Majority Opposes Bush's $190 Billion War Funding Request

Most Americans oppose fully funding President Bush's $190 billion request for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and a sizeable majority supports an expansion of a children's health insurance bill the president has promised to veto, putting Bush and many congressional Republicans on the wrong side of public opinion on upcoming foreign and domestic policy battles.

The new Washington Post-ABC News poll also shows deep dissatisfaction with the president and Congress. Bush's approval rating stands at 33 percent, equal to his career low in Post-ABC polls. Congressional aproval is even lower: Just 29 percent approve of the job the Congress is doing. That is Congress's lowest approval rating in this poll since November 1995, when Republicans controlled both the House and Senate, and represents a 14-point drop since Democrats took control last January.

Looks like it's Bush against everyone - even Russia. Could he be any dumber?

"TEHRAN (IRNA) -- Head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization (IAEO) Reza Aghazadeh said on Thursday that he predicts a document will be signed on completion of Bushehr nuclear plant ahead of President Putin's visit to Tehran.

Aghazadeh told reporters upon his arrival from Vienna that Russian President Vladimir Putin is to pay a visit to Tehran to take part in the Caspian Sea Summit mid October.

He said that currently the Iranian and Russian experts are studying the completion of Bushehr power plant and delivery of fuel by Russia."

Your link didn't work but here's more flies in Bush's ointment....Iran is refining Iraq's oil because either we have bombed the hell out of their refineries or insurgents have. What fun.

Now - what was that danged war about?

"That the media are no longer much interested in Iraq is a sure sign things are going well there. Instead, they're talking about the presidential campaign, or Burma, or global warming, or . . . whatever.

Why? Simply put, the news from Iraq has been quite positive, as Petraeus related in his report to Congress. Consider:

• On Monday came news that U.S. military deaths in Iraq fell to 64 in September, the fourth straight drop since peaking at 121 in May and driving the toll to a 14-month low.

• Civilian deaths also have plunged, dropping by more than half from August to 884. Remember just six months ago all the talk of an Iraqi "civil war"? That seems to be fading.

• The just-ended holy month of Ramadan in Iraq was accompanied by a 40% drop in violence, even though al-Qaida had vowed to step up attacks.

• Speaking of al-Qaida, the terrorist group appears to be on the run, and possibly on the verge of collapse — despite making Iraq the center of its war for global hegemony and a new world order based on precepts of fundamentalist Islam.

• Military officials say U.S. troops have killed Abu Usama al-Tunisi, a Tunisian senior leader of al-Qaida in Iraq who was responsible for bringing foreign fighters into the country. Not surprisingly, the pace of foreign fighters entering Iraq has been more than halved from the average of 60 to 80 a month.

• Last month, 1,200 Iraqis waited patiently in line in Iraq's searing heat to sign up to fight al-Qaida. They will join an estimated 30,000 volunteers in the past six months — a clear sign the tide has turned in the battle for average Iraqis' hearts and minds.

• Finally, and lest you think it's all death and destruction, there's this: Five million Iraqi children returned to school last week, largely without incident, following their summer vacations."

Please provide links or sources.

Otherwise, just admit that good news for America is anathema to Democrats.

Here is a fun idea. Freeze government spending to current expected receipts. Let Congress determine priorities that lie within current means.

Lets see how fast the Democratic leaders Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi can run to the White House with that 190 BILLION US DOLLARS on a silver platter.

At the same time I bet they will knock down and jump over most of the republikkkans in thier effort.

it's a joke. With the world in such a state and Bush such a baffon, the media, such as Hardball, has nothing better to do than spend time analyzing Hillary's laugh. Just what could that laugh mean????
Why do they hate us, leads me to hate us even more. You have a media that is way to bored to cover the petty. Going after Bush and the Congress for allowing this war of lies to continue. Mindless of all the chaos that has been created, how and why Hillary laughs is the important issue in their eyes. Sad and pathetic.

The Dems continue to fund this war because they believe if they don't, they won't get re-lected. That's exactly the type thinking they used when voting YES on the Iraq War Resolution.

What they're doing again is putting their political futures ahead of the lives of American soldiers. That, to me, is every bit as repulsive as anything the Repubs are doing.

Every soldier that dies, is dying for political purposes, and nothing else. And both parties are equally as responsible.

Both parties, with a few individual exceptions, make my skin crawl.

Bush has nothing to lose and nothing has ever been done about the obvious. The war was based on lies, billions spent on an illegal war, torture, katrina, habeas corpus, terri is she dead yet schiavo, rendition, osama at the local club med, you name it... Congress continues to eat the bbq right out of his hand. Personal sex life? Impeachment. Almost 4,000 US soldiers dead for a lie... priceless.

The problem for the Democrats is that they have a bully for a president and an independent constituency that punishes them if they don't hear them.

The gift for Republicans is that they have a constituency that never holds them accountable or answerable.

You know, let me give it to you straight. For what the boy is spending on this war he could pay all the illegals to go home, give us universal health care, and fill up the Social Security coffers - or even just divi that money up amongst us and makes us all grateful to him and his party. But no, the boy opted for a quagmire, an loser in the Middle East, a lost cause, a boondoggle. Has anyone thought of just sitting the boy and overseer Dick Cheney and just asking them what exactly in hell are they up to? Maybe they just need a good talking to? A little detention?

You can choose not to vote, or to vote third party. It baffles me why people believe you need to vote Dem or Repub. However, it doesn't baffle those running as a Dem or Repub. They know most Americans have a "us against them" mentality, and will vote for their team.

Everytime.

Most Americans oppose George Bush, his administration, and his enablers in Congress and the appointments he made to run the Executive Branch Agencies. This article is not news.

News would be that the plan for eternal war is actually being challenged; in Congress, on the streets, and in the homes and workplaces of this once great nation. You and I need to be told that people are organizing against the evil and corrupt elite ruining this country, and that there is broad support for such organizations. Instead we are being told that it's the same old, same old crap. Everyone complaining and no one doing anything.

Move On did something. Many resigned Generals did something. Daily Kos does something. Huffpo does something. Many people are doing something. We are hopeful it is not too late. Do something with us.

Then the law is an ass, and the people must wrest control from those that willfully refuse to prosecute and obey the law.

We can be martyrs and statistics, or we can make the enemies of democracy... martyrs and statistics.

It is time to choose.

INTRODUCTION TO REPUBLICAN ECONOMICS:

Spending $500 Billion of US Tax dollars to rebuild and provide services to the people of Iraq is "sound economic policy". Doing the same for the people of the USA would be "socialism".

Aloha.

That's almost right humu.

But they aren't exactly spending that money on rebuilding and providing services to the Iraqi people.

They still are without electricity the majority of the day, maybe a couple of hours if they're lucky and water is scarce. Not to mention there is an outbreak of cholrea.

If the money was being spent to do those things I don't think they would be leaving their country in droves.

Be very afraid folks. Our Constitution is on life support and the Dems seem uninterested in saving it. If there is war vs. Iran, you can kiss '08 elections good-bye.
