Eat The Press:

For a devoted fan, there are many takeaways from last night's kickoff to the 33rd season of "Saturday Night Live," but for the media and the internet there will be only one: Last night's digital short featuring Andy Samberg singing a love song to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, played with bearded brilliance by Fred Armisen, and featuring Maroon 5's Adam Levine plus a cameo from Jake Gyllenhaal.

Iran Calls Log Cabin Republicans Terrorists

Iran's President Ahmadinejad announced today that Iran had declared the Log Cabin Republicans a terrorist organization. He called on the UN to authorize strong sanctions because of the organization's continuing efforts to introduce homosexuality into Iran. The President said that this was the greatest threat to the straightness of Iran since the Sodomites' efforts in 100 BC.

Many on the far right say that if you make fun of Bush then it means that you are a traitor that's wants the terrorists to win and many on the far left say that if you make fun of Saddam,Ahmadinejad or the loon in North Korea then you are pro war. Both views are,of course, ludicrous, nonsensical, and ignorant and show that many on the far right and far left want to limit freedom.People like Bush and Ahmadinejad say and do things that set them up for ridicule and they should be made fun of.

MY COMMENT, NOW DELETED [THANKS, WHOEVER!] WAS RELATED TO THE FACT THAT IN THE AMADINEJAD SKIT AND THE RELATED STORY, LORNE MICHAELS IS TRYING TO TRANSITION OR RE-STRUCTURE SNL, MAKE IT MORE FUNNY AND TOPICAL "EDGY". MY POINT WAS THAT HE HAS ALSO MADE A BIG DEAL ABOUT BRINGING BACK ONE SPECIFIC CAST MEMBER WHOM I FIND NOT FUNNY AT ALL.

ALSO, I MENTIONED THAT THE SHOW SEEMS TO BE VERY PRO-ESTABLISHMENT ... TREADING LIGHTLY ON THE PARTY IN POWER VERSUS THE OPPOSITION POLITICAL PARTY. IN FACT, TOWING THE ADMINISTRATION-LINE., OR CARRYING THE WHITE HOUSE'S WATER, IF YOU WILL.

THESE REMARKS CONTAIN NO OBSCENITIES, ARE NOT LEWD OR OFF-COLOR, ARE NOT AN AD HOMINEM ATTACK OR OFF-TOPIC. IF THE MODERATOR HAD ONLY READ THE ENTIRE LINKED STORY, THE COMMENTS WERE TOTALLY ON-TOPIC.

How proud will you be when your country once again attacks another country killing thousands.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 05:45 AM on 10/02/2007

And totally incorrect. Do you actually watch the show or are you just spouting what someone else has said? They have been making fun of Bush and republicans for the last 7 years. SNL can be accused of many things, but towing the administration line is definitely not one of them.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:51 PM on 10/01/2007

Give me a break. Do you watch the show, yourself?

While there is no shortage of material, SNL and their ilk have the LAMEST the TAMEST of material. That's why nobody watches anymore, and they watch the Colbert show.

No matter, all the right wing slanted, party line towing MSM is like that, consider Leno's weak jokes.

When there's so so much material ladies. Such as a skit with a bunch of Neocons cheering someone with an anti-gay hate speech, and then realizing it's Amadinjead. That's called comedy - black comedy.

There is nothing funny about hate propaganda aimed at demonizing the president of a country that the Pentagon has targeted for destruction.

Poor raise. She LOOOOOOOOVES the regime in Teheran. They subjugate women and kill gays simply for being gay.

Let someone poke fun at such a medieval regime, however, and she gets her panties in a twist.

The skit was hilarious.

MI6troll has been agitating for a shock-and-revulsion bombing of Iran for over a year. If you speak out in favor of peace for Iran, he'll verbally attack you. Don't let him intimidate you. He just calls names and uses a lot of vulgarisms.

He'll never admit what his plan is for Iranian women and gay men, so I'll do the honors. MI6troll will be arm in arm with Dick Cheney liberating them from their very lives and destroying their country.

No, you right-wing nutjobs love Iran. That's what you loonies want to try to turn the good ol America into. No gays. Women in their place. Religious zeolots like Dobson and Falwell - phony, crackpot shams - rule the country.

Why don't you nutjobs just go there, and stop trying to destroy America?

Is it the Left's duty to ALWAYS defend other countries, no matter how horrible and ALWAYS blame the USA?

well, after reading these posts, I guess it is.

being anti gay marriage is a lot different than killing the gays in your country. Don't ya think?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:18 AM on 10/01/2007

Kundera--A lot of guys that post here are in the military, so I'll assume that's your orientation. What you should realize is that the overwhelming majority of people are not in the military and do not see the world as a collection of hostile, warring nation states.

Think of it this way: You're crazy about the Pittsburgh Steelers but your neighbor, who also lives in Pennsylvania, knows nothing and cares less about football and has zero sympathy for millionaire athletes.

Are you going to angrily and self-righteously demand that your uninterested neighbor root for the Steelers in its next game? You'd be wasting your time and breath.

As for Iranian gays, are you implying a "shock 'n' awe" blitzkrieg wouldn't kill them? Bombs kill people without regard to sexual orientation.

Sure, but making fun of your own president and for whom you constantly spew hate is OK, right? Another hypocrite.

Max,

Homosexuality is NOT a practice. Its is an inborn sexual orientation. People who are born gay - are still gay regardless if they ever have sex. It is someone who is sexually and romantically attracted to the same sex - acting on it is not necessary.

Let's put ourselves in the Iranian frame of mind.

It's like being in the 1950's. Gays are invisible. It's something the state religion bans. If you're gay, you live in the closet. You don't ask and you don't tell. The last thing the President of the country would ever want to do is even discuss the issue.

The leader of Iran visits America, hoping to stave off a war.

First he's insulted by the head of a university.

Next he gets questioned about queers in Iran.

Then, American television satirizes him, puts him in a dress with a man wanting to sodomize him.

What greater insult could we possibly give?

Is it any wonder they think America's the whore of Babylon?

Funny skit, but I don't think the people of Iran are going to think so.

If you're out there, Mr. Ahmadinejad, I apologize for how you were treated in person and in our media.

His trip here was not to head off any war. Once again, I see no one defending insults and the demeaning of our own leaders on a daily basis, but running to apologize to that ass-hat.

Questioning about gays in Iran is perfectly acceptable. The university president's opening speech was spot on. And we are free to go after him on television.

You are a fool.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:15 PM on 10/01/2007

What insults? Is that what Fox News feeds you? The only insults were the once by a lowly College president to the president of a Country. If roles were reversed, and Bush was over, interviewed by Tehran's University head, would you expect this person to be attacked in such a way? It was the mark of a small, small person to act that way, and sadly, it seems we as a country, with our cheap snubs, are becoming a small, whiny, weak, country. Shame.

Yes, poor Mahmood, he was treated so badly. We should show more respect for those who stone women, behead gays and call America the most evil nation in the world.

Excellent points. And one more: was this any different from asking Donald Rumsfeld or Cheney if there are gays in the military? The American Military I mean.

Who the f*** are we in this country to laugh at anybody? We, the great super power, living with the illusion of freedom. Christ, Americans may as well laugh, but we should be laughing at what we ourselves deny and not at others...

Great skit. The only thing funnier is the nitwits who compare Ahmahjerkapenis to Bush, not even vaguely cognizant of the fact that were they in Iran criticizing Ahmahjerkapenis they'd be swinging from a rope. Too funny!

If Ahmadinejad was as bad as Bush the Iranians would have had him swinging from a rope a long time ago. They would'nt have wasted precious time nattering and bitching with their heads up their asses like Americans do, until it's too late to stop that psychopath in the White House.

Great skit? Too funny? Not hardly, unless one finds snickering the high point of life. Perhaps if one is young enough, it is difficult to recall how recently it was that in America, individuals, families, communities and the country were in full denial regarding homosexuality here. Perhaps we are witnessing such individual denial presently in the United States Senate. We can’t know that for sure.

The fact that gay people parade down major streets in America or even marry does not suggest enlightenment has come to our own nation. Can anyone recall the 1999 murder of Matthew Shepard in Laramie, Wyoming, without recoiling with disgust? It would seem therefor that we snicker not at Iran and its president but at ourselves.

Then to the skit, where did it go? As one comment to this post suggests, it depicts President Ahmadinejad in a dress. So? That Iran has not yet examined homosexuality puts them what, thirty-five years behind our own examination? For that we can crow?

Executions? Perhaps we should recall how Texas put down 350 souls during George Bush’s term as governor there. Was the mocking execution of Carla Faye Tucker a higher moral matter that executions in Iran, public or no? In most every county in America there are people still living who know about public executions outside the courthouses of their own community. Perhaps we should have the humility to be understanding of President Ahmadinejad’s difficult job in governing without enraging the “Bull” Conners of Iran.

Satire? Not hardly. Nervous laughter perhaps. More accurately a clumsy attempt to further humiliate President Ahmadinejad. And certainly a failure to critically examine his way of presenting the Iranian case so that we can further understand and communicate with Iran on important issues.

Executing murderers, as we do in the US, is not equivalent to executing homosexuals or rape victims, as they do in Iran.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:42 PM on 09/30/2007

Oh God, it was bound to happen. The execution of convicted murderers being compared with a straight face to folks in Iran being executed for being gay or insufficiently devoted to Allah. I'll let you know when I stop laughing. 35 years behind? Too stupid to deserve a respone.

For some people there is no difference.
If only the people in Iran could poll
their citizens,I'm sure that Ahmadinejad's
ratings would be on par with your own
president's.
The poorer people there are still
waiting for the changes he promised
them.
Politicians are the same all over.
I just watched it on Youtube and
yes,I did laugh.
When you consider that they burn
effigies of some of your presidents
and scream "Death to America" in
their streets,then this was nothing.
