Washington Times:

Congress again has extended funding for a core abstinence-education program, sparking protests from sex-education advocates who want Democrats to pull the plug on such programs.

"Their actions defy logic and common sense," said James Wagoner, president of Advocates for Youth.

First, Congress funds what Mr. Wagoner called unproven abstinence programs. Then it commissions a study that shows they don't work, but lawmakers ignore those results and continue to fund the programs.

"Teens deserve better policies. We all deserve better leaders," said Mr. Wagoner, whose organization stresses rights, respect and responsibility in sex education.

Republicons insist on slavishly following ideas and "plans" that have already been proven not to work.

They are two year olds who believe they can will things to go their way. Gawd, how I despise them!

"Republicons insist on slavishly following ideas and "plans" that have already been proven not to work."

And what plans would those be? Not socialism and communism because those are democrat plans.

A group of neocon, white, rich men who half consist of gays, and the other half perverts, throw in a couple of regular straight guys and they are going to pass legislation on sexual matters. Kind of like some Priest's telling the congregation 'don't do what we do, just do what we say". Ha, what a farce!

Oh great, more money wasted on programs that don't work.

Although not perfect, the plan does work. You just can't admit it.

Welcome to the one party system where it doesn't really matter who is in power. It may be too late for 2008 third (really second, the way the parties act today)party, but if they start now with fundraising, laying out positions and recruiting unhappy voters, maybe they can get us out of Iraq (maybe Iran) and start doing the will of the people.
Many are very unhappy with the choices. Maybe, we need to abstain from electing them any more.

Isn't it such a joke that such recommendations come from a political party run by homos, fags, pedophiles, autists, mentally challenged, a morron in the White House and Darth Vader on top of it (who's daughter is a fucking lesbo and his wife a anonimous prostitute)!

Why are they holding up their hands in the cartoon? Are they saying hand jobs are the best?

Or maybe "Talk to the hand". And why do they look like they're out of the 50's?

I attended Catholic school from Kindergarten to 10th grade. Then I finally talked my parents into letting me go to coed public school. And had my first real sex ed class at 16, that covered what the diseases were, how you got them, and how you prevented them, as well as how to use condoms. All I got in Catholic girl's high school was a screening of a hideous movie called "Silent Scream" that almost made me throw up. I knew more girls having sex in Catholic school than I ever did at the public school where they were properly educated. Abstinence only programs do nothing but make teenagers with no information about sex more curious to try it. Because someone in authority is saying they can't. Plain and simple. And it's pure BS ising our taxes to pay for it.

someone needs to study the percentage of unwanted teenage pregnancies in states that really push this nonsense versus educated states. OH WAIT. someone already did! good thing the people who asked for and paid for that study promptly threw it in the toilet. you'd think these people would be more concerned about their children getting pregnant at 14 than having sex at 14, but that would be applying logic to the situation, and that would be a mistake. as usual, with every other problem our society faces, education is the answer. it's too bad you need to be educated in order to see the benefits of education.

Since fiscal year 1998, the Title V, Section 510 program has allocated $50 million annually in federal funding for programs that teach abstinence form sexual activity outside of marriage as the expected standard for school-age children. A new impact report from Mathematica’s congressionally mandated multi-year evaluation of four abstinence education programs finds that the programs had no effect on the sexual abstinence of youth. But it also finds that youth in these programs were no more likely to have unprotected sex, a concern that has been raised by some critics of these programs.

So in the same vein, because
children/teens are not supposed to have sex we should not offer sex ed that discusses other choices than abstinence, we should not be teaching them anthing about tobacco, drugs, and alchohol abuse. Because they are not supposed to be doing any of these things. Yeah, when my 4 kids were teens they never did anything they weren't supposed to. WTF!

What a waste of money. It doesn't work. Aren't we throwing enough money away on stupid things already? I wish we had someone in Congress who would fight for the people.

Look, you have to run to the middle to get elected (like Bush did). Did ANYONE doubt that he would then be a liar and govern from the nut fringe right? Anyone? Bueller?

Two can play that game, and we'll be on the good side of this in 390 days.

What voo-doo social policy is this? What mentality submits to the ludicrous notion that HIV/STD/unwanted pregnancies are bad, but birth control is WORSE??!

It is time to clean house in BOTH parties!!

Nice to see the Democrats can get something done. Wait until you see what they do with the corporate tax cuts and the Iran war funding. Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy being a Democrat, doesn't it?

We could call the extension of the program 'Mission Libido Surge'.
