Later in the day, Thompson addressed a sleepy crowd over lunch at Tremont on Main in Marshalltown, IA. The crowd of about 60 people seemed nonplused by the candidate's speech, treating it much like a lecture with little applause or laughter. Thompson was even forced to finish his speech by saying, "First of all can I have a round of applause," admitting that he had to "drag" it out of them. On the street after the lunch, two independent voters, Kathy Larson and Mary Brooks, said that they were pretty disappointed by what they heard.

"I have a couple friends who urged me to come to hear him because she said he crosses party lines," Larson said. "So I, in good faith, came. But I didn't hear specifics...no substance, you know, feel good. Well I don't feel good."

"He was so vague," Brooks added.

"And folksy and feel good, but that doesn't cut it," Larson said. "We really wanted to know about foreign policy, and I don't think he said much about it at all."

It's as if they put this candidacy together in Hollywood, but as usual they did not want to pay for a script writer. Perhaps he should just do a powerpoint presentation instead of an actual speech. He could run credits there at the start..... as the would-be President of the United States.... Fred Thompson. Casting by Lynn Stalmaster....

I'm really tired of the "Southerners are dumb" thing. The fact is, that Reagan and George Bush took a heck of a lot of Northern votes. How dumb is that?? Let us be kind to one another and not start the Civil War all over again. There are many brilliant Southerners, i.e., Duke University, Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, etc.

...and he's butt ugly to boot.

I just think the whole Fred Thompson thing makes the Republicans look really desperate.

The M.f. puts you to sleep. I'll be damned. Think of how may people have been looking for a method of sleep for years. There is something to be said for that though; better than 24 hours of fear. This is the same presidential candidate that said Iraq had WMD before they went in. Dam.

It seems without a script, Thompson is just an empty suit with no substance. He should just give up and stay at home with his young wife.
Some Americans are real idiots. They think that an actor can be a good President. They cannot seem to be able to judge a candidate, his intellect, and capabilities. That is why we are stuck with an incompetent, arrogant, frat boy, who has made the biggest mess in US history.

But he'll make more on the speaking circuit after this. Just wait and see. The same with Gingrich, Guilani and everyother wing nut running. This is just good business.

As Grocho said "He may look like an idiot and talk like an idiot but don"t let that fool you. He really is an idiot"

Ha ha! Are you talking about the Republicans or just Fred Thompson?

Some people thought he was a somewhat slow hill-billy.

Then he opened his mouth and dispelled all doubt.

We all knew Reagan wasn't presidential. After he ruined the economy and our trade policies with the 'trickle down' bullshit, our prescient stance was validated.

Now, here comes bubba gump with all the gee whillikers, gosh darns and all the unintelligible southern drawl one person could possibly stomach.

One can only hope America is smarter than to vote for this cretin.

On the other hand, the religious wrong don't like him at all. Might be a great thing if the republiconned fall for this schtick one more time.

Is it possible that we finally have discovered a candidate so lame that even the lamest American voter perceives it clearly? That's a victory in my book. We now have our bench mark. We know there is a definable limit to how low we will go in electing presidents. We simply won't be Thompsoned!

Crickets are chirping about your candidacy Fred, can't you hear 'em?

Kudos once again to Huffpost for printing the latest

campaign photo of Old Wrinkled Freddie.

The article bears out the truth shown in the photograph.

From the looks of his campaign, Thompson being

described "lazy" is quite wrong. He is "dead lazy."

The Great White Hope will be heading back to Hollywood

very soon though why anyone would give him a job

in film or television escapes me. Smart producers will

find new talent instead.

He says the same thing to his wife after collapsing from another 4 A.M. 'wakeup quickie'.
