Sorry, that statement's dead wrong, as anyone who's spent time in the S. Arizona Sonoran desert knows full well. The migrant trails are trashed. As to wildlife migrations, there are virtually no cross-border land migration routes of any significance. Heavily trafficked Mexico Highway 1, a 4-lane, takes care of that, as does rampant poaching.

Border crossing isn't dangerous unless you're stupid. Many routes are less than 10 miles, and often they're dead flat. The highest season for apprehensions is winter, when Sonoran temperatures hover around 60F during daytime.
