Majority Opposes Bush's $190 Billion War Funding Request

Most Americans oppose fully funding President Bush's $190 billion request for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and a sizeable majority supports an expansion of a children's health insurance bill the president has promised to veto, putting Bush and many congressional Republicans on the wrong side of public opinion on upcoming foreign and domestic policy battles.

The new Washington Post-ABC News poll also shows deep dissatisfaction with the president and Congress. Bush's approval rating stands at 33 percent, equal to his career low in Post-ABC polls. Congressional aproval is even lower: Just 29 percent approve of the job the Congress is doing. That is Congress's lowest approval rating in this poll since November 1995, when Republicans controlled both the House and Senate, and represents a 14-point drop since Democrats took control last January.

If they bring the raft back, College Republican groups can organize a few seminars with noted speakers, ie:

Rush Limbaugh: Anal cysts: better than a bullet in your ass;

Dick Cheney: The Friendly Defermment: How to Navigate Your Way to Deferment after Deferment after deferment...;

George W. Bush: Call Daddy (for the very privilege only);

Karl Rove: How to Bash Those Who Go while Avoiding it Yourself.

The Senate passed it today in the Defense bill.

What is the National debt now? Four trillion or more?
All borrowed Money from China and japan that will someday have to be repaid.
Gonna be an impossible undertaking with a bankrupt third world country.

This is the cost of the war so far. Remember this is just the money specifically earmarked for the war. Many other trillions spent in other areas that are not "officially" war costs.

Being concerned about AIPAC is NOT racist. Whether one wants to view it as a race-based advocacy or an advocacy for another nation, AIPAC has inappropriate enfluence in our governance. This is especially true when it comes to the mid-east, which is AIPAC's focus.

before this tragedy began, paul wolfowitz told this nation that the war would pay for itself through oil revenues from the iraqi fields.

we were also told that this war would only cost about $50 billion.

only $50 billion.

we were told it would be over quickly.

today, not only has there not been one dime of money flowing in from the oil revenues, there has been about $9 billion in cash that has simply disappeared.

the largest contractor, halliburton, has moved its corporate headquarters to the money laundering capital of the middle east. it is also a tax free zone, so not only is there no corporate tax being paid on their profits, the obscenely paid executive suite pays not one penny of income tax on their ill gotten gains. not one red cent.

$190 billion dollars would make one helluva good beginning on a national system of health care.

it could help fund badly needed repairs to crumbling infrastructure.

it could help bring manufacturing jobs back to the u.s.

it could improve our educational system.

it could feed all our hungry citizens.

it could provide warm, safe secure housing for those facing another cold winter on our nation's streets.

it could help pay for the health care of those already shattered and broken by this insanity.

it could even fund a way home for every single soldier currently on the ground there, to bring them back to their families before the end of the year.

so much good it could do. so many smiles, so many burdens that could be eased by it.

instead, it will only be used to buy more tears, more bloodshed, more broken hearts.

surely this can't be the best we can do as humans.

perhaps congress should simply be shut down entirely until they begin doing the bidding of their true employers, namely we the people.

At this point, let's forget about morality and only worry about money. This war is rapidly moving from half a trillion to a full trillion.

Even with the extremely weak Bush Repoopicon dollar, that is still a lot of money.

And the talk is that we should be in Iraq for decades to come and perhaps invade other countries.

What would a war with Iran (a much bigger country) cost?

And who wants the trillions of new Treasury bonds that Bush is issuing? The whole world is rapdily moving away from the US dollar.

Repoopicons, you don't have to worry about morality, but you do have to worry about your life's savings.

it is beyond shameful that a discussion involving so many lives must be reduced to money in order to make people sit up and take notice.

unfortunately, if you do actually do the math, you will discover why in the end that the question of morality will have to win the day, because from a purely monetary standpoint, the battle is lost.

iraq's estimated proven reserves:

approximately 112-200+ billion barrels of high grade crude oil

today's price per barrel: about $80 on the NYMEX

iraq's estimated proven natural gas reserves:

approximately 110 trillion cubic feet

spot market for november delivery price: $7.00 per MMBtu

the amounts of money in the long run are beyond staggering that are at stake.

looked at purely in terms of money long term, there is no logical reason not to do everything inhumanly possible to make sure we take the whole ball of wax for ourselves.

and this is just the money at stake in iraq.

reduce it slightly, and you will have iran.

but not even all this money and unimaginable wealth could ever bring back even a single one of the lives lost this war.

how much is the smile of a child, a husband, a wife, a son, a daughter, a mother, a father worth?

what price is their love?

how many dollars would it take to erase the misery of their loss in the lives of their loved ones left behind?

and remember, when talking this purely in terms of money, not even every last red cent will ever, ever be able to buy back the spark of life once it is lost.

no, my friend, this must be about much more than money in the end.

We know what it would put a stop to Iraq fraud. And it is in the hands of Dems to do it. It is to cut off funding but not allowing a vote on any bill containing a budget item related to the Iraq fraud.

Dems don’t want to do it because it might backfire, and public opinion might turn against them in 2008.

Of course, it is important that Dems win in 2008, and start reversing the harm done to our country, and not just that related to the Iraq fraud.

Dems strategy seems to be to do all they can short of cutting off the funding.

The strategy has merit, however, it would most certainly result in more loss of life to our soldiers and to Iraqis.

It is not an easy decision.

What Dems might be missing is that there would also be a price to pay in November 2008 for not bringing Iraq fraud to a halt.

Meanwhile.....

Pentagon Issues Blackwater New $92 Million Contract
Earlier this month, Blackwater USA was involved in the fatal shooting of 11 Iraqi civilians. While the Iraqi government swiftly condemned the contractor, the Bush administration has continued to back Blackwater’s story that it was “defensive fire.”

Last Thursday, Gen. Peter Pace told reporters, “Blackwater has been a contractor in the past with the department and could certainly be in the future.” The next day, that future was already here. The Pentagon had issued a new list of contracts, including one worth $92 million to Presidential Airways, the “aviation unit of parent company Blackwater.” From the release:

continued...

This admin. has lost credibilty as far as running a "Christian" nation. This so-called war has been a boom for any and every defense contractor and the corrupt companies that pretend to be "security" and "homeland protectorates". Corruption is just the beginning of this story and war cimes would be well on the table if this admin. were not American.

American exceptionalism has to end before this so-called democracy does.

Of course we oppose another 190 billion dollars b/c we know that only half will go to what it should and the other half gets "lost".

This is OUR money folks. What is the PHUKKKIN' Congress doing ??

DEMS, where are you ?? Quit looking at the GD polls and stand up for principle.

Bush will block SCHIP for kids, but spend another 190 billion for death and theft. Sounds right, if you are a HEATHEN !!!

There would be if there were a DRAFT. It's the main reason why they have not instituted one. This war would be over in a heartbeat.

It's the old, "NOT MY KID", that ends this thing abruptly. Too much money to be stolen and made here. Theft of the treasury.

The first two protest marches in D.C. contained about 500,000 people each time. Many people think that America has become so complacent about Bush's murdering and destructive ways because we have not been asked to sacrifice anything significant like our time, our families, or our jobs to make these wars happen. I believe jobs ARE being lost because the Bush administration does nothing to help create them.

There are actually a few people who have trouble separating Osama bin laden from Iraq and Iran. Now - I know you can't be THAT stupid. There are still others who simply think all Muslims are in the Middle East and they should die...even though the largest population of Muslims is in South East Asia. Trouble is, those people have no clue where that area of the world is on a map. Once again - I know you can't be THAT stupid.

What public are you hanging around with? EVERYONE I KNOW is going on a BUYERS STRIKE. We will not purchase anything other than essential foodstuffs for the next two months.
My wife and I have cancelled our cable teevee, our local newspaper (as it's just a Repub organ) subscription, and have set up a community carpooling service for those who need to go grocery shopping.
It may not be much, but if you get 50,000,000 "folks" doing the same thing, it WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
Look, every journey starts with a single step, but if you don't put that first foot forward, all you end up doing is falling flat on your face. Get it? Good.

So, tell me America, why do you want to stop the war on terror? Do you people hate your childrens that much?

Stay the course. Forever and ever. 9-11. Many corners turned. Many more corners to turn. The Dems and Repubs will give Mr. Bush his money because they know the Iraqi people hate us for our freedom. They hate purple fingers, and they'd like to see Christ on a Crutch.

And that is the myth the administration keeps feeding you, that Iraq is part and parcel with the war on terror. That if we 'lose' then the terrorists will take over the world. And what if we 'win'? Do the terrorists quit? Osama decides to become a sheep farmer?

The vietnam war was drug on for years, in fact was justified at the start, because of the 'domino theory'...that if Vietnam fell it would be followed by country after country until the US would stand alone in the world.

But Vietnam did become communist and guess what? There were no dominoes.

So yes there is a major ideaological struggle between western values and islamic fundamentalism, just as there was a global struggle between communism and captialism. And we won eventually for reasons entirely unrelated to the Vietnam war. Think of that before you write another rant about how we are all going to be killed by evildoers if we don't blow another two hundred billion dollars in Iraq.

If we lose the global war on terror, all American children aka childrens will be killed by evildoers.

First of all, terror is a TACTIC, just like hi-altitude bombing. We might as well have a war against IED's.

Second, we're creating more individuals who hate America with every moment we continue to occupy Iraq.

Third, the 9-11 hijackers were predominantly Saudi.

You are so full of nonsense it's unbelievable.
