A New York woman is so angry at Apple Inc. for lopping $200 off the price of the iPhone that she's filed a lawsuit seeking $1 million in damages.

Dongmei Li of Queens, N.Y., claimed the company violated price discrimination laws when it slashed the price of the 8-gigabyte iPhone by a third, from $599 to $399, within two months of the gadget's June debut.

Apple lowered the iPhone's price on Sept. 5 and also said it would stop selling the $499 4-gigabyte model. Hundreds of early customers who paid full price didn't expect a reduction so soon and complained.

She claims discrimination. Against whom, stupid people? Companies drop prices every day. Unless stated in a contract, they are not obligated to give you anything. If the price had gone up would this dingbat be willing to pay more? Can I sue BP because gas went down two cents last week?

Just based on the number of comments against this woman here in these postings, she better hope her case never goes before a jury. That jury may put her behind bars and demand she pay Apple a couple of million for filing a frivilous lawsuit with intent to damage Apple's reputation.

She really needs a stint in a mental hospital for a good long time.

The jury in a civil suit cannot send anyone to jail. Don't you remember the civil suit the Goldman's filed and won against OJ? OJ lost but never went to jail.

The jury can only award damages if Apple files a counter suit. Then Apple must prove it was damaged and that the lawsuit was filed with malicious intent(that's usually what it takes). But she feels like she was screwed so she has a right to file a lawsuit. The judge will decide whether the suit has merit and will allow the case to go on or throw it out. If the lawsuit is not summarily thrown out, then there is cause for the lawsuit and Apple will probably promise to give her a free iPod and settle it out of court.

What is this? Is everyone on Huffpo like 16 years old or what?

I was given an iPOD as a gift a couple of month back and works fine, but can anyone tell me what the iPODS advantage is over the ZUNE or other mp3 devices or what their advantage is over iPOD?

I think there is more unfairness in not allowing consumers to choose their own wireless carrier for the Iphone. The recent software upgrade by Apple hurts phones that have had their carrier changed by software available on the internets.

Duh... if you don't like the terms of the license agreement then don't buy the silly product. How stupid can people really be? This business about "consumer me, me, me" is ridiculous anymore and totally out of hand.

News flash: All electronics drop rapidly in price after their initial introduction. MP3 players, cell phones, cameras, Playstations, peripheral hard drives.

Yeah, it's cynical and greedy, but there's a simple solution:

Don't be such a stupid ad-driven sheep that you rush out to pre-purchase the latest/greatest tech toy. Duh.

While the price did drop $200 and quickly, I believe that Apple did offer $100 credit that could be used for music or other Apple products.

My first PC cost $5,000 and and was great for running Multiplan. My last PC cost $750 and does everything I need (at home).

Not all. Only the products that don't sell as expected. It's obvious that the sales were disappointing. After all the hype, iPhones were available in large quantities at the Apple store the 2 days after the release. Unlike the Wii, Playstation2, and even the xBox360.

The real anger her is the woman is more pissed because she couldn't resist the iPhone and was willing to pay any price for it. The moment that price went down she realized what an idiot she was!

BTW, I stood in line for four hours along with five of my employees and we each bought an iPhone at $650 each. We thank Apple for the $100 store credit because we bought the new flat wireless keyboards! Most excellent!

The one million dollar law suit is outrageous but I sympathize with her frustrations regarding dramatic price drops that reflect greed when introducing new products.

This should be a message to manufacturers to amortize prices more equitably.

What it should be to every idiot out there, including you, is that you shouldn't stand in line and pay the higher price if you're not willing to accept the fact that the price will drop in 60 days.

You're own greed "to have" "to be the first" is to blame, certainly not Apple. You have to grant them this: they saw you coming! :-)

I didn't stand in line, I didn't pay the higher price, I am not the type "to be the first" or to "have to have this or that". I don't own an iPhone, iPod or any Apple product.

I have been aware of the cost of first or introductory models since the 80s. The last time I was gouged was by Compaq years ago involving a computer that was necessary because of its specifications for a particular project. That was the last Compaq product I bought.

Be careful what conclusions you jump to and who you call an idiot. You run the risk of appearing as one yourself.

Oh wait a minute, so in some way she is implying that anytime a price drops on anything, the consumer has the right to take the company to court. With that logic, I could be a millionaire by now. All the clothes, hardware, software, electronic stuff that I have ever bought have dropped their prices 10 fold by now, therefore its my right to take those companies to court to recoup my loses
This is ridicules. Who told her to stand in line for hours and buy the phone at that price? That"s because she wanted to show off to here friends, that she could afford a ridiculously overpriced phone. She shouldn"t get a dime. In fact, if I were the owner of Apple, I would counter sue her for frivolous lawsuit. This is so stupid. It shouldn"t even be in the news.

I hope she wins. Gives me precedent for my $50 gajillion lawsuit against K-Mart for their incessant price cuts. Sometimes they cut prices before I even leave the store. How unfair is that?

By her reasoning..........how much money can we make off the car companies when we buy a new car and drive it off the lot?

Everyone knows that prices drop.....except for this idiot LMAO

I must have missed the part in her lawsuit where Apple dragged her into the store and made her buy an iPhone. It is a well-known truth that new technology costs more and then the price goes down. The minute she walked away from the store, the price of her iPhone plummeted.

Apple isn't responsible for how much she can resell the phone for.

And ... $1 million dollars for a $200 price difference. Greedy greedy greedy.

So the story isn't that a company with a popular product that sells an enormous number of units and hears the anger of those who can't afford it and responds by lowering the price (because they've sold enough volume to do so) and even gives a refund to first adopters ... it's that some venal sh*t-for-brains New York Yuppie (Gee what a surprise) decides to sue them because they devalued her resale value.

Well I thought all that was pretty ridiculous till I read the morons who think it was all a deliberate publicity stunt by Apple.

We are doomed.

"a popular product that sells an enormous number of units"

The true facts are that they did not sell as many as they wanted to and the popularity of the iPhone was not what they expected. Thus the $200 reduction in price so soon after it's introduction into the market.

You can say what you want about this woman, but if her intention was to hurt Apple then she has accomplished her goal. Because we are talking about how Apple screwed their most avid followers.

Actually - most of us are talking about how dumb the woman is for bringing such a pointless lawsuit and not about how Apple may or may not have screwed anybody.

Do you have any facts to back up your statements, particularly the number of iPhones sold?
