Majority Opposes Bush's $190 Billion War Funding Request

Most Americans oppose fully funding President Bush's $190 billion request for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and a sizeable majority supports an expansion of a children's health insurance bill the president has promised to veto, putting Bush and many congressional Republicans on the wrong side of public opinion on upcoming foreign and domestic policy battles.

The new Washington Post-ABC News poll also shows deep dissatisfaction with the president and Congress. Bush's approval rating stands at 33 percent, equal to his career low in Post-ABC polls. Congressional aproval is even lower: Just 29 percent approve of the job the Congress is doing. That is Congress's lowest approval rating in this poll since November 1995, when Republicans controlled both the House and Senate, and represents a 14-point drop since Democrats took control last January.

Senate approves $150B in war funding By ANNE FLAHERTY, Associated Press Writer
2 hours, 32 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - Thwarted in efforts to bring troops home from Iraq, Senate Democrats on Monday helped pass a defense policy bill authorizing another $150 billion for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Shame on Dems for not fighting for what is right.

You're right, I'm sick of them. Now I send money to Russ Feingold or MoveOn.org.

Feingold is having a pregame party next Sunday...wanna come?

It's up to the Democrats to develop some courage and not to give Bush all the money he wants for the war. If the Senate wants to filibuster a limited defense spending bill, let them. Somebody has to force the issue. Support the troops by bringing them home. Let the reservists and national guardsmen go back to their civilian jobs.

And s-h-o-p-p-i-n-g!

Poor thing doesn't have time for that accountability thing.

Why should she worry her pretty little mind with the mess in Iraq?

She wants to be the next Fred Thompson only in a seasonal pantsuit: All hype and Bs, D.O.A., DUD.

How many Democrats were promised a slice from the oil strife?

Would one of them be none other than Ms. IMPEACHMENT'S OFF THE TABLE Nancy PELOSI?

You can see the frustration toward Ms. Pelosi in Mr. Reid's face whenever they hold a joint conference.

Ann Coulter is number 2 on the list of conservative blogger's "favorite people on the Right".
Rush Limbaugh is number 1.
Do you really have to know anything more about "the conservative movement" after looking at those rankings?
That's the brain trust. Two talk show hacks.

George W Bush and Condaleeza Rice, respectively, were numbers 1 and 2 on the conservative bloggers list of "Favorite People on the Right" in 2005.

Currently bumped by Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh.

Rush Limbaugh now trounces the President of the United States, on the Right.

Donald Rumsfeld has dropped completely out of the top 20, since 2005.

That's the one that's BAFFLING :)

"Ann Coulter on . . .

. . . Hillary Clinton: Hillary wants to be the first woman president, which would also make her the first woman in a Clinton administration to sit behind the desk in the Oval Office instead of under it. According to polls, a majority of Americans don’t believe the country is ready for a woman president. But the good news is the polls also show that most Americans don’t view Hillary as a woman. Hillary’s second-biggest accomplishment is having been the First Lady. Her first-biggest accomplishment is not realizing that there was a second, third, fourth, and fifth lady.

. . . Islam: Inasmuch as liberals are demanding that Americans ritualistically proclaim, “Islam is a religion of peace,” Muslims might do their part by not killing people all the time.

. . . enraging liberals: About twice a year for nearly a decade, I have upset the little darlings with some public statement, and yet they manage to summon fresh outrage for each new offense. Each time they think I can’t “sink any lower”—I proceed to do so! And by the way, if they’re going to keep using the tired formulation “This time, she’s gone too far!”—can I get an admission that the last sixteen times were, therefore, not “too far”?

. . . Teddy Kennedy: Apparently fat, drunk, and stupid is a way to go through life.

. . . her dream: If a genie offered me only one wish in this life, it would be to have a TV show where I’d get to interview liberal celebrities while they are strapped to lie detector machines. I would ask them questions like, “Do you believe in a Supreme Being?” and “Do you love your country?”

. . . taxes: Taxes are like abortion, and not just because both are grotesque procedures supported by Democrats. You’re for them or against them."

PS: Clinton was a great president, and if he could run again, he'd win in a landslide. When the republics were impeaching him, his poll numbers went up. He can walk anywhere in the world and be greeted with people waving American flags.

He's been doing a heroic job of trying to help Africans fight AIDS, and his global initiative has many outstanding members, zillionaires, who join him in attempting to alleviate some of the world's worst health problems.

He left this country with a surplus...that the simian deciderer ate and then shit on the country.

The only way to get out of Iraq is for Dubya to give the order. If he gave it tonight we'd be out by the end of his term. But he won't. He'd sit back and watch the train wreck. Dems can try to pressure him, knowing it will be a Republican debacle in 08. But Dubya don't give a damn about the Republican Party either. He's a majority of one, which is another way of saying a sociopath.

Well, it seems Bush can’t play the patriotism car anymore, but I am surprised by this poll result regarding funding. Problem is, the Democratic Party does not have the votes and the American public needs to learn about how the legislature works on this one. If the democrats had enough colleagues to vote for withdrawal we would have been well on our way out of Iraq by now. Yeah, people are fed up, but to get any satisfaction you gotta vote out the remaining roadblock Republicans. If I may digress, Putin’s nuclear agreement with Tehran may be another reason that this administration is downplaying Iran’s nuclear energy program and trumping up the proxy war in Iraq angle, that Iran supplies weapons, training and money that are used to kill our soldiers. Ominous signs are that the rhetoric has heated up in this direction, operational planning has taken place, our military is in position, diplomatic discussion is not seriously being pursued and, despite what one disingenuous “poster” here believes, this administration realizes that Iraq is a lost cause and is looking to salvage its legacy by attacking its neighbor.

Truth is Dubya is holding the troops hostage. They will likely suffer if Dems really push against Dubya. There are some Dems who will risk it anyway, but most of them won't. Dubya don't give a tinkers' damn about any troop below the rank of General and that gives him a big advantage.

The Dems are afraid. If they don't fund the war and there's a military disaster - they'll take the rap for it. T. Blossom and R. Limpbaugh are salivating at the thought. I've never thought we'd be out of Iraq by the end of Dubyas' term. And probably a year or so after he leaves.

Right. Andthey will too.

Again, Republicans simply do not hold their own accountable but will go so far as to abuse the system to punish Democrats, (impeachment, the moveon.org ridiculousness, etc.).

Democrats DO hold Democrats accountable.

So Bush HAS created a disaster ,and he did so by lying, exploiting 9/11 (not to mention his criminal negligence leading up to 9/11), just a huge goddamn mess, yet no one is holding him the last bit accountable. Indeed, Republicans are trying to pin it on Democrats.

And US soldiers are caught in the middle.

I will confess I am totally stymied. Usually a person or group persists in loathed, hated and/or ineffectual positions because such humiliating displays of bottom-ness gets them something they REALLY WANT.

Now, please help me.

What the &*(^* would possibly lure Dems or Repugs to cater to a lameduck President who is despised by the entire electorate and the REST OF THE WORLD. What would inspire Dems or Repugs to flaunt the will of their own base - as the public's approval of the entire government reaches laughable lows.

Are they mind-controlled by an alien race? (this is my 2nd choice, BTW)
Are their most valued possessions being held hostage in a toxic landfill? ( Are they ALL under a death threat - from the mob, the CIA, Eric Prince's Blackwaterists, various corporate heads or the Illuminati?
Or perhaps they are just examples of the pure Reptilian bloodlines from Zeta Reticuli doing what they always do?
Have they been promised safe passage to an alternate universe when Global Warming debacle is fully unleashed? (Variation for theocrats: ....when the End Times come.)

Iz a puzzlment....n'est pas.

Will we ever find out...or will Earth be booted from the Milky Way Galaxy for conduct unbecoming a sentient being.

CYA is the main reason most politicians do anything these days. McCain is a Republican exception in this area with his support of illegal immigrant ammnesty, and campaign finance reform, but those two positions got him into a distant third in the presidential race. Ron Paul isn't much of a panderer either, but he has his own quirks.
If politicians weren't panderers we would only have deficit spending in times of national crisis (or possibly during recessions), Social Security and Medicare would be based on sound demographic analysis, and "earmarks" wouldn't exist.
Of course, we have only ourselves to blame. We continue to put them in office. Most of us vote for "our" guy because he may promise us free stuff, or contracts, or whatever, that are in our short term economic interest. And as government gets bigger, the economic interests that can benefit from government decisions (be they unions, or corporations) grows.

Perhaps they looked into the eyes of Putin and were hypnotized by his powerfully gripping stare:

GEORGE BUSH: "I looked the man in the eye. I found him to be very straightforward and trustworthy. We had a very good dialogue. I was able to get a sense of his soul; a man deeply committed to his country and the best interests of his country. And I appreciated so very much the frank dialogue.

There was no kind of diplomatic chit-chat, trying to throw each other off balance. There was a straightforward dialogue. And that's the beginning of a very constructive relationship. I wouldn't have invited him to my ranch if I didn't trust him. (Laughter.)"

Now Putin is on his way to Tehran to sign a deal to deliver nuclear material to fuel Iran's power plants.

Gee. What do we do now? Bomb Russia?
