARY WAS NOT THE CO-PRESIDENT.

"Hillary was a huge part of that."

You mean she takes credit for it. The only public thing Hillary did was Healthcare. And she failed.

Seems like Hillary was out of the loop and much of the goings-on in the West Wing.

The Clintons were on all the Sunday morning talk shows the past to weeks and I'm reminded of how tired I was of both of them and happy to see them leave the White House.

40% of Americans have not lived without a Bush or Clinton in office. And during this time the top 1% of the wealthiest have increased their income by over 400%. The the rest of Americans have increased their income by 1%.

Basements make for good places to have sex with interns.
